To Be King (Book 1)

Chapter Six

Chapter Six

Jan 28, 2022

Alissa Moore's Point of View:

With a deep breath, I slowly placed one foot outside of the vehicle and scooted closer to the exit. I smiled gratefully at Jacob as he held out his hand to help me out of the car. I stood and took a total of four steps and stood still as the paparazzi went off. They began taking pictures of me and I posed for some of them who I recognized. They really are out here traveling to take pictures of someone.

Being my father's daughter I was used to being under the watchful eye of the media and the paparazzi have become an unwelcome part of my life. I beamed at my sister as she came out of the car to stand beside me. She had already posed for the cameras and now we took pictures together. I was so glad that she was here.

I admired my sister as she looked flawless in her red floor-length dress. Her hair was swept to the side in elegant curls and she looked beautiful. I raised my brow as I saw Jacob staring at her. He would be our plus one as Dom wouldn't allow us to go without him. John was back at the hotel if we needed him.

We began to make our way up the grand steps of the palace as we ignored the questions that were being directed at us. I kept my head straight ahead as I tried to calm myself. I can't believe I flew all this way to see a guy that I only met once. I must be going crazy but for some reason, I couldn't get him off my mind. It's like he cast some sort of spell on me where I became completely enamored by him. Well, I'm definitely going crazy.

Walking into the hallway I gasped at the magnificent large doors. It was gold with intricate and dazzling designs. It was beautiful here.

"I can't believe I'm here," I whispered to Bri in excitement.

"Believe it sis and now let's find your prince charming"

She moved in front of me and was just about to instruct the guards standing by the gate to open them.

"Wait!" I panicked facing Bri and Jacob "what if he doesn't like me or the dress I chose?"

I had my hair in bouncy curls that framed my face. My dress was of a deep royal blue that was cinched in at the waist and flared out in lengthy blue ruffles that trailed behind me as I walked. Rhinestones decorated the waistband of the dress and complimented the teardrop necklace that my father had gifted me on my birthday. I had on natural makeup with a dramatic eyeshadow to highlight the blue of my eyes. I thought I looked okay but would Rafael think so?

"Don't you dare say that," Bri hissed at me "you look absolutely stunning and Rafael would be lucky to have you, now woman up and let's go"

I smiled shakily at her as I gained a little more confidence in myself with her encouraging words. She really was the best sister and always knew the right thing to say. I'm glad I brought her along with me. I nodded to the guards who immediately opened the door.

A big smile made its way on my face as I looked at the sight before me. Over a hundred people were there. All of them dressed impeccably. My eyes moved across the room and that's when I spotted it. The long table was filled with food. This was truly what is meant by eating buffet style.

Chairs and tables were organized neatly to the side so that persons could sit and rest after engaging in a tiring dance. I looked up to see two thrones at the other side of the room. Both of them were situated on a raised platform with steps leading up to it. That must be where the king and queen would sit when they arrived.

The bigger throne was of a solid gold color while the smaller throne was decorated in variations of gold and bronze. The thrones were fit for a king and a queen. My eyes continued to wander and then suddenly I saw him. My eyes widen as I looked at him, memorizing his features. He was dressed in royal attire which was confusing the hell out of me. Why was he dressed like that?

Behind him stood a man and woman with crowns on their heads. It was obvious that they were the monarchs, the king, and the queen of France. But what was Rafael doing standing with them? Did he know them somehow? My heart did a flip when his wandering eyes met mine.

He smiled brightly at me, earning a soft and confused smile in return. I think he picked up on my confused state as he scratched his head nervously. His head snapped to the side as the King spoke to him in a quick and hushed voice. Rafael slyly rolled his eyes and turned to face me once again.

I looked around me and suddenly became confusing as to how I reached the center of the room. I didn't even realize that I was moving.

A trumpet suddenly made a series of notes which was followed by complete silence as everyone in the room became quiet. A tall middle-aged gentleman walked up and over to the side of the thrones and took a microphone from the organizers of this event.

He tapped his hand lightly on the microphone to ensure that it was working and then he spoke, "Good evening ladies and Gentlemen, and welcome to the King and Queen's annual ball here in France"

I clapped along with everyone as we listened to him go on about the origin of the ball and why it became a tradition. At that time Jacob and Bri came to stand beside me.

"And now without further ado let's welcome King Francis, Queen Rosalie, and Prince Rafael"

My eyes widened at that and I heard Bri gasp beside me.

He really was a prince.
