Someday, 5 months ago.
Jamie dialled Brian’s number when Joseph took a shower. He subconsciously fiddled with his thumb’s cuticle. The more dial tones he heard in his ears, his heart was pounding even faster. The longer the telephone was accepted, the more his stomach churned unpleasantly.
“Hello?” Brian’s appeased voice caught in his ear
“Brian? Umm… I wanted to ask, is perhaps Joseph’s practice for tonight going to end after midnight? Because I have reserved us a table for dinner,” he lied. No dinner reservation whatsoever, he just wanted to ask after curiosity gnawed him since last night when he felt Joseph sneaked up on him, getting inside their bed near the dawn.
“What? No, of course, we’ll be finished around 8. There’s no way I make my team practice until past midnight. It could risk their health. Or are you wanting me to tell Joseph to go home early?” he offered kindly.
So Joseph was never practised until midnight, then why did he have to lie? and what kept him so long till so late?
Dozens of scenarios start to fill Jamie's head; what possibly could happen when his boyfriend has to lie to him?
Insecurity, paranoia and suspicion slowly swarm on his head like buzzing bees; Jamie let them consume him until what is left is nothing more than anxiety.
Jamie shook his head when he realised he was still on the phone. He was too shocked “no please.. it should be a surprise for him” then he lied again, yet Brian seemed convinced and didn’t ask any further.
