Jon looked like he had just run a marathon, face red, and sweat running down his face.
"Interesting." Amber muttered looking to Jon as she began eating her own food.
We all had varying degrees of confusion shown on our faces.
"They told me what you were going to do. That you were going to poison October." Jon said. Still panting.
I stayed still staring at Amber gripping the bottom of my chair, Erin and Steph stood up together holding each other.
Sebastian hit the table and glared towards Amber. "Say something." He said.
"Well obviously I'm not going to do that." She said.
But before any one could accuse Jon of lying, she said "I had my boys slip to Jon while fixing the car that I had to get rid of October, to save the rest of us. That getting rid of him, gets rid of the monsters here."
"How does that help anyone? How would you even know?" I asked shocked, and still shaken.
"Because, my love. It would. In a way. They would follow you." She says smiling. "I didn't really think Jon would tell you all, honestly. That's the most interesting part about this."
"Disregarding that, he's only been here for a few days." Jon said angrily.
Dropping her fork, Ambers expression changed quickly from enjoyment to dismay.
"You haven't been here this whole time?" She said with an edge.
I shook my head.
"Amber, tell us what you are talking about." Sebastian said glaring voice cold and unforgiving.
"Some one opened inanis and didn't close it once they got here. They're letting all of these monsters in."
"Why did you think it was me?" I asked.
"I know what you are. You are the grandson of the Goddess Nyx." She answers with a straight face, no indication that she was joking, but I still couldn't take her seriously.
"Like lived in suffering, torment, and darkness and still not evil? That Nyx? Made day and light?" I asked laughing.
"How do you know all of this?" Sebastian asked straight faced.
"I'm a seer. I knew a relative of the god would be here today. That's why I had my boys lie to Jon. To make sure he wasn't putting you in danger with his negative feelings for you." Jon's face become even more red. Probably with embarrassment not anger.
"Inanis? What does that mean?" Jon asked still tense with anger, muscles wound up.
"In means empty in Latin." I say.
"You know Latin?" Erin asks. I shake my head to the negative.
"Sors immanis et inanis." I whisper,
"Monstrous and empty fate." Sebastian answers back.

Once the car has been fixed, goods traded and Steph has gotten her medicine, I want to head back. Feeling uneasy here.
Amber gives me journals that belonged to Nyx.
Like a lot of kids at the time, I had an unhealthy obsession with mythology due to a certain book series. I read all the books cover to cover when ever I could get to a library.
And when reading the same words again and again grew tiring, I would use the free library computers and see what the books had been based on.
The myths of half animals half humans, wars and magic, was an exciting controlled chaos. The ending was already written, nothing new could go wrong. The stories stayed the same, no matter how many times I read them.

We all start to tumble into the car, baffled by the events of the day.
Before clambering into the back of the car I make my way to Jon on the hood of the car. He's confused as I sit next to him with a kind look on my face.
"Thank you for trying to save me, even if you didn't like me." I said.
His expression softens.
"It's okay. I'm sorry for being so mean to you." He said sincerely.
"Sorry for punching you." I answer back.
"I deserved it." He says quietly.
"Why did you care so much that some thing was gonna happen to me?" I ask softly.
He shrinks into him self, "I shouldn't let you die just because I didn't like you." He says softly.
"I'm sorry for being mean." He continues, "I'll apologize to everyone else, I hated them because they could put words to how they felt. I couldn't. Steph can say she is trans and Erin can say she is a lesbian. They found words that fit. I don't know how they did. I was angry they got to be comfortable but I couldn't."
"Jon," I started in shock.
"It doesn't change what I did." He says.
"Apologize to them." I say. "But first, tell me about what you are feeling I want to help you."
"When people look at me, I know that they see someone different than I do, or I want to see. I didn't get why anyone did anything in relation to their gender till I found out I was supposed to because I was a boy."
"I thought everyone felt different every day. Wanting to be like the other boys for a while and then suddenly be like the girls. Or not fitting with any of them." He explained with tears in his eyes.
"Please just tell me what this is." He begged. Like I'm a doctor giving him a diagnosis, and an amount of time to live.
I put my hand on him arm trying to comfort him. "You know that there isn't anything wrong with feel like this right?"
He nods tears running down his face with a small smile. "I need the words for it so I know I'm not crazy." He said.
"I don't know for sure, but maybe you are gender fluid, or nonbinary." He listens intently, as I explain, nodding sometimes.
We talk for an hour before he becomes to uncomfortable to continue. Saying something about "taking a piss before hitting the road" deliberately lowering his voice.
I open the door to the car, Sebastian is asleep on the last bench, Erin and Steph have a first aid kit open on theirs.
Erin wipes Steph's leg with an alcohol cloth, before taking the pre measured vial Steph is holding out to her.
Taking an inch of skin on the side of Steph's thigh, she carefully inserts the needle into her leg.
After administering, Erin puts the needle and vile in a sharps container.
"What was that?" I ask.
"It was Estrogen." Steph says.
I nod, remembering the mention of needing to get medicine for her, this must of been it. Jon enters the car.
"Everyone ready?" He asks.
With three noises of affirmation he begins the drive home.
