Karma(Vigilante Deku)

Chapter 10: More training and therapy

Chapter 10: More training and therapy

Dec 25, 2021

Shota is sitting in the middle of a roof as he listens to what Deku has to say.

"Where should I start." The kid asks.

"You can start wherever you want, explaining all the different nightmares you've had might be a good place to start."

"I don't really have many different nightmares, it's mostly the same one."

"That's fine it makes sense, nightmares can be driven by a lot of things like trauma or a guilty conscience. Considering how many people you've killed -"

"They're not about the people I killed." They're not, Shota thought. "I rarely have nightmares about the people I've killed."

Shota doesn't show a physical reaction but inside is a little distressed. He knows that doesn't mean that the kid doesn't care about the people he's killed or feel anything but it's worrying if that's what it does mean.

"What are your nightmares about then?"

"Deku takes a deep breath as he looks down at his fidgeting fingers. "When I was six," he starts, "I got kidnapped but I think that's public knowledge." Shota nods.

"That was the start of your career." Shota says, a statement more than a question.

"Yeah, I was kidnapped and all the kids were put in a room. Every night someone would be sold off and it was only a matter of time till it was me."

"That must have been scary."

"Yeah it was. You never knew if you were going to be sold off next, and then waking up to find another person gone..." The kid pauses.

"Take your time." The kid nods but continues straight after.

"Eventually there was about five of us left and there was this one kid, I can't remember what he looked like but I remember he had horns." Shota nods urging him to continue. "He got upset that I was the only one without a quirk canceling collar but hadn't done anything."

"Why hadn't you done anything?"

"Cause I was quirkless, well that's what I was told, it turns out I did have a quirk." Well this was news, this information could change a lot.

"It must be really upsetting to know that you did have the power to get you all out of there but found out too late."

Deku nods. "There was this one girl who stood up for me. I don't remember her face, I don't remember anyone's face from that day but I remember her blonde hair which shone like the sun. And her name, I remember her name, it was Akira Taiyo."

"That was the girl who was found dead right?" Izuku nods. "Okay, continue." Shota was getting an idea of what happened and he wasn't liking it.

"She was the first person who had ever been nice to me when they found out I was quirkless. Because of this I guess I ended up really wanting to protect her."

"Okay, that's understandable, you must have gone through quite a bit of discrimination after all."

"Yeah, it was pretty bad but it was bareable. Even with my mother, after we found out I was quirkless she just ignored me most of the time and didn't even acknowledge my existence. But then that girl, that girl who didn't even know me accepted me so quickly and didn't even question anything. Of course I'd want to protect someone like that."

He shifts a little as he looks up to the sky trying his best not to cry.

"But I guess I did more harm than good by protecting her."

____

They were finally, getting started and Katsuki was pumped up and ready to go. Not even the detective asshole could sour his mode.

"Right then first things first, tell me everything about your quirk." Yagi-sensei says clapping his hands together.

"My quirk is explosion, I sweat nitroglycerin and the I can ignite it."

"So that's why you brought that many water bottles. Glad to know you can handle yourself." Granny chimes in.

"Yeah, if I use my quirk too much I get dehydrated."

"Well then I'll keep that in mind." Yagi-sensei says. "Anything else."

"Uhh, I can only ignite the nitroglycerin in my palms. And that other day when you offered to train me, my classmates overwhelmed me and I lost control."

"That's why you were getting scolded?" Yagi-sensei asks.

"Partly." The adults wait for an explanation but soon enough it becomes clear that they're not going to get one, Yagi-sensei continues.

"That's fine we all tend to lose control sometimes."

"Yeah but not explosive control." Maybe if Katsuki ignores the asshole he can pretend he's not there.

"Well that comes with his quirk after all." Granny says smacking the asshole on his leg. The old woman is now officially one of Katsuki's favourite people. "One more thing dear. Knowing the effects of nitroglycerin can you tell me any medical effects your quirk has?"

Katsuki answered effortlessly having been put through the stress his quirk gives him countless times even when not using it. "Sometimes I can have really bad migraines but those have decreased so I don't get them often, apparently it's due to me gaining a tolerance to it overtime. Although sometimes my blood pressure fluctuates quite drastically cause of the nitroglycerin in my blood stream."

Granny nods as she thinks for a second. "That makes sense, it seems like you know how to handle yourself though so I think it will be fine for you lot to train without me here. I'll look at your medical record later just incase there's something that my attention should be brought to."

A few minutes pass as Katsuki and recovery girl talk about the effects and drawbacks to his quirk until they finally begin training.

____

"Right then, let's do this. I want you to start by making the smallest explosion you can." Katsuki looks over to Yagi-sensei confused, why the hell was he supposed to make a tiny explosion.

Yagi-sensei just looks at him expectantly so giving in Katsuki does as he says. He opens his palm, faced up towards the sky and let's lose a couple of sparks. He turns back to Yagi-sensei.

"Perfect." He says. "Now make the largest explosion you can." Now this was what Katsuki was talking about.

"If I'm gonna do that we should go do it over the sea." Katsuki warns.

"Why, could it really be that big." The detective teases, Katsuki grit his teeth as the detective droned on. They all went towards the sea so Katsuki could let of his explosion.

Spreading his feet wide apart and bending his knees a little, he holds on to his wrist to brace himself. If All Might wanted the strongest thats what he was going to damn get, Katsuki would love every second of proving the detective asshole wrong. Taking a deep breath Katsuki let's off an explosion. The water ripples and the flames continue licking the surface of it up to five meters away. The flames dance in the air as the explosion starts to settle and tiny bits of ash fall to the ground.

The first thing Katsuki does is look over to the detective who's mouth is now hanging open. He smirks causing the man to just scoff.

"Good work I guess." Katsuki's shit eating grin only grew and he could feel the detectives annoyance practically radiating off of him.

"That was amazing young Bakugo. Although may I ask if there was a reason you held onto your wrist like that." Yagi-sensei asks.

"Big explosions have a recoil on my shoulders."

"That's what I thought, we'll have to get shoulder braces for you to increase the effectiveness of your quirk." Granny says.

"Ok then, you've got amazing power and you've got a wide range of control over your quirk." Yagi-sensei says. So that's why he had asked him to make the smallest explosion he can. "We can look at control another day but for now I want you to let out an explosion for the shortest time you can and the longest time you can, stop if the strain on your muscles become to much."

Katsuki had no idea what this was supposed to show, maybe it was still control but All Might had moved on from that. Whatever, Katsuki did as Yagi-sensei said anyway. He lets out a single spark then looking over to Yagi-sensei who gives him a go ahead. He sets a moderately large explosion and this time holds it for over a minute.

"Well done,  your quirk has got great durability, we can work on your physical durability another time. We're going to test out power now, I'm going to give you some stuff to explode varying in size and strength."

Katsuki nods as the twig goes over to the pile of junk and starts taking things out. A while later and he's back, holding a few items which look way to heavy for him. He sets down a plastic bottle, a toaster and a few other scrap parts. He hands Katsuki the plastic bottle and on All Might's signal he explodes it.

They go through a few other items till finally Yagi-sensei gives Katsuki the toaster. Exploding the toaster would be a little bit harder than everything else but Katsuki could still explode it easily.

Motioning for them all to step back they do as he says as Katsuki prepares to explode the toaster. Bracing him self he explodes it and scraps of metal end up flying everywhere.

Once the scraps and ash finally settles they all regroup in the center to hear All Might's evaluation.

"You really do have excellent control of your quirk, you can adjust your power output based on what your destroying which will help you save your energy and sweat in the long run. Although we'll have to work on minimising the damage you cause, in the future you'll have to worry about the people around you and how your fight will affect them so its better to look at that now." Katsuki nods, taking a mental note of everything All Might just said.
"Well then that's about everything. Do you have anything else you could possibly show us with your quirk?"

"I've been working on a way to fly using my quirk."

"How ambitious." Commented the detective.

"And how's that going for you?" Granny asks smacking the detective once again with her cane, Katsuki's convinced that he must have a bruise by now.

"I'm able to stay up in the sky for a while but moving around is hard. I have to get better at changing the angle and power of my blasts mid air so I can change direction."

Yagi-sensei raises his hand to his chin as he thinks for a while." I might not be able to help you that much with flying but we can work on it occasionally. I'll ask around for advice on flying but for now show us what your able to do right now."

Katsuki nods as he steps back a little from the adults. Bending his knees, he holds his palms flat out. Letting out explosions he rises into the air, stumbling a little he increases the output in his left hand to balance himself. He stays in the air for a few more seconds before coming back down, the landing isn't perfect but he manages to stay on his feet the whole time.

"It seems like balance is another attribute you excel at, that'll certainly make mastering this technique easier. Although going up and moving left and right are completely different things which I have no idea how to help you with." Yagi-sensei says walking up to Katsuki.

Granny does the same while the detective hangs back a little. "I'm sure you'll be able to master it if you study some videos online, there should be quite a lot. I'll also help as best as I can by asking around although I won't always be able to attend your training, I am a very busy woman after all."

"When is the next training day anyway." The detective asks.

"That's right, we only agreed to twice a week we didn't specify which days though did we. What days are you available young Bakugo?"

"I'm forced to go therapy on Fridays but any other day I'm free."

"You know therapy isn't a bad thing, it's meant to help you." Granny says.

Katsuki grits his teeth and crosses his arms. "I don't need therapy."

"Whether you think you need it or not its going to help you, and since your planning on going to UA I advise you get used to it now." Katsuki just groans but says nothing more on the subject.

Taking that as a cue to speak, Yagi-sensei claps his hands together. "Right then, in that case how about Saturday."

Katsuki nods. "Saturday is fine."

"I won't be coming on Saturday. It's not like you really need me anyway so I'll come to the training sessions once in a while, but you should just assume that I'm not coming." The detective says. Katsuki may have been a little too happy about the fact he wouldn't have to see him again for a while.

"Looks like training will be just us two fo a while. Well then on this note let's stop here for today."

"Already." Katsuki still has energy to spare.

"We've been at this for quite a while and today was only a few tests to see what your capable of, there isn't really anything else we can work on today."

"Plus you should get some rest, I bet you've already had a long day at school so you should give yourself time to relax a bit." Granny adds on.

"Fine, I get it we're done, I'll leave now." Katsuki goes over to where his bag is and takes a large gulp of water before putting the now empty bottles inside. Picking it up, he puts it on then takes out his phone to text Deku that he can come over if he wants to.

Worst mistake of his life.

____

Shota sighs as he pinches the bridge of his nose. He leans back a little resting most of his weight on his hand as he looks up to the sky. Deku had already left long ago but Shota was still sat in the same place not even attempting to get up.

Deku had explained everything that had happened in his childhood - leaving out the specifics of his quirk and many other details - now Shota completely understood how such a young child could end up how he is now. Shota knew that he had to have some kind of traumatic background, most vigilantes do, but he never expected anything so gruesome.

He knew everything he experienced as a kid, being subjected to discrimination, getting kidnapped then getting driven to the point that he snapped and murdered every adult there, he understood how distressing all of that must have been. No kid should have to experience any of that, but in the end it was that ideal that brought about Karma. Karma fights to protect children and their future, he fights to reassure the adults too afraid to let their children out of their sights. He fights for justice and a normal upbringing for all children so none of them will ever end up like him. He fights for a good cause, but how long until that cause just slowly turns into revenge.

Shota knew that was a stupid idea, that Deku wasn't the type of person who would abandon all his morals, but he couldn't help but have this feeling. Deku had proved to him that he valued life when they first met, that he didn't want to take people away from their loved ones, but just now he had also proved how desensitised he was towards the people he has killed. What if his values changed, what if life and loved ones no longer mattered, would that mean he'd go around killing people senselessly.

Shota erased the thought from his mind, finally getting up and brushing himself off. He knew that even if this was to happen it would take a lot to change Deku's ideals. If you aren't involved with his goal then he has no reason to kill you, thats what he had said, and that's what Shota will make sure he will stay by no matter what.

Shota scoffs,  surprised at his own determination to lead the child on the right path. "What a problem child." He says as he jumps of the roof and makes his way home.

Since the arrival of All Might crime rates have decreased significantly in Japan, but there's still one problem hero's are unable to do anything about. Corruption in the government has led to the increase of child trafficking, so much so that any child is lucky to not have been kidnapped by the age of 6.

What hero's are unable to do though is easily done by the vigilante Karma, a hero to the people. Unbound by the law he can freely try to put an end to this rein of terror, that is if he doesn't get caught.
