As I lay down on the roof of the guildhall, I stared at the night sky. It was clear out, not a cloud in sight, the stars were shining brighter this time of year. What’s up with that kid and why is Atlas giving him special treatment? Was he a relative or something? Who knows? “Well, I guess Atlas does.” I sighed.
I got up and looked around for any passerby's before disappearing into the shadows, finding myself in the middle of the street. I noticed a drunkard stumbling his way into an alleyway to take a piss. I walked towards the alleyway and when I got close a nearby guard noticed me. “Jack, what are you doing?” He asked as if I was being scolded.
“Relieving stress?” I answered confused. “What are you doing?”
He sighed. “Jack I'm not getting into this tonight. Leave that man alone.”
“Pshhh I wasn’t going to do anything. You know me.” I waved him off.
“Yeah, that’s why I’m on patrol, so you don’t kill anyone.” He said defeated. “You’ve already been in prison for murder on multiple account, the only reason you haven't been executed is because your guild is independent from national law.
“Ah pish posh those old hoots. If they want me dead, they should just send an assassin--” I trailed off. What if Orion and Scarlet were assassins sent by the king?
No, they would've taken care of me in silence instead of joining the guild. “I got to go Jason; I’ll talk to you another time.” I jumped onto the nearby roof.
I couldn’t help letting out a chuckle at the ridiculous thought as I walked down the streets that were lit up hanging lanterns. Looks like the fall festival is happening soon. I walked around a little more walking down alleys in case I was being followed before I saw a few guys huddled around something. As I got closer that something turned into someone.
All the guys around the person, was around 17 or so but the man they were huddled around was maybe 18. They were punching him and beating him while he tried to block. The person lying on the ground looked almost like Rekka except he had light brown hair instead of black and wore some basic clothes.
The boy tried to reinforce his body with mana he was kicked in the stomach losing concentration. “You know it’s illegal to use mana outside of guild halls, right?” What seems to be the leader of this group asked in a mocking tone.
I hopped onto the roof silently to get a better view of the scene. When I hopped up, I noticed a boy maybe a year or two younger than me rushing to the scene yelling to his brother, who I assumed was the guy getting beat up. The so-called leader stopped hitting the guy on the ground and looked towards the guy running at them.
I smirked at the scene that was about to unfold. The boy yelled as he charged at the group before getting hit in the back of the head with a metal pipe knocking him unconscious. I sighed at the sight of him getting knocked unconscious and jumped down with a thud startling the group. “Another peasant? Buzz off if you don’t want to join these two” The leader said grabbing one of the boys by their hair.
“Yeah! We don’t mind playing with you, too.” One of his underlings said with a wide grin.
“Good” I said releasing killing intent. because I’d like to play as well.”
I grabbed a wooden stick leaning against the wall and snapped it in two, making it into a sharp point. “Jack what are you doing, and who are these people?” Jason came around the corner and asked blocking me from attacking them.
Jason’s POV:
Shit what do I do. I've never seen this look on Jack before. At this rate those kids might actually die. “G-Get out of here before someone get seriously hurt.” I yelled, my voice shaking from fear of what Jack might do to them.
I turned to Jack. “Jack they're just kids, we should make those sure those two are okay.”
“Look at the old man trying to protect the kid. How embarrassing.” one of them laughed.
No, you dumbasses I'm trying to protect you, I was thinking, then I heard a cold voice from behind me.
“Momm-” I coughed trying to fix my mistake. “I mean, yes.”
“Please step aside” Jack sad with an innocent smile that sent shivers down my spine.
Sorry boys. It’s too late for you guys now. Rest in peace.
“I’ll handle this.” one of them stepped forward with a metal pipe from his friend.
“Make sure you don’t dirty your new clothes.” His friends laughed.
The boy charged at jack with the pipe raised above his head going to swing down on Jack. “Just one hit will--” The boy got hit in the face getting sent flying back into the boxes.
Jack hit him so fast I couldn’t follow him with my eyes. Everyone looked at the unconscious boy in shock. “Look at this little shit getting cocky because he caught someone off guard.” One of them stepped up with another metal pipe. “I’ll show you the difference between a peasant and an actual noble trained in the way of the sword.”
He charged at Jack, but Jack stared at him dead pan almost looking bored. When the boy got close to Jack, he dashed around him fast enough to make after images. “That’s right. Be amazed at the full might of the thousand step strike, passed down to me by my father.” he yelled as he continued to dash around Jack.
Jack watched him keeping up with every move the boy made. When the boy suddenly lunged at Jack striking at his face. Jack didn’t move until the last second when he moved his head just so the pipe would barely miss his head. Jack’s eyes were glowing bright yellow, you could see the light streaks from where his eyes just were. He took a step forward striking the boy in the back of the head, breaking the stick with a loud snap. “It’s a shame how fragile these things are when you don’t reinforce them with mana.” Jack said walking passed the unconscious boy. “I guess I'll just have to finish this game off with my hands.”
“Cocky little peasant.” The leader said bringing up his hands in a fighting stance. “I’ll make sure you know your place in this world.”
Jack let loose all of his killing intent freezing everyone in their place. “H-How does this peasant have such pressure that my father doesn’t even have?” the noble boy asked.
The Leaders face went pale as he put on a brave face as he charged at Jack. He didn’t get too far before he was skewered by spikes made of shadows. I watched as the blood drained from his sides. The boy’s grabbed his wound and lit it on fire to seal the wound. “I thought magic outside of the guild halls were banned.” Jack smiled as he appeared behind him a catching the underside of the nobles chin with his scythe the tip of the scythe coming out of his mouth. The noble's eyes were stuck in pain and surprise as he lifelessly fell to the ground.
The two that were unconscious regained conscious and looked around ready to fight but they relaxed when they saw him in the ground. But tensed up when they saw his underside of his chin spewing blood and his lifeless eyes. Suddenly pitch black spikes shot out of the ground shooting into all the throats of the nobles.
“W-what did you do to them.” The boy asked as he shielded his older brother.
“Killed them. What does it look like?” he asked before disappearing into the night.
