There was a small article about how the exact same thief I was on a case about was being investigated here too and that the magical police were having just as much trouble finding anything out about the thief as I was, but there was also a smaller section below it that talked about how members of the magical police are in the nonmagical police and keep their work as the magical police secret, talking about how they use their place in the not magical police to keep the magical world safe and hidden.
“Magical people in the police?” I asked quietly as I looked at the newspaper. Some of my co-workers…are actually magical and…doing what they can to hide all of this from the human world. Are they…purposefully removing information from my reports to give the reports no indication of that magic was being used…and to keep the nonmagical world in the dark about all of this being here?
“Here is your coffee” the same woman, I think a dryad, walked over, and set a small tray on the table as she set a hammered bronze teacup on the table with a matching saucer along with this incredible looking hammered bronze and glass teapot filled with steaming hot black coffee that smelt…honestly, it was the best smelling coffee I’ve ever smelt.
“Thank you” I said, she nodded softly before taking the tray back as she walked back off towards the back of the shop. I poured myself a cup of the coffee as I slid the cup over towards me before taking a drink of it and like the scent, the coffee was the best tasting coffee I had ever tasted. I looked over at the small billfold on the table as I opened it, parchment was fitted on the slots to the sides of the soft brown leather with what looked like handwritten script sprawled across the paper. There were…all sorts of desserts, types of coffee, types of tea and…just a lot more than you could expect a small place like this to have.
I sighed softly as I just flipped through the few pages that made up the menu, there were lots of things that sounded extremely good by how they were described, but I honestly need to get back to work as quickly as possible so I can keep my job and all.
Soon after I got my coffee, the woman walked over again as she handed me something, it looked nothing like the charm that woman from earlier had, she called herself and me a…Seer, whatever that means or is. The charm she handed me was a diamond shape of dark leather, a burning bronze smaller oval in the centre of each side with a small piece of chain and a ring adorning the top point with the engravement of a crown above the same ornate script ring was in the centre of the bronze piece. A few bronze gromets were along the edges and it almost it felt like the charm was covered in a heavy, heavy cover of static making my skin prickle as I held it in my hand.
The charm was also…absurdly cheap, the coffee was what you’d expect in terms of price, but…how is a piece like this that could allow someone like myself such free travel into this hidden world so cheap?
