Basil, looked dully about, his eyes always glancing to the windows, to gaze out to that perfect spring day. The urge to simply be outside was hard to resist, it called to him, but he ignored it. Sometimes, the plants grew angry at him for it, they loved his attention. He shook his head, he out of his two sisters had the best control over his powers, rarely did it get out of control unless he wanted it to. Clover being the wild card she was and Aster with her poor temperament it was a given that Basil had to be the level headed one of three, the protector, the one to keep them from harm, or well Clover from harm.

He drew close to the captain's office, dreading the encounter, the captain had grown to despise Basil, he was not easy to intimate nor bully, and his expressionless face had an unease about it. He wanted to see the emotions, the feelings, for though his face was blank, he was a beauty to behold, and the captain would give anything to see the beauty when he grew, scared. So each time he came in contact with Basil the captain would be merciless with taunts, curel as he verbally abused him.

The door was ajar, Basil could see that the captain had company, it was clear from the formal way he could hear him talk it was the king. He stood outside the door knowing he’d only be given lashes to his back if he interrupted them both.

“...the Erthenian empire could only be tricking us, to open up our borders, so their mages, and sorcerers can create havoc.” the captain ranted,

“The empire only wishes to start trade with us, and I sure as hell can’t say no, it’s the empire, they will see my refusal as an insult, and we’ll not win in a conflict against them.”

The captain snorted, “they’ll be no empire soon, they won’t give it to the general.”

“No, but whilst they have power, we need to be on their goodside.”

“Goodside,” the captain mocked, “sire, we should use the fact there are no heirs to our advantage, take the empire for ourselves.”

“Against their magic?” the king laughed, “don’t be foolish Vilham, besides they are descended from the goddess herself, it would be going against her if we stole the empire.”

“That's a tale they tell their people to make them seem more special. They are flesh and blood, like you and me, sire. They are nothing but human.”

“Even so, they are powerful humans, the empress is the greatest sorceress there has ever been, prophesied by the great priestess herself, and the emperor,” the king sighed, “he can command, the sky itself, the seas, the trees, plants. He has a bloody giant red wolf for a pet.” Basil could hear the king rising up from his seat, “you know i always value your counsel Vilham, you were always well trusted to my father, but i must accept, it is for kingdom.”

The captain huffed, “the kingdom,” he muttered, “who am i to tell a king what to do, so do it your majesty, i shall support you, but make it clear we want none of those magic fuckers on our land.”

The king laughed jollily, which made Basils skin crawl, “i shall, good day captain,”

The king left not even acknowledging Basil as he walked past. Basil knocked on the office door and walked in. The Captain was well into his fifties, with greying black hair, looked up at Basil with a smirk from his desk.

“I’ve come to collect the housekeepers papers, she said you would have them.” he said in a bored tone,

“I do,”

Basil waited expectedly, but the captain made no move, to get the papers he asked for.

“You know, the other day, I saw this mighty pretty girl. One of the lads told me she was your sister. Aster, I think they said her name was.” Basil's eyes narrowed, the captain's smile widened at the reaction, “they say she’s quite feisty that one, curses like a sailor.” he chuckled. “I like that in girls. Especially when they're not all that willing. She’s got hips too, I'm sure she’d be great in bed, and oh those tits,” he sucked in a breath, “now I know breasts aren’t everything, but I disagree, they make or break a girl. But I have a feeling hers will be just right.” he paused watch as Basils jaw clenched, “but that other sister of yours, i bet with a few flowery words i’d get her straight in bed, moaning and screaming and all.” he licked his lips, “you wouldn’t mind if asked someone to bring them to my chambers, would you.”

Basil felt the room shift, the ground frosting at his feet, the air becoming damp and heavy with a cold.

“Yes, I do, actually.” his voice for a moment became ungodly, threatening with each syllable, extending out with claws at the captain. He took a breath, though it looked as if he were calm as the breeze, his eyes glowed with something dangerous. “I would like those papers now.”

The captain, feeling a new pressure in his shoulders, felt scared for a second, handing the boy the papers wordlessly. He did not know what had happened, and could not begin to describe. After Basil left, he looked down at himself, seeing that he had pissed himself.

Clover sat on Basil's bed, her knees huddled up to her chest. In the corner of her eyes she could spy a little grey mouse, scurry across the floor, it stood on its hind legs gazing up at Clover, it squeaked.

“It’s nothing,” she mumbled to mouse, its words as clear as a chime to her ears. It squeaked again, and Clover chuckled,

“I think you should keep that bread crumb to yourself, but thank you.” The mouse hurried along climbing it’s way to Clover. “So how was your day mr mouse.” it squeaked obsessively, “oh, i’m sorry Herbert, you see i’m only acquainted with kitchen mice.” it twitches its nose which made Clover laugh, “i see so you hall mice and kitchen mice don’t get along.” the mouse nodded. “Would you mind keeping me company today?” the mouse nodded again, quickly climbing in the pocket of her apron. Clover grinned the mouse was the exact right thing to cheer her up. She strided out the door, only half forgetting her woes.

Aster and the rest of the maids were shocked and worried at the dedication that Clover worked with, never caring or doing so much. It was an odd sight, but she was willing to do anything to keep her mind off her soulmate. Herbert the mouse thought this soulmate of hers must have a right idiot for not wanting her, but he kept it to himself, besides, he and about anyone else he knew, knew that no one would be enough for their Princess, for Clover was their ray of sunshine, through and through..

In a world where people are born with marks that are unique to only one other person placed on their left wrists, signifying their fated partner.

Clover can only wish her life was less ordinary, longing for the childish fantasy of elegance and luxury. Orphaned and abandoned for eighteen years, Clover has only her brother Basil and her sister Aster to look after one another, triplets who hide a secret they have been told could have them locked away and killed.

The day they turn eighteen, as all other children who have grown to adulthood in the temple they reside are no longer able to stay in the orphanage. They are sent to work in the palace, exchanging the siblings for a few measly silver coins. But just as the neighboring king is visiting a chance encounter with Clover ripples her seemingly ordinary life to something much more…

hey everyone this my new series, i plan to write three books in total, about the three siblings, each contuining an overarching story.

the first is about the youngest sister, Clover and her soulmate Cyrus.
please let me know in comments how you like the beginning of this story and what you hope to see, i'm up for suggestions of how you want things to plan out, hopefully it will make things more intresting. i'll try uploading each week, and do a total of ten chapters in several parts.
