I waited in the parking lot for Felix to come back from the locker room. As I was waiting the cheerleader that was talking to Felix was walking towards me. She was now changed out of her uniform and into regular clothes. Her forced smile was gone and she was glaring at me.
“Hey Kelsey,” I said.
“Who the hell do you think you are getting in between Felix and me,” She said.
“What are you talking about?” I said
“Oh don't play dumb you’re trying to get close to Felix and I don't know turn him gay.
“Listen you can’t turn someone gay and Felix and I are just friend's okay,” I said. I was starting to get angry. Why can’t I convince her that we are just friends. Though it might be funny to see her if I tell her Felix kissed me. It would be funny but it would probably cause more problems.
“Yeah sure he first gives you his jersey and now he's taking you to his house, please. I don’t need you lying about your relationship with Felix to me. I know you like but guess what because he will never like you that way,” She said.
“We are just friends, okay and I’m only going to his house to work on a science project.,” I said. I started to get really annoyed by this girl.
“I will just tell you this once. Don’t get too close to Felix because if you do. I will make this year a living hell for you,” She said.
She then walked away. What the hell is her problem I thought. After my not-so-pleasant interaction with Kelsey Felix was walking towards me.
“Hey Trevor you all good,” He said.
“Yeah, I’m fine let’s get going,” I said.
“ Alright let's head to my house,” Felix said.
We got into his black pickup. We drove to his house. When we got to his house I was amazed by it. It was a big modern Victorian house. It had tan siding. With a white picket fence. Compared to the small house my family moved into, this place was almost like a mansion.
“Hey, I'm home and I brought a friend so everyone better behave,” Felix yelled.
His home was just as nice on the inside as it was on the outside. The living room was huge. It was like some house from a sitcom. There is a black leather couch, a recliner, a glass coffee table, a huge tv, and a fireplace with a big family photo hanging on the wall above. The whole room was giving off a loving family vibe.
“Why do we have to behave if you brought Darren or Jackson over. They know how rowdy we can be so what's the problem? Or is it because you brought a girl,” A boy sitting on a couch said
“Shut up it's not a girl. I brought over a new friend from school, and I don’t want you guys scaring him off,” He said
“Sorry about him Trevor, that's my little brother Tyler. You can just ignore him,” Felix said.
“Felix Felix,” a high-pitched voice yelled. As a little girl ran into the living room running to Felix. He picked her up. She looked like a doll compared to him. Tony, this is my little sister Maggy.
“Hi,” I said.
“Hi, I’m Maggy. What's your favorite color? mine’s pink. You smell nice. All the other boys Felix brings over are stinky. Why are you so small? The other boys are like giants, but you are tiny,” The little girl said
Felix laughed at her comment about my height. I elbowed him in the got and shot him a look that told him to stop laughing at my height.
A woman walked out of the kitchen. “Maggy honey leave the poor boy alone. He can’t answer all your questions at once. Hello, there dear. I’m Felix’s mother. You can call me Mrs.Claytons,” The woman said
“Hi I’m Trevor it’s nice to meet you. Sorry for coming unannounced,” I said.
“Oh sweetie, there is no need to apologize. Any friend of Felix is welcome here. Are you going to be staying for dinner dear I made fried chicken, Mrs. Claytons said.
“Um, I don’t know. I don’t want to impose,” I said.
“Oh, please it’s no problem at all. Call your parents and tell them you're having dinner at a friend's house,” She said.
“Home Cooked fried chicken you say. Well, how can I refuse?” I said I went to the and called my mom. The phone ringed a bit before going to voice-mail
“Hey mom I'm going to have dinner at a friend's house,” I said.
I walked back to the dining room where they were waiting for me. My mom said that I can stay for dinner,” I said.
“Good, it will be ready in a few minutes. So Felix why don't you show Trevor to your room and I will call you boys when supper is ready,” Ok sure thing mom come on Tony let's go. He led me up the stairs to his room. His room was just what I expected pictures of athletes on the wall, trophies, and medals on his dresser, a TV, and a game console. What I didn't expect was how messy it was. He had dirty clothes all over the floor. His bed was a mess. It was definitely a room of a teenage boy.
Sorry about the mess if I knew I would have someone over I would have picked up a little bit,” He said starting to pick up his dirty laundry and putting in a laundry hamper.
“It's fine other than the dirty socks and underwear on the floor your room is pretty cool. Frankly, You know I didn’t think of you as a briefs guy,” I said. Pointing to the pair of red briefs on the floor. I looked at Felix. His face turned as red as his underwear.
He rushed and picked up most of the clothes and quickly made his bed. “Really I wasn’t planning on having anyone over today. That’s why my room mess,” He said. We worked on the project for about thirty minutes and then Felix’s mom called us down for dinner. I sat at the table next to Felix.
“Trevor honey don't be nervous there is plenty of food so please help yourself,” Mrs. Claytons said.
“Okay sorry, my family doesn't really do family dinners like this anymore,” I said
“Don't you have dinner with your parents?” Felix asked.
“I used to but things happened a year ago and we just stopped. It's whatever you know I'm fine with it,” I said.
“Oh, honey that is something you should not be fine with. Families are supposed to spend time with each other. So come on fill your plate tonight you can be a part of our family,” Mrs. Claytons said.
“Thank you that's you real kind,” I said. I filled my plate with a piece of chicken, corn, mashed potatoes, and a piece of cornbread. I took a bite of the chicken and it was so good the breading was real crispy but the meat was really juicy.
“Wow this is really good, ” I said my mouth full of food.
“Oh please it is nothing much just some simple fried chicken,” She said.
“I'm serious I have never had chicken this good,” I said.
“Oh, stop your too kind. It’s really nice to hear some praise after spending hours cooking a meal for my family,” She said
“Yeah, mom it tastes great. It’s really good mom,” Felix and his siblings said together. I love family dinners like this. It was nice being able to be around a family like this where they are just talking and laughing with each other. I have missed this family closeness for a long time.
“So Trevor how did you and Felix meet,” Mrs. Claytons asked.
“He ran into me the cafeteria and spilled his lunch all over himself. He then tried to wash it off in the bathroom and his shirt was soaking wet. So I lent him my extra jersey to wear,” Felix said.
“Yeah, I would have had to wear a wet shirt today if it wasn’t for Felix,” I said.
“Well Felix you just be sure to treat Trevor nicely,” She said.
“Hahaha I will mom don't worry,” he said looking at me. As supper went on I heard the front open and in walked a man. He looked like an older heavier set Felix. “Trevor, this is my father,” Felix said.
