What was in front of him couldn't be described by words. It was horrifying, yet somehow terrifyingly familiar to him. It was a dark avatar, seemingly staring at him with its blank 'eyes'. He didn't know what it was, only that it somehow emerged from the black grimoire that was contained within the chest.
"I see you've found my gift, huh?" the avatar said in a grumbling voice.
"M... Me?" Andrew stuttered in fear.
"No need to be so terrified, Samael," continued the avatar.
"Who... Who are you?"
"You don't remember me?" the avatar said, seemingly a bit disappointed, "I guess that makes sense. I'm the one you met in the woods before. Well, not exactly.
"This is my voice and my consciousness controlling this... shadow thingy," the avatar explained, "But this isn't my true form. This is only a fragment of Samael's power before he... well, we don't talk about that. It doesn't matter though. Despite you technically being Samael... you're not. Ah... I guess it can't be helped. But I think it's a bit disrespectful for me to keep calling you by that name. I just miss my brother, that's all. But he had moved on."
"I... Why do people keep calling me 'Samael'? Who are you exactly? And who's the voice that reached out to me?" Andrew questioned.
The avatar suddenly shifted as it took on a bright blood-red colour, "What did you say?"
"Oh?" Andrew said, surprised, "You don't know about that? Well, I guess we both have some answering to do. Let's lead with yours first."
"It's not that I don't want to share things with my brother," the avatar sighed (at least that was what Andrew thought it did), "It's that... My brother wanted out of this, and dragging you in again isn't going to do him justice. But, I suppose you do require some answers. I understand. But first, I'd like to know about the voice."
Andrew frowned. He didn't want to explain before getting some explanations himself, but he knew that arguing with his opponent would just lead nowhere, so he started talking.
"Before I was born as an infant, I was trapped in darkness. It was consuming me. I was... dying. I couldn't breathe - well, that was before I was born, so I really couldn't breathe, but that isn't the point. See, when I was stuck in the darkness, something - well, someone - reached out to me. I didn't know who it was. The only thing I know is that that person saved my life."
"Goddamn it," the avatar muttered, "You're still causing problems for me."
"What?" Andrew asked.
"Doesn't matter," the avatar changed the subject, "I guess it's time for some explaining, huh. See... You are part of a much larger world. Larger than you can ever imagine. And an important someone controls it. Well, kind of. I, Samael and many others are cogs of a turning wheel, keeping this world and many others the way it is. But... something bad happened. Things are getting out of hand. And Samael is the key to our problems. But he's a rebellious one. He doesn't want to get involved in this. He still probably doesn't. That's why I don't think I should involve you in any of this. But maybe it's also unfair to you. And maybe you can be the key we need. And that's why you're the Light Bringer, young one."
"Lucifer," Andrew blurted out.
The avatar stayed silent.
"What... why does that name sound so familiar?" Andrew asked.
"It's not something you can worry about right now, to be honest. All I can say is that you will be very important later. And don't worry, there will be others accompanying you on your journey. They will help you get through this. Ramiel had already sent someone."
"What do you mean?"
"Everything - and I do mean everything, Andrew - is about to change. And I think that bastard is going to make you the centre of it."
"The centre of it? What bastard?"
"You know this name, Light Bringer. But in case you have forgotten, then I shall repeat it once more. Remember it carefully, for your journey still lies a long way ahead."
"What name?"
"The Bastard Son. The Breaker of Order and Chaos. The Ultimatum. His name is Seraph."
As soon as Andrew heard those words, his head started ringing furiously. He started feeling as if his head was breaking in two. He fell to the ground as he started screaming. But there was no sound. Nobody could hear him, even Eliza, who was right next to him. His eyes started closing as everything turned black.
Thunder roars.
Andrew could hear the distant beckoning of a force higher than himself. Somehow, all he could feel was eternal darkness, slowly dragging him down. The darkness keeps growing until it had finally consumed him.
But Andrew was able to see a speck of light shining down to him, instructing him through the darkness.
"Times change," a voice whispered, "And so do loyalties. I'll see you again, Samael."
