Today's the day. The day Grace and I finally move into the prison we will be trapped in for the term. Horizon's University is where I will spend 40 weeks of pure learning and trying to make sure I don't bring shame to my family name. Grace has already managed to find a group of friends, the richer girls at the school. They follow her like a bunch of lost puppies. After a long walk to the back of the school to get to my dorm room, I had managed to bump into three people, stumbled twice over the uneven parts of the path and insult Grace by not carrying one of her many bags for her.
The hike to the third floor was enough to be my workout for the week, the elevators decided the hour before I arrive to cease working. Just my luck. Carrying my two suitcase 4 boxes and two backpacks almost overflowing with things my father and Grace told me I needed to pack. Managing to reach my dorm door before my shoulder broke into many small pieces, I had to search through the deep pockets of my hoodie. I almost shit myself when I feel a soft pat on my shoulder, flinging my head to see the suspect of the fright.
"Myles?!" My voice cracked at the end. He stood in his casual clothes wearing a pair of thin rimmed glasses that catch the light of the hallway. His eyes shone brightly as his eyes met mine. He reached into his own pocket and pulled out a key, it read 'ROOM 57'.
"Hey neighbor, need some help?" his voice was soft with a slight chuckle at the sight of my struggle with my belongings. He reached out a open hand and grabbed my backpack off my right shoulder and flung it over his own. After getting to know each other a bit in the art classroom a couple days before, we found out we had a fair bit in common. Myles, my first friend in this wretched place. I finally found my key in the depths of my pocket. It read 'ROOM 58'. A reminder how lucky I was to get a room not only on a half empty floor but also I'm living right next to Myles. The Gods have heard my prayers.
After many failed attempts at trying to unlock my door with my sweaty, shaking hands, Myles steps in to help... again. First attempt with a click and a squeak of of the hinges he had opened my door without a single fault. How is he real! he moved himself in through the doorway to chock the door back, then returning to the hallway side to help me move my things inside. Not even a two minute job and we had all my belongings scattered in boxes and bags around my room.
"Um so if you need any help unpacking I'm a free. I finished my room already". he let out a slight chuckle that almost made him appear nervous but he shrugged it of with a confident smile. It shocked me that he wanted to help me. He was so kind and handsome. this room's lighting was amazing, it defined all his featured from his perfect jawline to the slight bump in his nose just below where his glasses sat.
"Oh, really? You'd wanna help me? A-are you sure? surely some other people might be wanting to steal you to help them". I also let out a chuckle, except it was extremely obvious I was nervous.
"Yeah of course I'd love to help you unpack. And also, um, not really, the other students and I... we don't necessarily get along..." he shifted his gaze towards the desk that sat beside my glass door, most likely hoping I wouldn't catch on to the fact his eyes that slightly glistened under his glasses. The temptation to just hug him right now was ridiculously high, he'd probably think I'm some weirdo.
"I'm sorry, but sure I'd really appreciate the extra help. My father and fake girlfriend both decided for me that I needed to take my whole room with me, as you can probably guess I was unsuccessful in winning my case". I laughed casually as I make my way to the big suitcase that sat on my bed. I open it to see mounds of my clothes, some folded, some just scrunched into a ball, starting to tumble out of the suitcase and onto my bed. I found it remarkable that I had managed to fit all this.
