As Princeton moved and took my watch, I could see over his entire neck and chest, from jaw down onto his sternum was this extremely intricate tattoo of bright, brilliant gold as if his skin was inlaid with gold wire in a complex geometric tattoo covering his skin which already had that golden tone making him look as if he was gilded, it was almost like light moved through the tattoo. The click of hard soles shoes made me glance past the edge of the counter as he used his foot to pull the stool back to the desk showing off knee high tightly laced black boots covered his shins and feet, but instead of feet…the glossy black leather was impossibly tight to his legs by the golden laces, the front half of the shoes missing showing these brushed gold and heavy looking gilded hoofs with a high, sharp and thin heel in the high arch of his feet. He had the feet of some people I’ve seen about, where the heel is raised and locked in place due to them having either lizard like feet or glimmering hoofs. Gilded chains off his hips softly rattled as he turned on the stool a little.
“Quite a bit of wear on the band. You wear this quite a bit, don’t you?” he asked, his voice was rich, warm and thick with a very posh London accent, but…shockingly high for his stature, but something about his voice seemed to act like this ice pick of pure electricity that shot into my back and made my spine go stiff as I gripped the edge of the counter.
“Yeah…I’m an Investigator so…I need to have something like that on a lot.”
“I see, that would explain this amount of wear” he said, “You know a metal band would be much more durable than leather. Leather does absorb the oils from the skin and deteriorate over time and use. Metal can be made matte, so the reflection be tampered as to not reveal your location.” He explained, there was something about the tone he was using that was…not forced, but like he was forcing himself to speak in a business tone. He sighed deeply before putting my watch down. “Can we talk?”
“What do you mean?”
“There is…something I need to tell you that has to do with what I am and who I am that involves you that…I need to talk to you about and I don’t really know how to explain it all to you and I would feel more comfortable telling you when…there aren’t any prying ears.” He said as he glanced up as I heard someone laugh as they flung themself around the mess of chains overhead. He sounded…extremely concerned and worried, there was this…unmistakable pulling feeling at my chest that was telling me that…I wanted and needed to go with him. He was wringing his hands, back still facing me as his posture was tense and restrained, his voice was constricted and quiet.
“…alright” I said not really sure as to why I was even saying that myself.
“This way” he whispered as he walked along the counter as I walked along the other side before he opened a hatch and let me on the other side before opening a heavy sounded and looking door that lead into a back section of the building. He closed the door behind the two of us as he breathed deeply, climbing up a few of the steps that wound up past the floors as he sat to look towards the ground as he breathed deeply. “My…species, the warlords, sense my cousin Kal, was born…he’s the eldest of all of us…we’ve been…we don’t know wither to say blessed or cursed because it’s a mixture of both to all of us.”
“And…what does that have to do with me?” I asked, he sighed as he rested his hands over his mouth and chin, I could see his hands twitching.
“This…cursed blessing that all of us are subjected to…it’s called the Bond…All of us have a single person across all of the world and all of time itself…that is perfect for us. For Kal it’s his husband Anthony, for Zavier it was their boyfriend Kain and for Vladislav it’s his boyfriend Aden” he said, “In…a lot of species, vampires, and all sorts of lycans, they have some form of magically given pairing for themselves across their lives.”
“…a soulmate?”
“To some people it is considered that, but to us: the Bond is someone that the magic that is innately in their body is the perfect opposite half to our own, the person would be our best friend and the absolute love of our lives beyond till time and space collapses on itself.” He explained
“Again, what do I have to do with it?” I asked, before he lowly laughed to himself.
“And you call yourself an investigator.” He laughed
“What?”
“It’s you” he said quietly, his eyes closed tightly for a split second, “We get…signs from the world’s magic when our Bond is around us: usually nightmares that make us hyper-focused on finding them and all” he whispered, “Because of my standing as warlord of the U.K…when you stepped for into Towerblock yesterday, it was like I got struck by lightning because of the fact you stepped within the magic I have over the city…when you came into the city earlier today, it was the same feeling…and as you got closer to my shop, it got…stronger and stronger and stronger. I can tell that you’re a Seer, your magic is deep in your soul and nowhere close to being able to use it or anything, but…I can…” he said before tightly closing his hands, “I can feel on the magic around me this…pull towards you.”
“Wait” I said as I fully…took in what he was saying. “You’re claiming that…because I exist…that I was born to be with you?”
“Not exactly. You weren’t born to be with me or anything like that.” He said, “We get nothing when our Bond are born or anything of that sort, we only become notified of our Bond existing…when they’re ready to meet us and be with us.” He whispered, voice quiet and heavy in the masonry channel of the stairwell. The low light of the lights along the wall matching the shadows stretch across the walls and floor. “I started getting my nightmares and felt this pull towards you a few days ago…the magic of the world which has been around longer than life itself, decided that you were ready to meet me.”
