Two weeks after departing, Aren was currently fighting a particularly strong Rock Giant. He had named these monsters Rock Giants because of their massive size and of course the fact that they were made out of rock. All of them had varying degrees of strength and size, and this one was one of the most powerful he had encountered so far.
Something he had learned during these weeks, is that the monsters of an area are based on the environment present. In a nature-filled place with trees and plants, there might be monsters completely made of roots, like the first monster he had encountered. He was currently in a large clearing several miles wide, where only rock was present.
Surprisingly, though he had traversed hundreds of miles at this point, the forest showed no signs of completely ending.
The Rock Giant stood at a height of 150 feet tall, and it was surprisingly swift for its size.
It stomped down, fissures appearing everywhere before the ground shot up, throwing Aren into the air. It followed up with a monstrous punch at the boy, but he met it with one of his own, the sound barrier shattering as Aren put everything into it. The inch before their fists met, Aren increased his weight to his new limit: 350 times normal, or 67900 pounds!
The giant’s entire arm up to its shoulder was obliterated, and Aren himself only felt a twinge of pain, barely moving from the collision. He fell to the ground, changing his weight to half of normal. As soon as he hit the ground, he blasted towards a leg of the giant, launching a punch identical to the last.
BOOM!
The giant crashed to the ground, now crippled and unable to defend itself anymore.
Aren finished it off by launching himself hundreds of feet into the air, then increasing his weight by 300 times. He crashed into the monster's head, which turned to dust, subsequently ending its existence.
Aren stumbled a few feet away and let himself fall to the ground, laying and looking up at the sky. Although it wasn’t very hard to actually kill monsters, it always ended up taking a large toll on his mana. Even though everything else about his strength had improved, his mana expenditure had yet to decrease. In fact, it had increased.
Even though Aren was definitely excited to fight these monsters, it was quickly becoming repetitive. There were only three types of monsters in these areas: Rock Giants, Tree Giants, and Root Giants, and they all normally had around the same level of strength. Nothing challenged Aren or posed a threat to him.
Resting for a while longer to replenish his mana, Aren put a small plan into motion that he had just created. He would simply jump as high as he could into the air, and look for things abnormal in appearance.
First, he lowered his weight to a quarter of his normal weight, the lowest it could go to. He lowered down, swinging his arms back. And then he jumped.
BOOOOOOM!
A ten-foot-wide crater appeared, and Aren accelerated to hundreds of miles an hour. In under a minute, he had reached one and a half miles of altitude. As he reached the peak of his height, he quickly scanned the surroundings. At first, he didn’t notice anything, but then his gaze locked onto it.
A humanoid monster of nearly inconceivable proportions, located 100 miles away, Aren estimated. Even at that distance, it somehow still appeared large and he could make out its features. Its body was completely smooth, with a dark grey color. Lines of glowing crimson red ran throughout its body and floating atop its head sat a menacing blood red halo. Its mouth was locked in a permanent grin, showing sharp, pitch-black teeth. Aren wondered what monsters that mouth would even consume, based on the size of the monstrosity itself. Just looking at it even from this distance sent shivers down Aren’s spine.
This creature was like the incarnation of hell itself.
Despite the fear slowly consuming him, Aren’s heart started to beat at an unhealthy speed, anticipation and adrenaline overtaking his fear.
After he had plummeted to the ground, he sprinted as fast as he could, which was about 250 miles per hour.
He drew closer and closer, the earth tremors increasing with every mile he traversed. There was a constant and powerful earthquake within ten miles from the monster, slightly throwing Aren off balance.
He closed in the distance, and the true size of this being hit him. Standing at 3000 feet tall, it reached far up into the sky. It had a spindly build, and its fingers seemed far too long in proportion to its body.
It had clearly been fighting something or someone, but Aren did not see what it was before. Now, he could see that it was actually a girl.
She had bright white hair and skin, seeming almost ethereal. She was relatively short, looking to be around 5’3. Aren noticed that her ears were pointed, so he assumed this was one of the other races.
The girl was actually able to hold off against the giant monster, though she was slowly getting pushed back. It launched a kick at the girl, but surprisingly, the kick came to a grinding halt within a foot of her. The monster's leg seemed to shake as if trying to push through some immovable force. However, with each kick, this mysterious barrier weakened.
As Aren was about to charge in, he heard a monotone voice that was instantly recognizable inside of his head.
