The night is always shining Deep within the recesses of my mind Like a black diamond Undetectable, absorbing all light Or a vast black hole, an anomaly An aberration It lingers… just there, beyond the blinding eclipse of day I wait for it. I m p a t i e n t l y. Day, after day. Wait for the sun to dim and my night to fall and That dazzling brilliance to once again delight my mind With its everpresent blackness 'Cold seeps in when the light disappears' People say it like it's a bad thing Like the cold is somehow unwanted Unwelcomed Uninvited guest… such an uninvited pest… And yet… When summer comes, and the sun is hot All we crave is a cool, cool breeze Or an airconned room or a swimming pool. All we want… is that blessed cold to seep back in and drive away the scorching touch Of the oppressive Sun. All we want… Is what we cast out. All t h e y want… I want the mystery of night The dropping temperatures The dazzling black and its shadows I want it all. I want… I want to see with eyes wide open, the brilliance of the night, the sounds echoing in the darkness, the snapping of twigs as animals scurry about under moonlight and shadow and hush. I want to feel the energy that pulsates within every ticking moment Until that blasted sun comes And their world — the world of Man — wakens And stifles the quiet night with its wretched noise.
