“Pharm. Adetola, I hope this is not a bad time to catch you. A friend of mine at my former Poly told me you were working here after showing him the group picture that we took at the end of NYXC camp. Do you know Stanley Okafor?”
“Yes, I know Brother Stanley. He is one of the ushers at my church.”
“I pressed him to give me your number, but he said he didn’t have it and even if he did, it could land him in trouble if he carelessly gave your number to me. He said I should let it stay between me and him since he overheard your father talking to someone at the church about you working at the outpatient pharmacy at Lagos General Hospital.”
“What exactly does he want? Is he saying that he went out of his way just to talk to me? I didn’t know Brother Stanley was attending a school, he looked like he was already long past a tertiary institution. I guess as the saying goes, there is no old person when it comes to getting an education. Polytechnic is not that bad for a start. ”
Adetola quietly watched as the young man extended his phone towards her as though asking to have her phone number. Acting on cue, Adetola took the phone and began punching her number into it. All the while all this was happening, Adetola kept her cool without revealing the discomfort that she felt in providing her personal information to a casual acquaintance.
“I’ll flash your phone, please don’t forget to save my contact. I’m Isaac Ibiloye by the way.”
Isaac hit the call button and soon he heard the all-too-familiar dialing tone, within seconds Adetola heard the ringtone of fade to nothing from her favorite anime. She hastily reached into her bag to pull out her phone and instantly the ringing stopped.
‘Isaac Ibiloye NYXC’
‘Pharm Adetola’
The two saved the contact of each other in their respective phones. Adetola went first followed by Isaac. The young man proceeded to clear his throat before speaking.
“The Lord has led me to you, Pharm. Adetola. I received a vision about you before we met at NYXC camp, but I wanted to pray more on it and after weeks of fasting and praying I know in my hear that you are the one for me….”
On hearing the declaration of Isaac, Miracle Dike abruptly interrupted what the other person had to say and cried out with joy for her friend.
“Chime! God has finally done it. Our Father in heaven has answered our prayers!”
