Aren and Lillia may have had very limited knowledge of the world, but they were certain nothing like this existed on Earth, at least before the descent of mana.
They couldn’t help but feel there was something more, much larger than what they previously thought about this new Earth.
“Should we go take a look then?”
“Mhm. But since you’re a demon, I’m not sure how the people will react.”
“Well, We’ll see.”
The two began walking towards the gate of the city, which was still about twenty miles away.
They didn’t cover this distance as fast as they could, trying to avoid drawing unnecessary attention to themselves. The closer they got, the more amount of people were around. The road became much wider, and several carriages were heading towards the city. Strange glances were cast at the pair, but they were undisturbed for the most part.
Eventually, they reached a long line of people and horse-drawn carriages waiting to enter the city. When they reached the front, the guards appeared surprised to see them, but simply checked Aren and Lillia for weapons before waving them through.
The streets were filled with crowds of people, constantly moving. Stalls full of food, jewelry, and other trinkets lined the streets. The aroma of many different types of food reached their noses, making their mouths water. Unfortunately, they didn’t have any money to indulge in any of this.
There also wasn’t the presence of any sort of technology or any type of modern equipment. Horses and carriages were common, and the buildings were mostly made of wood and rough stone.
Walking around aimlessly for a while, Aren and Lillia simply enjoyed the atmosphere and sights. They had never been around this amount of people at once in their lives, so it was very interesting to them.
It also appeared as if in this area nobody noticed that the two were a demon and elf. Aren did notice several groups of slaves chained together, mostly demons and elves. Looking at their sorry state, he could see why the man before had wanted to capture and sell them.
Aren noticed that the people around had gotten slightly quieter, but he didn’t think much of it until he bumped into someone, hard.
“Sorry.” He said dismissively, not even looking at who he had bumped, continuing to walk away.
However, a strong hand clamped down on his shoulder, and he finally looked back.
The person that he bumped into was a young man, dressed in fancy clothing. He was flanked by two guards, each was geared in light red armor. One of which had his hand on Aren’s shoulder.
“What?” He questioned.
“I would advise you to show a bit more respect towards the heir of the Blazitor family, boy.”
“Who? Whatever, I already said sorry.” Aren responded sharply, shrugging the man’s hand off and continuing on his way.
“Hold it! Where do you think you’re going?”
The young man finally spoke, shouting at Aren, who turned around once again and looked at the boy who was slightly younger than himself.
“I should have you and your little elf friend thrown into the dungeons to rot right at this moment, however, I’ll give you one last chance.”
Aren was perplexed. Why were these people acting so bothersome?
‘I guess their family is important or something. Not that I care anyway.’ He thought to himself.
“Oh, great one…please grant this foolish peasant mercy…” he said in an overly sarcastic voice, amused by the behavior that seemed absurd to him.
Veins on the young man’s forehead bulged, and he slightly reddened.
“If you get on your knees and plead…I’ll consider letting you off…just this once.” he said through clenched teeth.
The two guards went behind Aren and attempted to push him down onto his knees. This set him off, and he increased the gravity as far as he could without completely crushing them, and although the guards were quite a bit more powerful than him, they had no chance of resisting. They and the boy fell to their knees, struggling to breathe under the weight.
“Aren stop, it’s not that big of a deal.” Lillia said.
But at that point, it was too late, and two dozen city guards surrounded him. With each of them being very powerful, even he could not resist as they clamped down on his and Lillia’s arms.
The elf girl let out an exasperated sigh.
‘Now let’s see what his short temper managed to get us into…’
“How dare you!” the young man sputtered as soon as he could breathe, the gravity having been lifted.
“Guards! Throw them into the dungeon, and I’ll deal with them later.” He spun around haughtily after sending a piercing glare towards the two.
They were escorted by the guards for a few miles, eventually arriving at a large entrance that led down a long flight of stairs. The hallway at the bottom was damp, with moss growing all over the cracked walls. Arriving at a row of cells with bars of metal that Aren could tell he wouldn’t be able to break, they were both tossed into one.
Sitting on the bloodstained and cracked floor, Lillia was the first to speak.
“Aren, look what you got us into. The first day in a city that we have no knowledge of, and you managed to get us imprisoned!”
“It was his fault though!” He argued.
Lillia rolled her eyes at him before turning away and waiting for whatever came next.
After what seemed like hours, there was finally the sound of a key turning in a lock. Lillia had refused to talk to him during that time.
“You’re free to go, don’t cause any more problems.” The guard’s gruff voice spoke.
They could see the boy who had them imprisoned fuming nearby.
“The man who freed you is waiting by the entrance. Now get out.”
