Unwilling Goddess

Chapter 12

Chapter 12

Mar 10, 2022

I followed after Crow & we walked home together. The silence was painful as our shoes hitting the concrete & cars whizzing by were the only sounds we heard between us. "I... I-I'm sorry, I didn't know that was gonna happen." I muttered. "B-But, I had no idea Angie was like that...! I've never seen her do anything like that before &-" "Luna... just... was any of that... what... what is going on?" I gave a deep sigh. "I-I'll explain everything, I swear I will. It's just a bit..." I ran out of words for him. There's silence again as we reach his house. "Does... does this god stuff have to do with what my brother said the other day?" his voice was different for this question; he was fearful. "In a way... yes. Your brother basically saw something that I was convinced was all in my head. I-I didn't know other people could see it. I swear." he gives me a pained smile. "Later Luna." he walks inside his home without looking at me again.

I barely slept that night; everytime I closed my eyes, I saw the hurt in Crow's face & eyes. If I did sleep, it wasn't very restful. Days blurred together & before I knew it, my alarm was going off on a Friday morning; I sat up completely groggy. Glancing at my phone, I saw a message from Demi, saying she'd be home in time to pick me up from school. I gave a small smile to the phone screen & threw on an old hoodie & jeans. I glanced in the mirror to see bags forming under my eyes. Just great. I left home & walked to school; the outside was just too quiet. Few birds were chirping, I saw only a handful of cars on the street. As I thought about it, my whole life as of late had seemed quiet. Even Charlie had been silent for a while; but I needed someone to talk to. The thought of even calling out to Charlie made me sick but... I don't know who else to talk to. "Ok... fine, you win Charlie." I mutter to the wind. There was nothing heard or nothing seen. "Please... I just-" I heard a scream in the air, which sounded like a man straining for freedom. I saw Charlie's ghost like body shot past me, as if he was thrown by something. I ran over to him but froze... he was a grown up; he was unconsious, but was breathing. He was the same man I saw in the car standing on the corner. How was he here? Why was he here? I heard him groan & I ran past him, trying to hurry so he wouldn't know it was me. I began running faster & felt myself rise high into the air, praying that no one else saw me. Thankfully, I got to school without anything else happening. Now school was much louder, but nothing too overwhelming; I was out of breath from using my powers, but no one really seemed to notice. I mindlessly went in to my first class & it seemed to fly by. Same thing happened to my second class; I only really processed my lunch bell. I sat down to eat & had my soul scared out of me by hearing a shout & something slam down in front of me. "THERE YOU ARE!" It was Crow, smiling eagerly at me. The most I've ever seen him do is smirk, so to see a whole hearted, child like smile... it was kind of cute. He sat down & started rummaging around in his backpack, pulling out tons of papers & books.
"I'm glad you're ok!"
"C-Crow...? W-What are you-"
"I've been looking everywhere for you!"
"W-Why-"
"I tried calling you but you didn't answer the phone, but I figured you were having a rough time. Plus, it gave me more time to put all this together."
"Put... what together excactly...?"
"This!"
He motioned to all the papers & books he had pulled out while still digging for more. "O-Ok... so then, what is all this...?" He glanced at everthing he had pulled out of his bag once it was all laid out. There were even foldered stuffed with various papers. "Oh... damn, I did more than I thought. It's research." I was lost, but he continued. "Everything with Angie was real... wasn't it?" I was gonna protest, but nodded instead. "So... I guess while you were, I dunno, sharing memories with me, I realized something. You don't know the God you are. S-So, I tried to find info on all Gods that are similar to you. I thought it would help you out..." I was confused. "Help me out? What are y-" "When I saw what you went through, I could feel what you felt... it was sad & lonely. So, I did this, to try & help you feel a little more whole. The folders are stuff that I got the most concrete info from. I even labled them with the civilization & their king god." he said, sliding everything to me. I felt my eyes water; he did all of that for me, just because he thought I was sad. "W-Woah hey, did I do something? O-Or is it since we're at school? I didn't mea-" I slowly took the large stack of papers & books. "No, no, it's amazing, thank you. I was a bit stunned that you bothered to do any of this... that's sweet of you." he blinked a few times, but chuckled. "No problem." all during lunch, we read while we ate together. Something about the atmosphere we were making together was peaceful, but also focused. "Luna." I jumped at my name. "Yeah?" Crow chuckled. "That's the bell. C'mon." Crow started collecting the papers but I put my hand on his. "Wanna see something cool?" I wishpered. People were focused on leaving, so I wasn't worried about someone seeing me. "Oh, so we're bold now are we?" Crow smirked & I waved my hand over everything; as my hand passed by, papers & books vanished before our eyes. "Woah..." he whispered. "It's all back home with me. I can summon it back if need be." We started walking to the gymnasium where all of his questions came to light.
"I... I can ask you anything right?"
"Honestly, yeah. Just... not too much about the cult. I... I-I don't like to talk about it."
"Can I ask what kind of God they thought you were?"
"Life."
"Do you believe them?"
"Not really. I get why they thought so, but now... I dunno, that title seems off for some reason."
"What can you do?"
"I can create just about anything, I can heal people, minor shapeshifting, some minor reality warping-"
"Reality warping!?!"
"I can make this place look like El Dorado if I wanted. I would cover this whole area in a gold like coating. It won't hurt anyone."
"God..."
"That... yeah, I don't like that. At least, not when it's directed at me."
"Why not?"
"Sometimes it gives me these weird tingles, it's like my skins crawling... it's not super strong but it's awkward."
"Sorry."
"It's ok. Most of the time, I can ignore it."
"So are you a demi god or like full blown deity."
"Full blown deity. I have a human mom & don't know who my dad was though."
"Maybe he was godly?"
"Or I'm a reincarnated god. Or I'm a brand new god-look, I don't know how I know, but I do. I'm a complete god."
"Alright, alright. Sorry."
We finally arrived at the gym & we changed quickly. Our teacher gave Crow & I a once over, which made me wary. "Alright then, now that everyone is here, we can talk about how our midterms are gonna go. Firstly,-" "Psst... over here." I heard a voice from behind me & it worried me. It didn't sound anything like Charlie; it was familiar, but I knew I had never heard that voice before. Unless... "Alright! Come to me with any questions you guys have. For now, you all are free to do whatever. Weight room is unlocked & so is the outside; just pay attention to when the bell rings." the same voice giggled. "What the heck is a weight room?" I turn around to see a shadow right behind me; I blink a few times. It was a child, but with long white hair & a long forked... tail. What... what the hell was I looking at? "We miss you." "Luna?" Crow's touch made me jump. "You good?" I stood up slowly, realizing what I saw. "I... I think someone is trying to find me. & I'm not sure if I want them to."
