The Blue Prolog

The Blue Prolog

Jan 02, 2022

Far, far to the east of the Halloween city, snow blistered around through the peaks of the needle like peaks of the Himalayas, peaks and spires of stone thickly enrobed in ice and snow, chunks randomly breaking away and causing small bunches of snow to scatter down across the sharp faces. The snow seemed to swirl and ripple as the world milked away into a massive teardrop shaped valley, encircled by Everest dwarfing peaks thickly blanketed in snow, bright sunlight washing over everything as a city of all white stone in marbles, granite and other stones marked across the valley, thick forestry at the edges pitch black with their thickness, the massive peak centered in the point of the valley had huge tunnels carved through it where building sizes masses of quartz were exposed, glittering in the sunlight: stark white, clear and pastel toned quartz made up the entire interior of the mountain: tunnels as wide as a river’s breadth and as tall as mighty redwoods letting sunlight stream in and move through the crystal casting prismatic sprays of color everywhere you looked, ornate gold and bronze filigree forming structures wrapping around the crystal pillars and adorning the crystal faces. The intense rapid beating of wings filled the air as a woman flew through the quartz halls before landing central to that massive quartz hallway. Thousands upon thousands of dragonfly wing adorned people fluttering through the halls, carrying satchels that jangled with coins or small toys as they flew off before returning with what looked almost like lock boxes.

The woman that flew in landed on the quartz floor, bare feet still softly clicking from chitin encased feet, limbs and legs covered in matching chitin in shades of white and pale pinks with an opal like luster across them, six massive dragonfly wings in sections of white, clear and soft pastel pink edged thickly in black, but pierced intensely along their bottom edges with golden charms, strings of bells and various fixtures, long black hair down in braids, what skin she had was a soft tan to it with a soft flush to it, all of her skin having that matching opal luster, but even her face had the same chitin plates along the edges and the contours of her face, neon green eyes softly glowing and a huge pair of curly antenna coiling off her temples. She looked around as she held a letter in one hand, dressed in a long sleeved and bloused white blouse with a tied neckline and cropped, under a long, wrapped and twisted deep cobalt sari, edged in ornate white embroidery adorned with silver and large charms and pieces of opal along the fabric, a very thick petticoat around her legs under the wrapped skirt of the sari, long trail of fabric hanging off the back of one of her shoulders, wide-legged and deeply pleated white trousers under the skirt and underskirt with blue/white and silver charms and jewelry pieces wrapped around her bare feet, the backs of her shoulders bare to allow her six massive wings to coil out and spread around her, far larger than those of all of the people around her.

She was petite in normal standards, but all of the fairies that flitted around her were no more than a yard or so tall, four feet at a maximum, but were so small that they were barely more than a foot or so tall leaving her a giant to them, but petite and delicate in her height to even humans. Her hand tightened around a large staff, hanging charms and tassels of ivory and opal carved…to look like teeth along with various other fixtures that were actual teeth of ancient extinct creatures adorning the chains hanging off the top where a large piece of carved ivory was set atop vaguely like an upside-down molar and wrapped in dragonfly wings with matching gold charms off their bottom edges.

“Do any of you where my son is?” she asked a passing fairy

“I’m sorry, ma’am, but…we’ve not seen him sense this morning. Is he out with the scouts?” the fairy asked

“He’d usually tell me if he was heading out. That…magic poacher has been giving him trouble, no matter how many times his mind is altered, he always comes crawling back.” the taller woman said, looking down towards the quartz, the crystal going so deep below her bare feet.

“I’ll send the word around, your majesty.”

“Thank you” the woman said as the smaller fairy fluttered off into the bottomless quartz halls of what they collected…teeth. “Where in the world have you gone to?” she asked walking over to the inner balcony overlooking the city, her own wings softly twitching as she was keeping the urge to fly off and search for him down as to not embarrass herself and him, but she’d admit, it was getting difficult for her to keep herself from stopping all of her work and flying off to deliver the letter to her son personally.

The taller woman swallowed hard as she looked down towards the large letter she held in hand, it had been delivered by abnormal means, no magic nor person showed up, it was just out of nowhere, she found the letter in her pocket, not as if someone had found their ways close to her before sneaking it into her pocket, but more along the lines of someone had used a powerful spell to teleport it into her pocket, but…to do that confused her…that level of precision in teleportation magic was not something people could just learn. It takes years for any magical person to be able to cast the basic form of the teleportation spell and it was considered an extremely powerful spell for anyone to be able to cast, but to use it simply for a letter and to be able to get it into her pocket was not only a massive waste of magic, but far too small of a location that was mobile to teleport something into, most people would see teleporting onto a moving location as all, but self-destructive mission, there would be no way for someone to be able to teleport onto or into a moving target without greatly harming themself in the process, people can faulter in the casting of teleportation spells leaving chunks of their body behind which needs intense magical intervention to be able to correct due to the way the flesh would be severed.

“Why would she be wanting to speak to him?” she asked herself looking down to the letter, soot was smeared along the parchment which was singed along the corners leaving some spots open, leaves imprinted into the parchment, neon orange toned ink marking the parchment as the envelope softly bleeding at the edges showing a slight unfamiliarity with a fountain pen in the way the text was written, the envelope was closed by a large neon orange wax seal stamped with a hand made of flames brushed over in metallic black.
