(Death's Pov)
Week four into the first term and Commander Hathor Abate was unfortunately back in pe again, making everyone go into 'assigned' pairs and train by fighting one on one. Gamer's hands was surrounded with black smoke "Ready?" the fallen asked as I took a steady breath "Yeah" the second after I answered, Gamer flicked his right hand up, a shadow-smoke-like arm popped up out of the ground, grabbed my ankle and yanked on it, causing me to fall backwards to the floor. "That seemed too easy" Gamer said "Because you're using magic-" "No Death, it's because you let it be 'too easy' for him" Hathor told me as she walked over to us "You must use whatever knowledge you have gained from watching your partner fight and use it against him" Hathor explained, I rolled my eyes as I stood up. "Try again" Hathor told the us, Gamer's hands immediately surrounding with smoke once again while I got into a readied stance and in a split second, Gamer flicked his right hand up and I immediately dodged the shadow-smoke-like arm that again popped up out of the ground. I laughed a bit at the fact I was able to dodge it this time yet I watched Gamer smirk as the fingers of his right hand slowly curled in and yanked his hand back towards himself as if pulling on a rope... the shadowed-smoke arm forcefully hit the back of my legs, causing me to fall to the ground again, flat on my back. "Fuck" I breathed out as the black smoke around Gamer's hands faded "You alright?" Gamer asked "Yeah" I answered "Just feel like someone's got a huge fucken advantage-" "That's how future fights and battles are going to be" Hathor told me. "Your enemy will always have an advantage, whether that is holding someone hostage to having stronger magic" Hathor explained, kneeling down next to me as I slowly sat up "I've heard that you and Shadow have a bit of a strong connection, strong enough to be able to fuse into one person" Hathor quietly stated. "Yeah, and?" "And I believe you can use said connection to at least sense how and when Shadow will attack" Hathor told me "Make the connection, then use it against him" Hathor then stood up, grabbing my sleeve and pulling me up to my feet "Try again".
Hathor moved away as black smoke surrounded Gamer's hands once again whilst I closed my eyes. Make the connection, any connection... think of something that can only connect you to the fallen angel. ..."...what do you want me to say then?" "I don't know, can we just... put the deal off for a bit" Gamer asked, avoiding to look at me in the eyes "Can I ask why?" "Look, I know I agreed to the stupid deal but- I can't... I can't do it- any of this..." that was his answer, his own pathetic explanation... I could feel it, the anger I've repeatedly buried, I could feel it burning my veins like acid... again, I felt like it was gonna explode. My new connection to Gamer... absolute anger and pain.
I stood in a readied stance again, looking up at Gamer as my eyes burned crimson red and in a split second, Gamer flicked his right hand up. The shadowed arm popped up out of the ground, I immediately dodged it before once again Gamer curled his fingers into his hand and yanked his hand back... I summoned my sword and immediately sliced through the shadowed arm, causing the fallen to stumble back a bit. I smirked at Gamer as he looked back at me before I ran at him and swung my sword. It clashed with his spear he had summoned just in time.
Gamer then went full shadow, managing to go right through me like a ghost before trying to hit me from behind, yet I immediately turned around and blocked the attack. We fought for what seemed like a minute until I glitched to behind Gamer, about to attack the fallen yet Gamer immediately turned his head, eyes glowing bright green as I found myself frozen in place with a spearhead to my neck. "Enough" Gamer lowered his spear at Hathor's voice, his eyes no longer glowing as I gained control of my own body again, sword disappearing out of my hands "That was better, but you need to be even better then that" Hathor told us whilst mostly looking at me. "You two are done for the day, you may leave if you want" Hathor said before walking off towards another pair whilst me and Gamer headed to the boys' changerooms get get out of our pe uniform. I opened my locker as Gamer opened his yet I could feeling his staring "Death, can I ask you something?" there was slight hesitant-ness behind his voice "Sure" I said, taking off my pe shirt "What did Hathor say to you before that last... 'fight'?" Gamer asked "...she told me to use the 'connection' we have with each other, to 'sense' what you were gonna do" I answered, finally feeling his eyes lift off me. "O-oh..." "Something wrong?" I asked, putting on a normal shirt "N-no, it's just that... you looked incredibly angry, it felt like you wanted to kill me-" "I get how you would think that" I laughed a bit "I was just too determined to actually win for once, sorry for spooking you" I laughed a little more, covering up the painful lie. "Oh... right, got it" Gamer responded as I quickly finished up getting dressed into non-uniform clothes. I soon closed the locker door and threw my bag over my shoulders before walking towards the door of the changerooms "Hey Death" I stopped at the sound of Gamer's voice "Want to hang out in the den? I'm pretty sure a few students from 1C have a free period and are already down there-" "I'll pass" I answered. "Death-" I walked out of the changerooms back into the school hall before also walking out of the side exit.
A few minutes later, I was walking the empty corridors of Building D, also known as Whitfold Building. Normally ego course students don't have classes or any given purpose to be in this building, yet it doesn't stop people from roaming whatever building they wish. I however, am here for a specific reason. I soon found a storage room, walking inside to see its poorly organised boxes. I signed before starting to quickly 'look' through each box before finally finding the object that I was looking for. I held the double-sided mirror in my hand, one side had an engraved flower below the mirror, right where it joined with its handle whilst the other had an engraved skull. A tomotte-ase mirror, one side will show your past, both horrid and peaceful whilst the other showed one of your human's memories. The flower side is the human memory and the skull side is your past. This was our assignment two years ago when we were all first years, term three, Ianthe gave us the assignment to forgive and accept ourselves and our past yet only a few people passed the assignment... one of those people was me. My eyes glowed red as I looked into the mirror of the flower side, forcing the mirror to show me my human and I saw them... or at least one of the 'saddest' sights of a memory they'll have. A small boy with ivory skin and dark brown hair, curled up against a cold concrete wall, crying for someone who's never gonna come and 'rescue' him... I pitted that memory the very first time I saw it because if I was another demon looking at this.... I would've called such sight pathetic. Although for me, seeing this memory makes me a little worried. When looking at a future memory of a human with a tomotte-ase mirror, you're not given any sound or any 'background' on how the human ended up in said memory or situation. What I see is a boy crying, but he could really be locked in his room, or hiding, or somebody abandoned him for all I know... you're never given a 'why' or 'how', just the memory itself and most of the time, the memories you get to see, aren't in any order whatsoever.
I turned the mirror over to the skull side, only seeing my reflection and nothing else.... how did I passed the assignment? I forced myself to look in that mirror no matter how much I hated what I saw... because all I had before becoming a demon was horrid memories. It was absolute torture... and I deserved it. Because in the end, I'm not a human or a demon, I'm just the worst monster to ever live... and what's worse is that after making myself rewatch that crap again, it wasn't anywhere near enough to be considered torture.
I threw the mirror at the wall, only the glass of the skull side shattered before raining down like dangerous hail. I walked over to the mess, bending down as I looked at my reflection of a glass shard... yet it was really the reflection of my true demon form staring back with his cold dead eyes, horrific sharp-toothed grin on his face. "And people wonder why I hate you" I quietly snapped at the monster-like reflection before standing up and walking out of the storage room.
