Ego University [Season 3]

Chapter 11- Past Dreams

Chapter 11- Past Dreams

Feb 11, 2022

A whisper echoed through the walls as I slowly sat up in a bed of an empty bedroom... it was my old room, when I used to live in Heaven. I slowly got off the bed and walked over to the door, opening it and walking out into the short hallway. I made my way into the opened living room and kitchen, looking around at the still and emptiness of the small home before walking out the front door, out onto the dead empty street. Nightal Avenue of Crelston, an abandon city in the Creation Region of Heaven... the very place Michael always dumped me as a kid and the very place I use to live before falling into Hell. Every building was a fully standing skeleton made of stone, rotten wood and rusted metal, the street's footpaths and road made of old stone... this was one of the oldest cities in Heaven and now the most dead. I slowly walked down the street bare foot before turning right onto Arch Street, walking into a shadowed man "Sorry- hey!" the man grabbed my wrist, holding it tightly as his red eyes hissed from it's flaming glow "We have nowhere left to go" he said, voice deep, old and raspy like an old grown man. "It's already set in stone, Gamer" the man told me as I tried yanking my hand out of his grip "You'll meet us, accept us, embrace us-" "Let go of me!" I yelled yet his grip only tightened "You are growing cold, it is now leaking into your veins-" "You're just a shadling! you're dead and fucking crazy!" I told him yet he ignored my words. "Come find us... find me" he begged, blunt nails digging into my arm as I hissed in pain "Please dear Light, shadow your rays and find me"-

(Gamer's Pov)
I jolted awake as Isra shook my shoulder "Gamer, you alright?" she asked, a little worry in her voice "Yeah-" "Liar, you were mumbling in your sleep" I turned my head to the left to look at Death after hearing his voice "I... what- when did we walk to the student lounge?" I asked, looking around the room we were in "Half an hour ago" Leo answered, sitting in the lounge across from the one I fell asleep on. "You drifted off right before opening your Human Studies book" Akire said from far across the room, feet resting on the table as she leaned back into her chair, head buried into a book. "I don't understand the purpose of having a 'Human Studies' book- most of us were humans before" Death complained, putting his text book down "Maybe because some people aren't given the chance of being 'human' before being a celestial" Akire told or more like reminded him "Right" Death rolled his eyes as I looked around the room. "There's only five of us in here?" "Six" Angel answered, walking into the student lounge "Hey, where'd you go?" Death asked as Angel walked over to us "Getting clearance from Ianthe" Angel answered, turning to me as she picked up my bag "Hey- what are you-" "Come on, Erik's waiting for us in the staff parking lot" Angel told me, pulling me up onto my feet. "What? why?" I asked as Angel smirked "You're gonna learn how to fly again".
Twenty Minutes Later
I slowly walked out onto the field, my surroundings seeming as though it were a stadium... Ego University's training course, the very one Ianthe mentioned last year. "What do you think?" Erik asked, walking out behind me along with Angel "It's... big and impressive I guess-" "And the perfect place to practice flying" Angel added, I turned around to face her "You seriously think I can fly?" "You've got a pair of wings, Gamer-" "Wings that only appeared to remind me that I'm not an actual demon" I interrupted. "I'm not gonna fly again- it's not that easy" "You mean it can't be that easy, yet it is... for someone who already knows how to" Angel pointed out, I angrily signed "...fine" I painfully agreed "Great, let's start". After a minute, I walked out into the middle of the field "You really need that much space?" Erik questioned from a far "Wings can be big" Angel told him as I took off my hoodie "Plus... it's been a while" I said as I tossed my hoodie aside. I tried to let my body relax a bit as I closed my eyes, two spots on the top of my head and one on my lower back glowing bit "Gamer, your horns and tail is gonna come out- you need focus only on the wings, nothing else" Angel yelled from where her and Erik stood "Okay!" I answered back, taking a shaky breath... wings, only think about the wings. ..."Michael! Look!" I ran up to the archangel, smile plastered onto my face "Gamer, I thought you were in pain-" Michael stopped himself as he looked at me in disbelief "Your wings, they finally came in..." he bent down to my eye level "My back still hurts, but aren't they cool?" I asked him excitedly. "Yes, they are... they look just like stardust" he told me, small smile on his face "They match you perfectly, my dear Starlight" he smiled... back then, my angel wings were white and seemed to glow in sunlight, and up close it looked like it was made from actual stardust, as if made from light itself... but that's not what they look like now. They are sort of smaller than Angel's wings, and they're a very dark grey, as if now to match my last name. I'm different now as well, I've changed... and my wings represent that change... then I felt it.

The tiniest shift in weight as I opened my eyes, looking over my shoulders to be met with dark grey feathers softer then a fluffy cloud as I felt the smiles of both Angel and Erik "He did it" Erik mumbled in disbelief "Time for step two" Angel announced and immediately, I knew what that meant... step two is getting off the ground. Although pushing through most of the 'steps' of being able to fly again may not be the best idea, so was sitting around and falling asleep every time I attempt and fail to read a simple easy-read textbook. On the car ride here, Erik stated that the training course will be empty the entire day and I only had two free periods and a pe class left for today, meaning I was allowed to practice the rest of the day into the late afternoon.

I flapped my wings a few times, managing to get off the ground a bit yet the feeling quickly became weird. My feet touched the ground after a few seconds, stumbling a bit as I tried to get my balance while in the corner of my eye, I could see Angel running over to me "Careful" she told me "Although we're going fast with this, at least try to take a bit of time with each step" Angel advised. "Keep a calm and steady mind, think of nothing distracting-" "Only think about the task at hand" I interrupted with a guess of how Angel was going to finish that sentence yet... immediately realising what I said was the very words Michael used when I was first learning how to fly. 'Mussel memory' would be good... if you're not me and hadn't been 'grounded' from the sky for about fourteen years... jez, I had a shit life, but that's to be expected from the past. Now is different, I'm a year closer to a new life. Not one in Heaven or Hell, or even the Mid realm... I'm going to be an ego for a human and that's the only goal that matters. Try hard at everything I need to do and I'll get there, one way or another. Angel stepped back a bit as I flapped my wings once again, managing to get about a foot off the ground and also keep my balance "Gamer- you did it! You're flying!" Erik cheered from a far as Angel smiled as if proud of what I've done so far.

(Leo's Pov)
"Okay, tell me if this is right" Death placed down his Human Studies Textbook as he leaned back in my desk chair "The knowledge of your human can vary as it depends on their location, education they're provided and their family and friends... just like how our knowledge of the world is created" Death started "Keep going" I told him "Right... only children are pure believers of magic until about the age eighteen, therefore egos who are experienced in illusions can further the child's imagination". Yeah, at the moment me and Death were spending our free period in mine and Alex's room, going over some of the Human Studies crap... that seems more like an outdated 'handbook' on how to encourage the wrong things that lead to chaotic mental or physical problems for a child... yeah, the two of us had no hope for this stupid book. "That's it" Death angrily sign, throwing the book across the room "Death, seriously? was that really necessary?" I tiredly asked him from my bed yet he just rolled his eyes "The book is useless! 'imagination, dreams and hope'- when I was a kid, I had none of that" Death stated "Never had supportive parents, love never existed in the house- just fucking death" he vented. "Woah wait... is that the reason why your name is 'Death', because of something from your childhood?" I questioned as Death froze up yet glared at me "You're a world war one soldier who died in 1917 whose now an angel with a fear of loud sounds and going deaf, and has an who is a psychopathic murderous demon whose a part of cult that is after my best friend" Death snapped back. "Okay... it was just a question" I mumbled "You can't just expect to keep your past hidden from everybody- someone will eventually find out" I told him "I'm not a story teller nor a sharer" Death said as he looked over at the Human Studies book... we need a change of topic "Alright, let's quiz each other of human life outside of Mid" I suggested.

"Leo, the books are shit-" "Based on our own knowledge beyond the book" I told him, earning somewhat of a smirk from Death "Alright" he agreed "Okay, first question... why do you think children believe in magic?" I asked. "It actually depends on the type of parents or carer they have" Death answered "Whether they want their kid to have hope, dreams and magic or they want their kid to be boring and plain" he added "It's mostly the parent's influence on the kid" ...that only makes me even more concerned about Death's childhood. Although we're finally on 'good' terms, Death's never gonna tell me his past life, not even if he had demonglass to the throat... he'd rather die along with the 'secret' then tell a single soul.
