After a bit, I shook her hand as she told me to go introduce myself to some of my new co-workers and things of those lines and that I did not have to do any work for them today as I was only just bought on for this. And as long as it’s on the company dime, I’m not going to say no to some free time that I get so little of due to my job. Chief Penelope also told me to take my phone down to floor three where I can get my phone enchanted to be able to use the magical side of the internet, they’d also get me the things I need as I work for them now too. They asked if I wanted a uniform for here too, but…I said no to that due to the fact that it felt a little weird wanting to get a police uniform for a department that I don’t technically work for to the same extent as I do the London P.D. They did ask for my badge and I.D for the department as they told me that I could get my badge and things magically marked so that I can work alongside the magical police without them thinking I was a human who got inside the city somehow or something along those lines, just marking me as one of their own. While all of that was happening, I just started asking about Towerblock due to the fact that…it seemed far larger than London, which it was according to them.
They told me about how the city was actually just as old as London if not a bit older than London, so where I am now is considered the old town of the city, but there are all sorts of various districts and areas of the city. There are arts districts, restaurant districts, shopping areas and pretty much a district for everything and anything that someone could possibly want. One of the people in the department who was putting the enchantment on my phone to use the magical internet told me that her favourite district to just be around and look around was a district she referred to as West Reldis, according to her centuries ago it used to be a big warehouse block, but was converted into super cool loft apartments, lofted shops, cool artsy restaurants, and all sorts of converted warehouse buildings. She also explained to me that there is an Underground here too and that the districts are actually a lot easier to navigate than you would expect, she also said that there is a terminal barely more than ten metres outside of the department’s front door.
After I got my things enchanted, I did walk about and introduce myself to the other investigators on the same case, whom barely had more information than me, they just had compilations of what magical residue and various aspects about what kind of magic the thief used and lists of what species of magical beings can use that magic innately as part of what they are. The office had my contact information and all and the person on the case at the magical office said that she would get all of the information they have about this case to me as quickly as possible. Afterwards, I made my way back down to the lobby as I looked at my badge, seeing the regular emblem and decorations on the shield shift in my eyes like something with a duo-chrome colour, as I turned the shield in my hand the silver shifted to gold as this ring of sunrays with a deeply engraved and inlaid red ornamental ring with the crown embossed above with what looked like gemstones set into the gold or something with Towerblock on the banner along the bottom of section of the shield, but as I tilted the shield in my hand, it shifted back to the shield badge I was used to. Honestly, it was kind of cool shifting the shield in my hand to see it shift between the gold and silver or trying to hold the shield at an angle where it was half and half.
As I walked out of the building, I tucked my phone and badge back into my jacket’s pocket as I looked around for the sign marking as the entrance to the underground, a swirly green metal post with a large sign above a softly sloped spiral downwards ramp merged into a staircase was below it and the sign had Towerblock Tube across it. I walked down the stairs and walked downwards through the slightly echoing channel, stairwell, and concrete monolith room as I walked down into what honestly what felt more like a Harry Potter train platform than an underground platform. All of the concrete shifted to stonework of bronzes, brass, and creamy tones, lots of matching toned metal elements covering the walls, making railings and all sorts of decorations and even these metal trellis along the walls covered in sprawling vines and colourful flowers and softly glowing blooms. This wall of softly glowing amber glass was along the back as four huge archways went off at the diagonal points leading to the four platforms. Central to the huge room was this glowing white triangular pillar marking the map of Towerblock with the Tube lines marked in various colours. I walked up to it as all sorts of people milled about as I looked for the marker that said West Reldis and found it on the pale purple line. I could also just use regular pounds to buy a pass, was actually cheaper than my regular pass for the Underground. I walked out onto a platform as this extremely strange looking train soon pooled into the stations as not a droning sound played, but something more along the lines of ringing bells, the train was almost solid coppery with large amber colours windows with sparkling colourful markings and artwork along the sides and the front was fully cone shaped with a long, sharp point. Inside the train was…far larger than you could expect, but it wasn’t like there wasn’t another city within the train, but it was far larger than a regular train car, there was more than enough space for everyone to be seated and the train seemed to shift and twist forming more seats and areas for people as the purple seats seemed to expand and twist as more of them formed. I sat on one of the seats as I looked up towards the map along with the magical ads along the roof as they usually are.
The train was also…much more respectful than the London Underground is, there was nobody calling random people slurs and profanity, nobody drunk or using drugs, it was…in a weird way pleasant. There were people talking, but it was soft, warm, and kind small talk, between people who just happened to be going in the same direction at the time. People were talking about new restaurants, or I heard someone asking someone where they got a piece of clothing and the two just were having small talk about clothing and some shopping, there was talk about movies and all the various sort, but all of chatter was very quiet, to the group and nobody was forcing themselves into other people’s conversations, everyone was being respectful to everyone else around them. It was almost…a little disturbing how pleasant and quiet the ride was in comparison to the masses of shit I have experienced on the London Underground. It was a few stops and train changes before I walked through a similar lobby, but it had a large sign hanging from the ceiling that said West Reldis. I smiled softly as I started making my way up the spiral ramp and staircase as a centaur woman just fully ran past me and into the district.
