Thump thump thump. My heart is pounding as I sprint through the jungle, weaving through the trees. My wing lies disfigured, limp at my side. If only I could fly out of here; I could go back to my nest and everything would be fine. At this point, my feet are bleeding and I realize that running through the jungle on foot makes the ground incredibly dangerous for a Barn Owl like me.
I stop to catch my breath and examine my wing. The bone is definitely broken, but the feathers seem to be somewhat intact. Thank the gods for that. I need to find a place to hide before they find me again. Mother taught me how to make a nest when I was little, so it shouldn't be too hard to do now...on the ground...by myself...with the Wingless chasing after me... NO, I can't think like that. I am going to make it back to The City, if it's the last thing I do.
I start collecting twigs, leaves, and anything else I can use to make my nest. I get to work fast and it takes me a couple minutes to get the first wall made. I'm making good progress, I might actually finish before they find me. I look around and spot a tree with a low enough branch for me to climb to without damaging my wing any further. I drag my beginnings of a nest over to it. With an armful of twigs, I start climbing up the tree. Up, up, up I go...I'm almost there...SNAP! The branch falls from under me and I'm falling through the air with it. Instinctively I throw out my wings to balance myself and a terrible crack comes from my broken wing. I hit the ground with a thump then....black.
Hey there, this is the first episode of Part 1. This story is a work in progress, and I'm still working on my writing style. Character sheets will be starting to trickle in with the next few episodes because this is a very complex story. Thank you!
An avian falls from his nest in "The City". This story follows Finn and the other avians he meets in his quest to get back home. Buckle up folks, there's gonna be a lot of drama ahead.
