I've lost my bairn to the sea

I've lost my bairn to the kelpies

Why did my child leave?

He waded deep into the ocean

Took a breath

Dove away from the land,

All he left was his necklace

And his trailing footprints in the sand.

Now I wait every year to see him,

Weave him tartan

Leave drinks strong and sweet,

I stay up all night to see him,

I hope his new family I meet.

I've met with the ocean and kelpies,

Made peace with the waves and the beach,

My bairn is safe, and he's happy,

Cradled and living in sea.
