Ian had continued to try and persuade Chenyi until finally he conceded and let Ian meet up with his parents.

Ian fiddled with his clothes subtly before he walked into the restaurant, holding Duo'er's hand.

Chenyi told him he would be coming as well, albeit a little late since he still had to finish a meeting,

So here he was, awkwardly sitting in front of his parents and trying to appease the bored Wenduo beside him as he tried finishing his food with a pout.

"Uhmm, good day Mother and Father." he said awkwardly, he hadn't really talked much with his parents in his past life.

Now that he was face-to-face with them, he didn't know what to say.

“Good morning, grandma Aline and grandpa Charles.” Wenduo greeted respectfully in turn before pouting back down to his food.

"Ian, Wenduo..." Aline said softly, giving him a small smile while gracefully taking a sip of her cup of water.

Charles nodded at him in greeting before settling his gaze on his grandson.

"I'm sure he's grown a lot from when you last saw him." Ian smiled softly while fiddling with the little one's hair.

"He was…” Charles let out a small cough to cover-up his faltering words.

“I believe he was... a year old by that time?" Aline said.

Charles raised an eyebrow at her, "I thought he was maybe a few months old when we last saw him."

Aline pondered, "Oh, yes. That was the last time we saw him together. I visited them just by myself after that because you were busy at that time."

After that silence just swept through them while Wenduo looked around here and there, not quite sure what to do in such an atmosphere.

Ian took a deep breath before meeting the eyes of his parents, "Mom, Dad... I know you guys didn't plan this... And I know you two don't like it whatsoever... but..." he looked at his son with fondness in his eyes and cupped his chubby cheeks, planting a kiss on his dark curls before wrapping an arm around him.

"...I love them... really, I do. Both Chenyi and Wenduo... they're the most amazing blessings I could ever receive for a lifetime... and I want to stay with them. I'd do anything for you guys, I'd come back to model, maybe even start my own business with you... but please don't force me to part from them..." Ian continued, his eyes brimming with tears.

Both Aline and Charles didn't understand that kind of sentiment. They were never close to their families either. But they really did love Ian in some way inside their hearts.

"...alright." Charles said. "We can’t do anything against you, much less to Cheng. So we won’t say anything or fight against you two. Just know that if you change your mind, you can come back to us. Maybe start working again in Neutré. You can bring Wenduo if you really want to.”

Ian's eyes began to gather tears as he let out a choked noise in relief.

A chair was dragged against the floor, before Chenyi sat beside Ian, "...am I late?"

Ian just smiled at him while Aline smiled politely as her husband nodded in greeting.

Wenduo just sneakily handed his daddy his unfinished food.
