It had been two weeks since Bethany returned to the castle and there was still so much to do. Dress fittings, cake tasting, banner picking, color scheming, etcetera. Tomorrow she was officially going to be queen. She didn’t want to have her coronation without her sisters, but it had to be done. Before her wedding she was going to find her sisters. She would not be married without the company of her sisters by her side.
Bethany breathed in deeply as the royal party planner asked which color of flowers she wanted to be everywhere.
“The red roses seem lovely,” Bethany said. “They are my favorite.”
The royal party planner looked at Bethany for a moment and then said, “Roses represent love. You can not have roses at a coronation.”
“Umm. . .what would you recommend?” Bethany asked.
“Purple tulips. They represent royalty,” the royal party planner answered.
“Oh. Then those,” Bethany said.
“Of course. Would you like purple banners or white banners?”
“White looks nice.”
“Ok that’s all for now. The royal dress fitter will be here in a minute with a few dresses for you to choose from,” the royal party planner said leaving the room with all her supplies.
Bethany was left in the room alone for the first time that afternoon. Bethany released a deep breath.
A moment passed and there was a knock on the door.
“May I come in?” said a guy’s voice.
“Yes,” Bethany said confused. The chef wasn’t supposed to come for another two hours.
“Don’t worry. It’s just me,” a familiar voice said.
“Hi, Ethan,” Bethany said, trying to sound cheerful.
“Hi, beautiful,” Ethan said, kissing Bethany’s cheek.
“What are you doing here?” Bethany asked.
“I came here to see you. We haven’t seen each other all week,” Ethan said sadly.
“I know.”
“And I missed your pretty face,” Ethan said, kissing Bethany on the hand.
Bethany giggled and then there was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” Bethany said.
Ethan sat down on Bethany’s chair’s arm as the door opened.
“Sorry to interrupt, Princess,” a lady said, pushing in a cart full of beautiful dresses.
“You’re fine,” Bethany said.
“I brought all the dresses I had that were the most beautiful,” the lady said, pushing the cart to Bethany. “I’m sorry, where are my manners? My name is Madam Baguette.” The lady wearing a pink silk dress curtsied.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Madam Baguette,” Bethany said, nodding in respect. “I’m not trying to be rude in the slightest, but do you mind if we try on dresses tomorrow. I would like to spend time with my fiance.”
“Of course. I will see you at the same time tomorrow,” The lady said curtsying as she then pushed the cart out the door. There was a shut of the door and Ethan and Bethany were alone again.
“Give me a minute to change before we go out,” Bethany said, getting up to walk to her dressing room.
“Ok. I’ll be waiting in here,” Ethan said, still sitting on the arm of the chair.
A few minutes later, Bethany came out of her dressing room wearing her hair down with a sky blue dress that reached to her knees that had a white lace trim at the bottom and white ribbon around the waist. Bethany wore white slip on shoes as well.
“This the only thing I could find that was the least fancy out of all of them,” Bethany said looking down.
“You still look beautiful,” Ethan said. “Hey, I want to go somewhere. I found it while I was exploring.”
A little while later, Ethan had his hands over Bethany’s eyes as he led her into the Palace’s garden.
“Can I see, now?” Bethany asked, excitedly.
“Hold on one second,” Ethan said, leading her a little further. “Ok. . .now you can open your eyes,” Ethan said as he removed his hands from Bethany’s face.
Bethany opened her eyes and looked around. There were all sorts of flowers. Lilacs, Lilys, Roses, Tulips, Sunflowers, Daisies, Lavender, Blue bonnets, and more that Bethany didn’t know the names of. There was a giant fountain in the middle of it all. The whole garden seemed to sparkle with dewdrops from the morning rain.
“It’s beautiful,” Bethany said in awe.
“I know someone more beautiful than this,” Ethan said, reaching for Bethany’s waist and pulling her into his chest.
Bethany giggled and turned around to face Ethan. “Oh, do you now?” Bethany said.
“I do and she’s standing right in front of me,” Ethan said, kissing Bethany on the cheek. Bethany let out another giggle and then wrapped her arms around Ethan’s neck and put her hands into his hair. Ethan brought Bethany closer to his chest, their noses touching. Ethan then kissed her and Bethany kissed him back.
Bethany broke the kiss a second later and said, “I’m sorry I haven’t been spending time with you lately.”
“It’s ok. I understand. You have a lot on your plate right now,” Ethan said, meaning every word.
“Thank you for being so considerate and understanding. I appreciate it,” Bethany said.
“You’re welcome. It is my job as your fiancee anyway,” Ethan said, chuckling and then pulling Bethany back in for another kiss.
Another few minutes later there was a loud throat clearing.
“Excuse me, Princess,” a lady said carrying an envelope.
Bethany and Ethan glanced at each other and then at the lady.
“Sorry to interrupt. . .but. . .I have an urgent message,” the lady said bowing into a curtsy.
Bethany nodded for the lady to continue. “It has something to do with Nick. He got into a carriage accident,” the lady said, sadly.
A tear left Bethany’s cheek. “Is he ok? Where is he?” Bethany asked, panic rising in her voice.
“He is in Celler Hospital,” the lady said, forgetting to answer the first question.
“Thank you,” Bethany said, dismissing the lady.
The lady then curtseyed and walked away.
“Not Nick. Sweet little Nick,” Ethan said, tears gathering in his eyes. A teardrop fell down his cheek. Bethany picked up her hand and wiped away the tear that hung on Ethan’s cheek.
“Hey. . .Nick is going to be ok,” Bethany said, rubbing her hand on Ethan’s shoulder trying to comfort him. “Why don’t we go pack up and head to the hospital? Would that make you feel better?”
“Yes. . .but. . .what about. . .the palace?” Ethan said, tears still gathering in his eyes.
“I’m sure my assistant wouldn't mind taking care of the palace for a few days. The assistant took care of the palace while I was gone for years. I’m sure my assistant can handle a few days,” Bethany said, wiping away Ethan’s tears that hung on his face. “Now. . .come on. Let’s go pack.”
“Ok,” Ethan said, nodding as he followed Bethany back to the palace.
