Morning came fast and Commander Moon was already out and discussing plans with her campmates. All of them were very nervous but agreed that if tension gets too high, they will evacuate immediately to avoid getting hurt.
"Lostleap and Sparrowclaw will stand beside me in the patrol," Commander Moon meowed. "Trainee Willow, Trainee Fire, and Trainee Cinder will stay in the back with Brightpool and Sheep staying close in front of them." The Trainees gave each other a quick look before nodding.
After discussing plans, the patrol headed with the other members out of camp with everyone waving goodbye. If everything works out smoothly, they could be back home quite early or at least near evening. Since it was so early, barely anyone was up as the only sounds that could be heard were two Pegasus chatting in the sky above them.
Commander Moon kept her eyes peeled as they were crossing by Bird Family territory that barely had trees in case any of the members thought they were attacking. She sighed a relief when they got onto Misty Family territory. It was damper here as the ground was wet like a marshland.
"I think these leaves will best help Smallcloud's bones as he enjoys retirement," a blue tom with an orange patch on his back spoke to a small blue-gray molly.
The blue-gray molly spotted the Moon Family patrol and gave a squeak in which her mentor looked up. "What do you guys want?"
"We want to speak to Commander Gray about an urgent subject," Commander Moon explained. The two Misty Family cats, Waterleaf and Trainee Moon, eyes widened.
"I-I guess he was right about them coming," Waterleaf gave a nervous mew. Trainee Moon huddled close still holding the pine leaves.
Sparrowclaw lowered his ears. "So, is that a no?"
"What? No, I mean, you can come with us," the Doctor meowed and flicked his tail for the cats to follow. Commander Moon could already feel the tension, but she didn't want to back down now.
Her own members were speaking in hushed whispers wondering how Misty Family already knew about their arrival. Commander Moon kept her cool as they made it to the camp. The entrance was made from thorns and guarded by a brown and cream-colored tom and a red tom.
"Hey, it's-"
"Quiet!" Redwing snapped glaring at DJ who closed his mouth and gave the Moon Family members a nervous smile. They let them through without any more questions. Some of the Misty Family cats gasped in shock at seeing the patrol.
Commander Moon looked around wondering why they were scared. She turned her gaze to see Commander Gray with Bluestep and Hawkwing sitting beside him. The sinister look Bluestep gave her made her shiver, so she turned away.
"Mommy, who are those guys?" A gray molly with a yellow star on her forehead mewled.
"They're guests," the mother mewed.
"What brings you here?" Commander Gray sneered.
"We like to ask some questions regarding some things," Commander Moon said calmly. She could've sworn she saw Bluestep look nervous for a sec. "Is there anyone in this camp that is aligned with a Spellcheer named Porphyry?"
Silence fell and Commander Gray came up closer to Commander Moon. "Yes, there is," he hissed. "I'm sure he knows of the crimes he has done."
"Father," Hawkwing growled. "Quiet...don't say anymore."
Commander Gray's ears flattened but he turned to face Commander Moon. "The one you're looking for is Blu-"
In a quick second, a deep slice swiped through Commander Gray’s throat causing him to fall over. Lostleap and Sparrowclaw pulled Commander Moon back when the Misty Family fell over blood flowing out of his wound. Behind him was Bluestep glaring down at his Commander with hatred in his eyes.
"Waterleaf, do something!" Brightpool growled to the blue tom.
Waterleaf stepped forward but shook his head. "I don't think there's anything I can do." With that, three Trainees rushed over to Commander Gray in shrieks of sorrow.
Hawkwing glared at Bluestep. "Why did you kill my father? Don't you see the pain you put my siblings in?"
Bluestep scoffed. "I wasn't going to let him foil others' plans."
Commander Moon flattened her ears. "So, you must be working with Porphyry." Bluestep only gave a sinister smile. She also noticed him smiling at Trainee Fire who was sticking close to Trainee Willow and Trainee Cinder. I forgot Trainee Fire mentioned him in that story.
Hawkwing flicked his tail. "Once I get my lives, you're being exiled!"
Bluestep laughed. "If you think you're leaving, I'll kill you." The cats in camp all gasped. If Hawkwing couldn't get his lives, would others see him as Commander?
Without saying anymore to Bluestep, Hawkwing turned to Commander Moon. "It's best you leave; may we talk again soon about all this." Commander Moon only gave him a sorrowful glance before signaling her Family to follow her.
Now Misty Family is in serious trouble, Commander Moon thought. I wonder if there's anything we can do to help...
