“I’ll let the two of you think about that, I gotta go help set up for the ceremonies. Do think carefully about what I said, okay?” Melody asked, looking at the two boys pointedly. Jake and Lennon looked at each other warily now. The significance of the mating ceremony had never registered with them. The ceremony held more weight than either of them had realized. Originally, they had thought that they were just getting a partner. Jake was feeling sick to his stomach.
“Dude, are you okay? You're looking a bit… green?” Lennon said, unsure. After all, could vampires even turn green? Jake looked at Lennon. Everytime he started thinking about how he was gonna lose him, he felt like vomiting. Jake had loved Lennon for almost 80 years. Since they had first met at 20. *Disclaimer: Vampires turn of “age” at 100 years. They live for a very long time.* Jake had never seen a more beautiful person. Lennon had such beautiful caramel eyes, that made Jake feel a tornado inside his body, scrambling his insides. He got butterflies whenever he thought about Lennon’s fluffy hair, that was the most beautiful chocolatey brown. Like melted dark chocolate with natural red highlights. Jake had never wanted anything more than to be Lennon’s mate.
“Here,” Lennon handed a bottle of blood to Jake.
“Huh? Oh, thanks,” Jake snapped out of his daze.
“Yeah, no problem,” Lennon was worried about Jake. Jake had been staring at him for 10 minutes. Before that, he had been looking green. Lennon decided to let it go, blaming it on nerves. This was a big day, they were both gonna find their mates. Lennon wasn’t sure who his mate was, or if he even had one. Growing up, his entire life was about playing and fooling around. In the last 100 years, Jake was his closest friend, the one he spent all his time with. Having someone new in their mix would be interesting. But would he even be able to find someone? Lennon knew he was strange, he couldn’t control his powers as well as the others, and he didn’t fit in well with people. What if he couldn’t control his powers enough to complete the ceremony? What if he simply wasn’t powerful enough? Lennon’s mind ran through all the possibilities that could happen.
“Lennon? It's time to go now baby. You too Jake, your parents are waiting outside for you,” Melody said, popping her head back into the room.
“ ‘Kay, got it mum,” Lennon replied, his smile not quite reaching his eyes. He followed his mother out of the room, Jake following behind him. The boys were silent, thinking about what was about to happen. Neither of them fully prepared for the magnitude of the change about to occur.
