Aren decided to not test his full strength just yet, as it could draw unnecessary attention to himself, opting to test his Infernal Aura and Gravity abilities.
Beginning with Gravity, he simply imagined gravity doubling around him.
WHOOSH
The grass around him in a small radius flattened itself, and he noticed that his own body did not feel the effects of it, a constant tiny space around his body not being affected by his ability.
Aren continued to experiment for a little while, discovering his current limits. The maximum radius he could expand his gravity control was just over thirty feet, and the maximum weight at a thirty-foot radius was six times normal. However, the smaller he made the range, the higher gravity he could create. At a ten-foot radius, the gravity was eighteen times normal!
Aren also tried lowering the gravity, which was almost completely useless unless he used it on his own body, in which case half of the normal gravity nearly doubled his speed before it became too awkward to be efficient.
When practicing, Aren noticed that he could sense his mana now. Visualizing it in his mind, it appeared in the form of a small pond. The water level would decrease as he used his abilities, and slowly refill while he was not using them. Additionally, he just had a feel of how much he had left without having to visualize it, like a sixth sense.
He found that using his gravity ability drained mana extremely fast, only being able to hold it at any power for thirty seconds.
The final thing he tried was increasing the weight of handheld inanimate objects and his body. This seemed to be far more powerful than the skill he named Gravity Field. Picking up a stick, he felt that he could increase its gravity by at least 200 times! Unfortunately, it crumbled to pieces before that point, and there was nothing better to use.
Thanks to his Pinnacle Strength, Aren could increase his own weight to insane heights. Only when it reached 300 times greater, did his knees start to shake. At his body weight of 194 pounds, this resulted in his bodyweight increasing to a staggering 58200 pounds! Although he was only able to hold this for ten seconds, it was still enough for the ground around him to crack and sink down nearly a foot, forming a small crater.
Concluding all the testing for that ability he could think of, Aren moved onto Infernal Aura.
This ability was very straightforward. It exudes an aura that could have its temperature-controlled, and Aren could also control the distance it moved away from his body. The only limit to controlling these things was his mana. Currently, he could have a max radius of twenty feet from his body, and a minimum of one foot. The maximum temperature was around 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, and at that point, the grass was incinerated and the ground started blackening. However, he could only hold it at its max power for just ten seconds.
Aren was very pleased with his abilities. He thought they would make it nearly impossible for enemies to approach him, but then he remembered that other people had abilities too, ones that may allow them to completely ignore his own.
Having spent all day learning his abilities, Aren noticed that he was quite hungry, not eating anything substantial in over two days. He had seen a few larger animals around, so he decided to hunt with his new abilities.
Lowering his gravity by half, Aren sprinted off in search of food, and after about ten minutes, he found a small herd of deer. These deer actually appeared much larger than normal, with thicker limbs and muscles. Aren guessed this was a result of mana.
Stalking closer to them, he lowered himself down when he reached twenty feet in distance and burst forward with inhuman strength.
BOOOOM!
A small crater appeared where he launched from, and Aren soon realized he used far too much strength. Unable to stop himself, he slammed straight into the side of the deer at nearly 200 miles an hour, sending it flying.
“Oops…”
Aren had decimated the poor animal, every bone in its torso was broken, and pieces could be seen sticking out of the skin. It was killed instantly, not being able to react.
“Still good enough to eat, I guess…”
Aren tore some of the meat from the carcass and found that he could simply use his Infernal Aura to cook it. He laid the meat on a rock and increased the temperature of the aura until it looked good enough to eat. The meat was almost completely tasteless, but Aren ate an enormous amount, a lot more food was needed to satiate his hunger in this new body.
Finishing up, he began to think. Aren didn’t really know what to do in this new world, up until now he had just been doing whatever needed to be done to survive, but that was quickly getting boring.
However, the one thing that had been fun was using his abilities. The truth was that the thing Aren had always enjoyed most in life was fighting, and with his and others' new power, it would be even more exciting, although more dangerous at the same time.
Thinking back to the first creature that had attacked him atop the hotel, he assumed there would be more things like that, and Aren wanted to hunt them. Doing this should also increase his power and fighting ability.
So with that, Aren decided to set off. He had no idea where he was, so he simply chose a direction and started walking, his adventure into this new world truly beginning.
