The Silver Prolog

The Silver Prolog

Jan 02, 2022

Yet in another location, across the sunbaked, cracked and crunchy surface of dried out earth spotted by collections of sweeping sand dunes of piled high pale creamy sand that soon gave way to jutting, sharp and high reaching cliffs of warm brown stone, the hot sun making the air hazy and swirl with shifting images caught in the haze of heart. As the cliffs soon gave way to needle like mountains piercings the clouds, a swirl of sand seemed to stay centered around a large central pillar of stone, the archway of the wall of stone caused by the constantly swirling sand before the haze seemed to ripple intensely like ripples along the mirror like lake before…another city came into view, seemingly above the clouds. The city was almost as if it was atop a churning sea of roiling golden clouds, bright gilded, amber and bronze toned light covering the sky and bright sunlight softly shimmering against all of the surfaces of the city. Roads of shifting gilded sand edged in masses of matching gold/bronze/amber and silver toned buildings, people walking about or floating on clouds of various toned sandy clouds or various vehicles that were structures made out of their own sand. This massive city was circled and wrapped around a central ziggurat of glass and gold, four waterfalls of golden sand pouring against the tiered faces topped with a massive golden place with a mirrored sheen.

A large balcony overlooked the city from the tip of the palace, massive volumes of golden sand pouring off of the balcony source-less and unending as the sand billowed and cascaded from the robes of a woman standing central on the balcony. The woman was fairly tall, but impossibly thin with golden skin covered in heavy brushes and washes of golden glitter making it look as if she was made of it. Neon blue eyes scanning around the city around her looking for someone, huge sweeping sleeves of swirling gold, feathers, beads and fringe about her robe which was less of an overcoat, but a bit more of a robe and was obviously a Deel, the traditional clothing of Mongolia. Features serene and calm as she looked around, but there was a frantic look in her neon blue glowing eyes as she looked around, hands clutching a parchment letter with a pale blue wax seal and flanking bat like wings along with a curled scorpion tail. Long hair of pouring golden sand seamlessly moving from her head and through her clothing as if she was being held in place by the maelstrom of sand that enrobed her person, thick bundles of bangles on her wrists and ankles as she shifted around, patterns of clouds and space elements moving across the golden sand.

“Where is she? She usually isn’t gone for too long” she asked, turning on her foot as a heavy wash of sand poured off her clothing around her, as she spoke even her teeth and the interior of her mouth was gilded looking, the only element not gilded being her neon blue glowstick like eyes. Golden hair in a mix of braids and twists adorned with matching adornments, voice slow…soft and dreamy. She swept her arm out as a cascade of golden sand followed leaving small birds of sand in its wake, matching neon blue eyes as she looked towards them. “Please…go find her. It’s important, tell her that she needs to get here as soon as possible” she asked of the birds in a kind, warm and soft voice as the birds all seemed to nod before taking flight leaving trails of pale gold glitter behind them as they arced out and flew across the city in all directions. “Please come back” she whispered as she softly tapped the letter against her palm. The buzz of tectonic sized bugs, planes and various other fixtures of various colored, toned and luster dream sand and magic filling the air as people passed overhead and about the huge city around the massive ziggurat, huge cascades of golden sand falling over the sides swirling and leveling out into the roadwork and merging about the city and through the bases of buildings, rising up to form streetlights and fixtures of the roadwork and city.

She looked back down towards the letter, long gold nails softly passing along the parchment leaving golden dust against the material as her thumbs grazed the paper, concern filling her heart and twisting her stomach as she looked out over the city. Looking out over the city as she looked and scanned everything around her as she sought out the person whose name was on the letter…because she knows exactly whom bears that mark: she knows distinctly of who has that seal of a manticore’s wings and tail and whom bears that sky blue tone to their skin.
