Curses all but cloud my mind as class came and went, at least for a minute everything seemed to be normal or as normal as they can be when paranoia comes into play. Derek’s comment stuck to my thoughts like glue as the feet dragged me through the crowd. Before I could react the pungent smell of sex and what I could only guess was weed smacked my nostrils. We=heeling me back a bit as an arm caught my shoulder.
“Well, lookie who I found. How was class nerd? Found anyone to bother yet?”
Groaning I pull Derek’s arm from around my shoulder. Making a mad dash for our room, not the safest place but I could gather my things and find somewhere to hide. Like the library or somewhere out in the courtyard away from prying eyes.
That was the plan, however some malevolent being had other plans for me. Cursing left, right, and center I am suddenly stopped dead in my track’s books falling from arms and pulled backwards by two bodyguard looking men. Besides the school’s jersey on the backs, it’s the only thing that popped in my head as I’m pulled through the courtyard a new voice reached me.
“You’re the Mercer kid, right?”
“Y-yeah?” I respond as the arms that held me dropped just as quickly, barely catching myself as I look to the questioning voice.
“Good, I need you to do something for me.” His hand lands on my shoulder confusing me even more but as I go to open my mouth and ask what in the hell was going on a fist collided against my cheek. Knocking myself and my glasses onto the grass below. The sudden urge to tear the pompous dicks throat out became a tempting offer as he spoke once more. Digging his heel into my back with each word. “Stay on the ground and don’t get up.” After a moment he lifts his foot, squatting down in front of me he grips the back of my collar his breath inches from my ear as he growled out. “There can only be one Alpha in this school, and it damn well isn’t you.” Pulling back a familiar voice interrupts whatever kind of scare tactic he was trying to pull.
“Excuse me boys? But that’s my target to torment you’re messing with.” Out of the corner of my eye Derek strides over, my discarded books against his hips as he holds a near death glare to man.
“What you just say Fuck toy?” One of the stooges steps out in front of him, blocking him from sight, but I could already tell Derek was holding a snarky smile to the comment.
“You heard me, Big, Tall, and Fucking Ugly. That Nerd isn’t yours to mess with.” Stepping back a sharp nail pushes the man to the side. “And really? Fuck toy? Is that the best your pea brain could come up with? I’ve heard worst insults from middle schoolers.” Derek all but drains whatever confidence from the man. Until the hand left my collar to hit the dirt once more. Sitting up my hands search for my glasses.
“You got a bigger mouth than I thought Incubus. Why don’t you keep it shut for me huh?” He steps between his men and Derek as I pull my glasses back on. The soft golden glow of his eyes drawing forth as Derek all but smiles.
“Oh, did I strike a nerve? Some of you wolves have no sense of humor I swear,” The wolf part barely comes out as a whisper as a crowd begun to form around us.
Pushing myself off the ground, my face pulses as I place my hand over where he had struck me. Going to be a nasty bruise later, but now isn’t the time for it. Stepping around the men, I reluctantly stick behind Derek a new sense of shock hitting my face. Derek Shaw, my tormenter, and bane of my living existence just stood up for me. If the gods want to strike me down, they better do it now because this has got to be a dream.
“Jackson Parker, remember it bitch because I’ll make you scream it soon.” The threat sends a fire through my nerves as a growl pulls from my lips.
“OH, I’m so scared!” The sarcasm nearly breaks a smile onto my face as he waves Jackson off. “Not going to happen.”
Jackson with one last look towards me, turns and gathers his bodyguards. Disappearing into the crowd that all but disperse as quickly as they came.
“Now, you owe me Nerd.” He proclaims, fixing the front of my shirt.
“What is it? The sooner we get it done the sooner we can pretend this never happened and you can leave me alone.”
“That dear wolf will never happen.” Gripping the front of my shirt he pulls me through the halls. Speaking as he goes. “Now for the next week I want you too help me with whatever classes I have.” Pulling my collar harder, I almost lose my footing.
Reaching our dorm room in record time he reaches inside his pocket to swipe his card. Pushing the door open Derek releases me and goes straight to his desk grabbing his books and tossing them onto my bed.
“Let’s get started, shall we? ~”
‘Grand today’s just getting weirder and weirder, isn’t it? What else is going to happen?’
Well, speaking of weirder I think I’m losing my mind. Between classes I could have sworn that Derek was following me. Through others eyes it would have looked surely weird, but I know Derek, and this hasn’t even topped the scale. The feeling though wouldn’t go away he’s got to be waiting for something.
Reaching the room after the last class into of the week I swipe my card and step inside. Tossing my shoes into a cubby under my bed the soft sound of snoring catches my attention. Looking over Derek is straight up passed out his books and papers sprawled across his sheets. I have never once seen him study, not in middle or high school. Most of the time he would just wing it and a miracle would have it work in his favor. But right now, it looks like he had just crammed everything in one swift go.
Shaking my head, I start cautiously taking the books and papers off his bed. Dog-earing most of them before realization struck me like a freight train.
‘What in the hell am I doing? Why am I bookmarking his stuff?’
Placing the books on his desk I run my hands over my face pushing my glasses onto the top of my head before letting them drop back down eyes drawing to the window the setting sun sending the elongated shadow over the floor.
‘That’s got to be it. I got to be tired or something.’
Dragging my feet over to the closet, I grab my pajamas. Eyes drawing back over to Derek for a second before yanking my button-up and jeans off. Replacing them with a black tank top and plain grey sweatpants. Placing my hand over my mouth to stifle a yawn I tug myself to bed pulling my glasses off as I take a seat.
This entire first week has been nothing but running around and helping Derek study. Well, that and keeping an eye on that pompous prick that seems to think he has a claim on the school. Falling back onto the mattress, I yank the sheet over my body. I wonder how the rest of the month is going to go.
---
Well, this has been an interesting week. Another pack thinks they can just up and mess with My Wolf this year is going to be more than I bargained for. Hopefully that nerd doesn’t hate me to much… Being an Incubus you got to stick around heavy crowds take their emotions and make it so we can feed.
I never wished to leave him behind like that. Especially the way I did…
With highlighter in hand, my fingers move between each marked note a new sense of boredom making itself known against my mind as I look around the room. Hopefully that nerd gets back soon, can’t wait to mess with him. Maybe make his blood bubble a bit. Smiling at the notion I lay back against the mattress leafing through another book before my eyes grew heavy. Closing my eyes for a minute, I can’t help but let my mind wonder.
A tingle rushing down my spine before the door opens and I go still. Breathing slowly, I crack one lid open to see Newtons back his shoulders tense. Taking a quick glance to the small alarm clock on my nightstand the blaring neon green numbers read 6: 35 PM. Perfect, making a quick mental note to remember that Newton turns towards my bed.
Closing my eye, I hope he hadn’t noticed. Opening my eyes just a crack I can see the exhaustion draping off him like a beacon he shakes his head, and someone better pinch me because I got to be dreaming or he’s just completely out of it. But he fixes some of the pages before a look of realization seems to hit him. Placing the books that he held onto my desk he runs his hands over his face his glasses catching his curly brown chestnut hair.
The bags under his eyes a familiar sight, just as bad as ever. Turning away from me he heads towards the closet pulling out some pajamas before looking back over his shoulder at me. Luckily with the angle he hadn’t noticed my open eye. Pulling his shirt of my heart is all I can hear as it pounded harshly.
‘Well, I can die happy now.’
My brain is going a mile a minute as he changes and moves over to his bed. Pulling his glasses off he falls back into the mattress. Pulling the sheets over himself as the room was taken over by darkness.
‘This is going to be an interesting year indeed. I am anxious on what tomorrow will bring.’
With that, I close my eyes letting my thoughts wonder as sleep tried to take me.
