Chapter 4-
Soren
“Because you’re one of my best friends and you’re forever indebted to me. Also you know him.” Cassidy says, flashing her crazy yet angelic eyes at me.
“Fine, who is it?” I roll my eyes but there’s a smile on my face. She gasps dramatically in shock.
“I can’t tell you!”
“What? How am I supposed to help then?” She looks conflicted with a childish pout.
“I’ll tell you after school.” she states after making her decision. I raise an eyebrow but shrug.
“Okay.”
Devon struts up to me at my locker and starts walking with me to our next class.
“Have you talked to Cass yet?” she says immediately, flipping her electric blue box braids over her shoulder.
“Yeah.”
“And it went…well?” she inquires.
“Yeah, I’m gonna meet her after school.”
“Oh my god! Really? That makes me so happy! She really likes you!”
Oh.
“So are you two dating yet or…” she pushes, leading us both into the classroom where Robbie was already waiting, slouched in a chair.
Devon sits in front of the two desks and I sit down into the chair next to Robbie. Before I can tell Devon that was the first time that I had heard that I was Cassidy’s crush, she turns around to face us and tells Robbie.
“Cassie and Soren are dating.” she blurts in an excited voice.
“Wait-” apparently no one hears me though.
“Nice one dude!” he slaps me hard on the shoulder,
“Though you could get any bitch you want without tryin.’” he laughs.
Devon rolls her eyes and turns to the front, I also cringe at his sentence.
I know I need to let Cass explain herself before I think anything, what Devon said might not be true and I need to listen to Cassie first.
Cassidy is waiting by my car, looking nervous as hell. The afternoon reflects off the car and illuminates her green eyes and makes her blonde hair glow. She looks really pretty as she bites at her nails before spotting me, her cheeks turn a cute shade of pink as I approach. I lean against the warm metal of my car and start to explain what the others said before she can say anything, I feel like it should get out of the way first.
“Cass, I’m really sorry but Devon told me that I was the one you had a crush on and thinks we’re dating now and I know you didn’t want this to happen. Sorry I know you wanted to talk to me but I had to tell you first.”I blurt out.
She laughs a little and shakes her head at the ground.
“This is so much more of a mess than I expected but that’s fine. I do like you, but it is totally fine if you don’t like me back and I hope we can still be friends.” She smiles sheepishly and then realizes something.
“Oh! Unless… you do wanna go out with me?” I let out a small laugh, her awkwardness about this situation was endearing.
I think I do like her, we’ve been really close friends and feel really comfortable with each other. And she’s really great; I love her eccentric personality and she’s always a lot of fun but also caring.
“Yeah.” I answer, looking towards her, shock plastered over her features before a bright smile breaks through and lights up her face.
“Really? Like no joke?” she asks. Excitement lacing the questions. I nod my head, feeling like her joy’s contagious.
“So what happened with Devon exactly?”
“Oh god, okay…”
Matt
Walking back into school would be a nightmare if I actually cared what other people thought of me. Peoples eyes followed me in the halls, everyone keeping their distance and the unmistakable sound of whispers floated around every corner.
My first class had to be one with Soren of course, and one where my assigned seat is right next to him.
I sink into the seat, praying that he doesn’t talk to me, he’s quiet for a bit but does speak up hesitantly.
“Why?” he’s not even look at me. Alright if he wants to ask me and give me a chance to explain myself, I’m going to take that chance.
“You’re ‘friends’ aren’t what you think, they take enjoyment in tormenting and bullying younger or kids who are ‘different’. They were literally beating a kid to a pulp when I got there and they decided to pick a fight they couldn’t win.”
I’m kind of angry that no one will believe me, the three are loved and everyone hates me. At least I tried to tell the truth to someone. The person in question was looking at me confused.
“You’re trying to tell me that Robbie, Mike and Bruce are… bullies? And you think I'm gullible enough to believe you?” I grunt and turn to the front. Why do I even bother?
But Soren wasn’t done.
“What is wrong with you?” his voice barely above a whisper.
I can feel rage boil inside of me and I can’t stop myself from yelling.
“I did nothing wrong!”
Soren’s eyes are squeezed shut and he’s retreated back as far as he can. Genuinely terrified. The teacher was quick to kick me out of the class and head to the principal's office, again.
Soren being scared of me didn’t feel as satisfying anymore.
