Therapy session
Mr. Dias: “Ethan I’m going to start asking you more personal questions now. Just want to give a heads up.”
Ethan nods, preparing himself for questions that may trigger him in any way.
Mr. Dias: “Who do you live with ?”
Ethan: “My mum”
Mr. Dias: “What about your dad ?”
Ethan: “He passed away”
Mr. Dias stops for a second, looks up from his notebook “I’m sorry” Ethan just gives him a weak smile, trying to stay strong but he’s not holding up too well.
Mr. Dias: “What’s your home life like ? Are you and your mum close ?”
Ethan just stays silent, remaining silent for some time. Mr. Dias was about to ask a different question when Ethan bet him to it and answered “No. we don’t really get along well, so home life isn’t nice”
Mr. Dias is shocked but also happy that he actually answered the question. “Why don’t you get along ?”
Ethan: “It’s….complicated”
Mr. Dias: “So you guys fight a lot ?”
Ethan just nods, avoiding eye contact and looks at the ground, nervously playing with his hands.
Mr. Dias now closes his notebook and starts some small talk, about previous subjects he knew Ethan enjoyed talking about. This was to lighten the mood but also not to push Ethan too much. It’s amazing progress that he opened up about some stuff with his family life and he didn’t want to ask too much all in one day.
Mr. Dias: “Well, that’ll be time for this session to end. Oh and here”
He hands Ethan a note with a number on it.
Mr. Dias: “If you ever get into a fight with your mum and feel like talking about it you can contact me. Whether you phone or text I don’t mind. Also, it may sound weird but you don’t have to talk to me just about your fight. If you just feel lonely and want someone to talk to, you can contact me”
