Everything black must have a bit of other colors mixed in. This applies both to colors and auras.
"Theo, may I ask you a question?"
I looked up at the man in front of me. "What the hell do you want?"
He smiled thinly. "I was just going to ask a question, there's no need to be rude."
I had every right to be rude. He had kidnapped me. His heart and soul were pure black. The only other colors mixed in were green, red, pink, and purple. Envy, hate, lust, and fear.
"What?" I responded, scowlng.
The man smiled sweetly, an expression that made me feel like being doused in ice water. "Last Choosing.. why did you pick that kid? Why not me? I would surely be the better option." he said, annoyance and anger creeping into his voice.
'Because you're a callous bastard whose only interest is making sure you look like a saint.'
Is what I wanted to say.
"I don't choose. The universe chooses for me." I said instead, looking away. It wasn't a lie, but there was some concious desicion involved in the Choosing. Half a lie.
He was silent for a moment. I could feel the malice radiating from his body in waves. "Well. There's no reason to think about it now. He's dead and you will have another chance to choose a more... suitable mage." he said, walking closer. I moved back.
The man kneeled down, looking me in the eyes. "Make the same mistake this time, and you won't have another. Do you understand?" he said firmly.
If I could punch him I would. My hand twitched in the magic chains that were around my wrists. "Very well." I said, returning his gaze. It felt like someone was crushing my arms, breaking the bones one by one. I tried to bite back a scream and blinked away tears.
The feeling faded as the man stood with a smile. He brushed himself off, leaving little bits of used magic on the ground in front of me. "I do hope you keep your promise, Theodore. I love you." he said as he walked out of the room.
I would never choose him. And that was exactly the thing that was going to get me killed.
Mage apprentice Yuka cannot stand having to stay inside, even if it is for his own safety. His aura rivals that of an Ancient level dragon, and therefore makes him a direct target for monsters and mages alike.
After years of avoiding it, Yuka and his master, Aliki, leave their home for the Familiar Choosing, an annual event where Apprentice Mages get their Familiars. But when something goes wrong at the Choosing, Yuka gets stuck with the responsibility of returning the Core Gems, the main sources of magic, and a Familiar he didn’t even want nor like.
