Reincarnated as a king dragonnewt

First visit

First visit

Feb 25, 2022

How fast time goes by, it has been five years since my arrival in this unknown world. The last two and a half years I have been learning about the language, or rather, the languages spoken in this world. Thanks to Saraa, and also to mom and Rudith on some occasions, I have managed to master much of the Drakonn language, the language spoken by the dragonnewt. It was a pleasant surprise to affirm what I already assumed, that I was not human, but it left me in shock, and very thoughtful about it, to know that I belonged to a race descended from the ancient dragon gods. Going back to the above, not satisfied with learning only one language, I asked my mother to help me to learn the elven language, apparently she has some contact with the elves but I don't have much information about it, I also asked Rudith to help me to learn the human language. As I understood, humans speak different types of dialects depending on the kingdom they belong to, but they have an official language from which they derive these different dialects and it is Areona. Learning these three languages was not easy, and I still have a lot to learn, especially the last two, but I have plenty of time in this place.

My relationship with mom and the girls grew more and more as time went on. We are like a family now. I can trust them as I trust myself, and vice versa.

I find myself in the living room, for the first time in five years I will meet a new person. From what I overheard on the sly, an acquaintance of mom's and an old friend of my father's is coming, but that's all I know. It must be an important person since mom asked Saraa to dress me in elegant clothes, I'm wearing on top: some very well made brown leather boots, a black pants of soft fabric, a wide white shirt with the family symbol on the back, it's a small black dragon with open wings, and a family necklace with the same symbol, a gift from mom for this occasion. It's the first time I wear these clothes, I didn't do it before for lack of interest or for comfort, but now that I'm wearing it, it's not so bad.

After a few seconds I hear the front door open, our guest has arrived.

"Welcome, my lord," Saraa said as she bowed.

"Thank you, Saraa. Long time no see," replied the visitor after crossing the front door, "I imagine Rudith is still around too."

"Of course, Mr. Amos. She is in the kitchen preparing tea and some sandwiches, I can call her to receive you as well if you wish," Saraa replied with great formality after recomposing her posture.

So his name is 'Amos', what a peculiar name. He's a giant, he must be at least two meters tall, and his dark black horns, just like his hair, are even bigger than mom's. His horns are less than a quarter of a meter long. Mine are less than a quarter of his. He wears clothes similar to mine, but different in some parts: brown sandals, baggy white pants that come halfway down his calves and are black at the end, a wide white cloth belt that covers part of his abdomen, a wide white T-shirt that leaves part of his chest bare, and over his shoulders he wears a white tunic with a symbol on the back, the same symbol I wear on my back. His face has a kind, but also disturbing look on it.

"That little guy must be..." Amos said looking at me with a big smile on his face.

"Yes, Mr. Amos. It's your nephew, Rayzel," Saraa replied, "He's currently five years old and a very smart boy, he can already read and write."

"In that respect he came out just like his mother."

"Rayzo was very active, he preferred to train rather than study, he liked to keep his body busy rather than sit and read a book," Amos added with a smile full of nostalgia.

Rayzo? It's the first time I've heard that name, tying a few simple strings together and seeing his expression it's easy to know who he's talking about, he's talking about my father. Mom never told me about him, and I never had the courage to ask, I still think that when she is ready she will, but apparently things got a little ahead of schedule.

"It took you long enough to get here, Amos. Did you forget the way and get lost?" Mom asked with a sarcastic smile before descending the stairs to the second floor.

"It's nice to see you too, Lilith," Amos replied. "I didn't get lost, I was just busy solving some of His Majesty's problems."

"I see."

Those words showed no interest whatsoever.

"Come with me, we need to talk about a certain subject."

Mom points to the place and then moves towards the living room. Amos follows her a few seconds later.

"Saraa, take care of Ray," Mom ordered before closing the living room doors.

"Of course, my lady," Saraa replied before holding my hand. "Come, let's get something to eat while Mom takes care of Uncle Amos."

I wonder what they're talking about in that room.

"Have a seat."

"Sure," I replied, accepting her suggestion.

"And why am I here, Lilith?" I added as I look her straight in the eyes.

"Calm down, this little meeting won't take long. Just sit down, make yourself comfortable and listen," Lilith expressed softly after taking a seat in an armchair which is in front of me. "The reason you are here is very simple, I need you to do me two favors."

"You want me to do you two favors?" I asked in total astonishment. "Now that I didn't expect. Tell me, what are they? I'm curious."

"The first one is very simple, and more so for someone of your rank. How is the situation in Ahstel?" asked Lilith with a totally different look from a few minutes ago.

"You want to know the situation in Ahstel, you? I thought you had walked away from it all since Rayzo's death."

"I did, and I still do. I just want to know how Neros and Lucyl are doing in power, it's been seven years and I didn't want to inform myself in respect to their situation."

I only admire the regret in their eyes and in their words for a few seconds.

"Together they don't even reach half of what Rayzo was as king, but they manage to carry out their work well. With the current revolt things got a little complicated, but nothing I can't solve. Everything is under control and your little sister is fine, after all they have me as an advisor," I commented with a small touch of pride.

"You should have been the king, Amos. From the beginning it should have been you."

"I know, and you should have been by my side ruling, but things turned out differently."

Melancholy takes over our words and the atmosphere. Echoes of a past that will never return bounce off the walls. A resounding silence rules the room.

"What's the second favor?" I asked trying to break the silence.

"Ehhh? Ah, yes, the second favor," Lilith replied with some bewilderment. "In two years Rayzel is going to have her first septennial and when she does we're moving out of this house."

"Wait, you're leaving, where to? You're not planning to go with the elves, are you?"

"Ahstel," Lilith replied, waited a few seconds and continued. "We'll be leaving for Ahstel so Rayzel can advance further in her studies and future training."

"So that was it..." I said before a slight smile of relief ruled my face, then I returned to my seat.

"The second favor is for you to train him, Amos. I want you to be his master in combat and teach him everything you know," Lilith said calmly. "He would have to teach Ray how to fight, but since he is away I think he would like his older brother and teacher to teach his nephew everything he knows."

"I would be honored," I replied without hesitation.

"Thank you, Amos," Lilith added with a slight smile.

"That's all I needed from you for today, I won't be bothering you anymore for a while."

"When you need my help, just ask. You know I'll come no matter what it takes, for you and Rayzel I'd do anything," I said firmly.

"Thank you, Amos."

"Apparently the tea never came, sorry," Lilith added smiling.

That smile...

"Don't worry, I have to go now. I can't leave our king alone for long."

"Thank you for coming even though I'm very busy."

"Whenever you need me, I'll be here," I told her as I get up and slowly walk out of the room.

While mom is busy with her business, I am sitting at the table eating some sweets while drinking tea. As for Rudith and Saraa, one is busy finishing the snacks and the other is busy cleaning up. It doesn't take me that long to finish my snack, I get up and leave for the library.

"Saraa, I'll go study for a while. I don't know how long mom will be, and I'm getting bored."

Saraa just smiles and nods her head.

I slowly walk out of the kitchen and head towards the library as I watch the living room with the doors closed. As I reach the library door and try to open it the sound of another one is heard, it's the living room door. I see Amos slowly walk through the door and head in my direction, a few steps behind is Mom.

"At last I have the pleasure of meeting you, Rayzel," Amos said as he bent down and stroked my head. "My name is Amos and I am your uncle, your father's older brother."

"Nice to meet you, Uncle Amos," I replied.

"Unfortunately I don't have much time to talk right now, but don't worry, we'll have it in a little while."

"I'm retiring," Amos added before walking through the door and on his way.

I don't say goodbye to him, I just watch his big back as he walks off into the distance.

"Come on, Ray. I think tea and sandwiches should be ready by now. Let's wait for the girls in the living room," Mom said as she took my hand.

"Sure, but first let me grab a book from the library."

I let go of her hand and headed for the library. I walk in and she picked up a book that I have wanted to read for a long time, its name is: 'Fire in its pure state. Advanced control of the elements. Volume I'. After taking it, I go with mom to the living room to have tea together.

"If you could change things, would you do it? I would, but in this life you cannot go back to the past, there is no such power. My actions led me to the consequences I am currently living: my death. I regret many decisions I made throughout my short life, but I wonder: what will there be after death? a second chance? I pray that there is."
