Ten Years Young

ni hao bao

ni hao bao

Dec 26, 2021

The girls in the audience screamed and looked delighted to see their favourite visual kei boys sing. They waved their hands in the air and clapped whenever a member of the band spoke in the mic.

Belle got caught up in it herself. The four boys were beautifully synchronised in their school uniforms, make-up and hair.

She could see Yuta on the right hand side of the stage and she bit her lip. He looked otherworldly on stage playing his guitar. He seemed to be in his own universe and displayed immense skill during the solo bridge of the songs. His fingers seemed to dance on the fretboard of his electric guitar and it was mesmerising.

Belle didn't know much about instruments, she was terrible at music. Could barely distinguish the appearance of one note to the next. However she could admire those that could play instruments. She respected them a lot and Yuta seemed to be one of them.

Before the show, Yuta had seen Belle talking with a suited guy. He was curious and thought she may have brought a friend, but she had said she would come alone.

Then he got slightly annoyed. Was she picking up guys already at his show? How rude. She also looked very scanty with the almost backless top she had on and he wondered how she walked down the street with it when she was so shy to begin with. She was attracting so much unwanted attention to herself. And somehow that annoyed him.

Then when she did come through the staff only exit after a billion years, he partially ignored her and ate her share of the ni hao buns he ordered earlier.

He knew it was rude but was unable to control his behaviour. He knew that if he didn't behave standoffishly he might say something awful to her and he couldn't afford that to happen.

It wasn't that he was jealous or anything. He had just met Belle a few days earlier, there was no reason to be jealous of anything. But he had felt like he had known a lot about her already through her text language the past few days and somehow all that made him feel possessive.

He knew he was being a dick tonight right before the show especially right when he asked her to come and see them play.
Ignoring her.
Eating her food.
Giving her partial responses.

He would make it up to her later he figured as he sat brooding in the fire exit stairwell. He would pay for her boba again or something. Taichi had suggested he buy her some fancy chocolate from the David Jones Food Hall. He thought he could give that a go if she was upset with him. Taichi was never wrong with apology gifts for girls.

Just as he was about to get up, the door slid open and Belle's head emerged.

"Hey", she murmured. "You okay? I have some ni hao baos, we can eat them together."

When she passed him a ni hao bao into his hands, everything just seemed alright all of a sudden.
