At age twelve, Clarisse James started training as a magic tracer for the Avairne government. She learned to feel the nuances of magic and use them to track down criminals, solve murders, and find missing people. At 25, she was one of the most respected tracers in her nation, known for her drive and loyalty, and considering proposing to her girlfriend.

Now, at 34, Claire’s a traitor to her country, living in an enemy nation, working for an unknown detective agency, and her only friend is Birch, a mercurial fellow ex-pat. She needs to learn to work with her eccentric new team while also dealing with the fallout of her sedition.
