With that I closed my eyes and took a nap. As time flew by I was awakened by a loud thud. I jolted up from the couch only to see Noel placing down a heavy box inside. The baby scooped up with one of his arms. I sat up and as soon as the tiny baby creature noticed me, she gurgled and screamed for me.
“Ok…I take back what I said before. She’s definitely attached.”
The little creature glowed as she made cute little gurgling noises. Not even the most stern person in the world could resist such a cutie. Noel slowly gave her to me when I was finally sitting up on the couch. I held her in my arms and glanced at the paper bag she had over her head.
‘Was it genetic?’
‘Did she somehow manage to grab the bag and place it onto her head?’
Multiple thoughts raced through my brain until suddenly, one of them stuck out the most.
‘What should we name her?’
I glanced over at Noel who was too busy setting up a crib and playpen. He was ready for parenthood more than I thought he was. I averted my eyes back down towards the baby and glanced at her features and decided to come to a conclusion.
“Let’s name her Loonai, the name of our late daughter…”
Noel dropped everything he was holding and just stared at me with a very shocked expression. I asked him what was wrong and he just stood there, staring at me.
“What do you mean our late daughter? Yurina, were you pregnant? Did you lose the baby?”
I sighed. I knew this was going to happen so I might as well get this out of the way before it causes problems within our future missions.
“Listen Noel, you may want to sit down for this. Last year when you and I did the deed, I soon found out that I was pregnant, yet when I finally had the courage to tell you, we got called into a mission. I tried to call out of it but I was dragged against my will towards the scene. The people we were supposed to capture kicked me down a hill and I ended up slamming my stomach against a tree’s trunk. Losing the baby. Losing our baby. As time went on I decided to just forget about it and tell you when the time was right but eventually I forgot. I’m sorry Noel.”
Noel broke down into tears as he walked over towards me and hugged me tightly. That one simple hug triggered my own tears, causing us both to cry. I knew Loonai was growing uncomfortable from us crying due to the noises she was making so I sat Noel next to me and we both looked at Loonai, causing her to look at us, even though the paper bag was still on her head I knew her eyes were focused on us.
“I guess she’s not a huge fan of tears,” Noel said as he wiped his tears away with the back of his hands.
I chuckled from Noel’s little sadness breaker. Loonai’s little hands grabbed onto my own hand as she tried to bite on my hand which was failing for her due to the bag on her head. She grew frustrated and soon began to cry. I’m guessing she’s finally hungry. Noel rushed out towards the kitchen before returning with a baby bottle filled with baby formula and milk. He shook the heated bottle and gave it to me. I gladly took it and tried to give it to Loonai but the bag was blocking the way. Loonai’s crying got louder as her stomach made a tiny rumble. I tried to take off the bag to feed her but Noel stopped me, I gently passed her over to him in which he took out a small pair of scissors from his side pocket. He carefully cut out a cat mouth which soon turned out to be a fold, you could open the mouth and close it. He gave Loonai back to me which in result resulted in me opening the cat mouth fold and praying Noel cut it right. I placed the baby bottle into the mouth and Loonai’s crying came to a quick stop. I sighed out of relief as I held onto the bottle. I smiled brightly from the scene and rested my head onto Noel’s shoulder, who was already tuckered out from everything. I pressed my lips together as another line of thoughts played into my head. I was so deep in thought that I didn’t notice that Loonai had finished her bottle. Well I didn’t notice until she fucking lauched it at the side of my head. The impact snapped me out of my thoughts as I began to try and get her to burp which she successfully did. As I held her, Noel decided to take a picture of the baby throwing her bottle at me so it could be a ‘memory’. I rolled my eyes once I saw him take out his phone and open the camera app. He held the camera high and when I smiled while holding Loonai, he smiled as well and snapped the picture.
I look back to that picture of our little girl and those days I missed dearly because now…
Loonai has officially gained a mind…
My little girl was no longer so little anymore, eight years flew by like a flash bang and Loonai was more active and out. She still had the bag on her head, it never left her head as she aged even though she would change the bag every now and then. She was taller now, four feet to be exact. Her hair grew past her behind but Noel and I always kept it up. Her skin was still two shades of green, her paw-like feet grew, her claw-like nails also grew longer which resulted in multiple trips to the ER, and her animal characteristics grew along with her. Her bunny ears were laid flat against her head yet only perked up when she knew we were going out on missions or just coming home. Her fluffy cat tail is amazing and all but cleaning up the fur is no fun whatsoever. So Noel and I have a machine to do it for us, even though Loonai hates the damn thing and nearly tries to obliterate it whenever she can, the little thing gets the job done. Her little powers from before became more stable and she possesses a few of our natural elements which we have under control. Loonai is honestly our little ball of sunshine, she’s athletic, energetic, funny, artistic, intelligent, and kind. Yet this is one thing our little girl can’t do. She can’t speak English. Trust me, I was shocked enough when she started speaking as if she was in rewind but that’s just how she talks. Turns out that she can understand us and try to reply to us but we’re the ones that can’t understand her. The only things she knows in English are her name, our names, outside, food, water, chicken, beef, fries, salad, tv, fridge, toilet, bathroom, and the damn alphabet with numbers. Noel and I have tried to get her to learn more and no matter how smart she is, she just can’t speak a hint of English fully. Well, it doesn't matter because she’s our little Loonai and that just makes her special in her own way.
“Loonai come downstairs! We’re getting ready to go!”
I heard loud crashes and thuds coming from Loonai, room before fast feet movement coming down the stairs. Loonai zoomed past me as she tried to get herself some breakfast and herself ready.
“Mom! Su fan her tuy han gu yer san frelo poi no nau ha!?” (Mom! Why didn’t you wake me up when my alarm went off!?)
I knew Loonai was lecturing me for not waking her up when her alarm went off but she can’t expect me to always wake her up when we have to head to base or as I like to say, the S.F.F.C. Loonai rushed back up the stairs and quickly came back down the stairs dressed in black hoodie, gray sweats, and her usual paper bag. She placed her duffle bag onto her shoulder before meeting Noel and I at the door. She held my hand before following me out the door, leaving Noel to close the door behind us. He soon caught up with us and we all began to walk towards the elevator that led towards our base. Everyone grew fond of Loonai after the years that have passed despite her knocking out the power at the base for a whole month situation. The all were shocked at first and the bomber twins were both still being two jackasses but I didn’t really pay them no mind. As we stepped into the elevator, Marathon, her wife Mirin, and their daughter Euthea, stepped in as well. Loonai hid behind me as she glanced at Euthea. The two of them aren’t very fond of each other, Euthea has a very rude choice of wording and since Loonai can’t speak English, she just gets laughed at by Euthea because of it. Marathon flashed an apologetic smile while her wife just stared at Noel. She was giving off a look that said, ‘Handle your child before I do.’ Noel glared at her before rolling his eyes, The elevator door closed and we were soon shot up the elevator floors. Loonai covered her ears due to her being sensitive towards certain sounds, which resulted in me covering her ears with my own hands.
The elevator door soon opened and that’s when we all rushed out of the elevator as if we were all racing each other. Marathon’s family wasn't the nicest when they found out about Loonai because Marathon would only talk about Loonai for hours and her own family eventually grew sick and tired of Loonai. I moved my hands from Loonai’s ears which I think set her inner thoughts out. I may not speak alien but I do know when my daughter is upset.
“SU FAH NAT YI NIN KAH GNAF LOI NIR ZAN FU ER BAL QUA!” (THAT OVERLY TALL TEEN IS NOTHING BUT TROUBLE AND SHE’S ANNOYING!)
I gently pressed a hand onto Loonai’s bag, which caused her to calm down. She turned around towards me and pressed her face into my stomach. I gave her a big hug before kissing the top of her bag. That may sound weird but Loonai still felt the affection judging from how fast her tail was wagging. I scooped her up and jogged over towards Noel who was already heading towards the conference room. Once we got in I saw my team or as the base liked to address us as, Team K.B.D. I never found out what the meaning of those letters meant but I paid them little to no attention. As I sat down I glanced at my team member. Natil and Natilia, the bombing twins, Lethia, our sniper and shy girl, Curis, he’s our brawler and shit talker, Marathon, our scientist and main shit talker, Jirnin, he’s our quiet gunner and peacekeeper, Noel, our leader and my lover, Nate, she’s our get away driver, Kylrin, he’s our gadget designer and my best friend, and lastly, Loonai, our last option and my daughter, well Noel and I’s daughter.
“What's the mission or issue this time chief?” Curis asked as he began to paint his nails, which caught Loonai’s attention.
“Alright team I have some news, I got a letter from the big guns that we’re needed in the Bahamas to stop a huge drug deal that is planning to be made by our natural enemy, The C.D.R. I need you all to be vigilant and on your best behavior. Which means no hookup, yeah I’m talking about you Nate and Curis. Now, for this to work out, we all have to act as if we’re tourists and enjoy our trip to the amazing island but as soon as night falls, we’ll be ready to go. I had the staff already go prepare clothes and everything needed for us. We will be in the Bahamas for a good two weeks so don’t get your asses caught! Meeting over any final things you think you may need then please go get them from now, we leave in an hour!”
With that, everyone dispersed except for Nate and Curis. Noel glided himself towards the two before resting a hand onto both of their shoulders which caused the two to raise their middle fingers towards Noel.
“Listen here you walking sex god! Nate and I can hook up with whoever, okay?! We don’t need you to be a fucking dad, do that shit with your own kid. Nate and I are only twenty one, let us live a little!”
Curis stood up after he spoke which surprised me because normally anyone who disrespected Noel ended up tackled and held down by Loonai. I turned towards her and noticed she was just facing Curis, who was now looking at her. After long minutes of uncomfortable staring, Curis and Nate apologized before taking off. Loonai got up from her chair before launching herself at me.
“Mom, ful nah hi?” (Mom, when are we leaving?)
I sighed before rubbing Loonai’s ears. I wish I could understand her a bit more so I could at least answer her. I leaned back in my chair before sighing, which synced with Noel’s.
“Teenagers these days, they swear that they fucking know everything and can just chest up to anyone..”
“Noel calm down, we were all like that before, now come on. We have a plane to catch! Bahamas here we come!” I shouted before scooping Loonai up, rushing out of the conference room with her in my arms.
After over packing things Loonai may need, we finally got our asses onto the fucking private plane. I sat in the four seater along with Loonai, Noel, and Lethia. I buckled Loonai in before buckling myself in, watching her try and fight the damn seatbelt. Lethia stared at Loonai, her curly light mint hair covering parts of her eyes. Lethia, despite being quiet, was honestly in love with Loonai and her joyful personality. For the years I’ve been working with Lethia, I’ve never seen her smile until today, and she was smiling at Loonai fighting a damn seat belt.
“Loonai leave the seat belt alone,” Noel said as he gently grabbed the side of the bag, grabbing the side of Loonai’s face before shaking the bag in his hands.
Loonai screamed loudly out of excitement but anyone that wasn’t knowing about her screams would’ve thought Noel was fucking beating her with a table or something. I covered my face with the brochure as the flight attendant looked my way.
“This is going to be a looooong flight…”
I closed my eyes and took a nap, trying to mute out the sound of my own daughter screaming like someone gorilla smacked her.
