“One of those days, eh?” Mabel asked as the four of us sat at just a corner table of whatever the closest chippy that sells alcohol closest to the department. I sighed heavily as I set my already empty glass on the table.
“Yeah” I sighed deeply
“So, do you want to talk about it?” Kegan asked
“I’m not even sure where to start” I said as I rested my arm on the table as I rested my head in my hand with that elbow on the table.
“Walk us through what happened after you saw the chief” Victoria said
“Well, I lied about the stakeout an’ all as you could guess” I sighed as I looked to the table, “So, I just started…looking around Towerblock, just wandering and someone at the department said they liked going about West Reldis.”
“That is a really pretty area” Mabel said
“And…there was just this weird feeling” I added
“Weird how?” Kegan asked
“Like walking through this wall of static”
“Static?” Victoria asked
“Yeah, but as confusing and uncomfortable walking through that wall of static was…there was this weird feeling of like a cord or something wrapped around me pulling me deeper and deeper into the district till…I found the building I was being led to…the Bronze Peacock.”
“The Peacock? Ain’t that the place that the warlord here lives in and owns?” Mabel asked
“Exactly” I said as I folded my hands, “Apparently there is some weird like…curse blessing bullshit on their family.”
“Yeah, there’s been mentions of it in the magical news for three of them some kind of like…magical weave chosen soul-mate or something. That model that everyone has the hots for is married to the eldest of them and two others have theirs, some cook over in Spain and some Russian doctor over in the colonies” Victoria said
“Well, the warlord here…is convinced that…I’m his” I said
“Oh…yeah, that would make anyone freak out” Mabel said before necking her ink black stout till only the froth was left clinging to the glass.
“I…what do I do?” I asked
“Sounds a bit strange, no…it’s your second day being knowledgeable of all of us and…one of the strongest beings in our world tells you that you are their soulmate or some shit like that” Kegan said
“I said that, and he said that he only told me that so soon after me learning about the magical world because he said that he thought it would have been easier for me to process everything at once instead of…the two huge hits at different times.” I said
“Also, kind of stupid, no?” Victoria said with a shrug, I did have to agree with that a little, but what’s done is done.
“But what do I do?” I asked
“I’m not sure to be honest at least for myself…Mabel, as a vamp, don’t your people have something like that?” Kegan asked
“Yeah, we do, but it’s…it’s different for us” she said with a shrug, “For us, they’re called our Lifeblood, the people who are our Lifebloods have magic that our bodies would see as like…pure serotonin or something, that their blood will make us the strongest we will ever be, they’ll be the best partner in all of time for us…things like that. One of my kind, though a lord, she’s stateside too, she found hers like three years ago…I think they were around the same time as Varga found his husband.”
“Princeton said something similar to that.” I said
“Yeah, but…archdemons are different than me.” Mabel said, “I can still die to a lot of shit, but them…everyone knows that all of the deities of death work for their nan and she refuses to allow any of them to die so they’re all as immortal as life and death itself.”
“Their nan?” I asked
“Some like…primordial or something deity of the hells…that’s about all they’ve said about her, that she’s the goddess of the hells and she refuses to let them die.” She explained with a shrug.
“Dorian…how do you feel about hearing that?” Victoria asked, “Not about their nan, but…about what Princeton said?”
“I don’t know.” I said, “I’m still working through the motions of learning about all of this magic shite being real an’ all an’ now I find out I’m some fuckin’ stronger than everyone dude’s soulmate within a two-day time…how am I supposed to react?”
“And there’s the Kent accent coming out” Mabel said, I sighed
“Sorry, it comes out a bit when I’m anxious”
“Oh, wait till you see Mabel drunk” Kegan said
“Oh, ha, ha” she said rolling her eyes
“She’s from Cardiff, she forgets to speak English when she’s a bit drunk.” He added
