We were almost ready to go until Asher jumped out of the car. "I forgot something in the store." He said, not looking straight at me. "Um, while you're at it, can you get a treat jar?" I asked, looking at the big glass animal shelter door. Asher didn't reply. He just turned around and walked inside the shelter.
I saw Lia eyeing Asher as he walked toward the treats aisle. She followed him. I saw her tap him on the shoulder and saw a disturbingly flirty look on her face. Asher laughed at whatever joke she made. Not just a little chuckle but an all-out wheeze. I started to feel myself heat up. I felt someone kick the back of my chair. I whizzed around and saw Stephanie trying to get in the driver's seat. "Sit the fuck back down, Stephanie Ariel Scott." (ARIEL- air- eel). I said, eyeing my daughter. The kids shut up quickly.
I saw Daisy pulling out her iPad from her backpack in the rearview mirror. "Who told you to take your iPad with you when you have a new dog right in front of you, Daisy?" I asked, staring at her head. Dylan looked like he was about to cry. I looked back at the big glass door. Lia was all over Asher at this point. He was trying to back up but put minimal effort into it. Asher looked at the car and saw me glaring at him.
He immediately said something to Lia and walked away without a backward glance. He came to the checkout and saw Lia in the cashier area. She was trying to talk to him, but Asher said very little. He came rushing out of the store. He put the stuff in the trunk, opened the back door, and took Bella from her cage. He sent her on my lap and got inside the car. Starting it, he patted Bella's soft white and cream-colored hair.
Asher looked at me in his puppy dog-eyed look. I rolled my eyes playfully, trying to shake off the anger. "What do we name them?" I asked the kids as if trying to make up for my bad attitude before. "I say, Cora and Carter," Daisy said. "I like Cody better, but Cora sounds like an old granny name," Dylan replied, trying to open Cody's cage.
"I was thinking, how about Leo and Luna?" Asher chimed in, looking at me than the kids. "Ooooo Daddy, that's a good match of names," Stephanie said. Dylan and Daisy nodded in agreement. "Sure. I like it," I said, sealing the deal. Luna yipped at her new name. Asher looked delighted. I was suspicious. I didn't know what he was up to, but I would catch up to him, just like I did with Audrey.
Asher and Violet are husband and wife. They live in a nice neighborhood with 3 kids. You could even say they're the perfect couple until Violet finds out Asher is cheating. Violet and her friends decided to take care of the problem . . and it involves blood, lots of it.
