Hearing what she said I thought of a logic problem “Which Island!” where inhabitants always tell the truth and visitors from the neighboring island always tell lies.
As I explained what I knew to the group and what question we should ask to know which island we really are, I heard a faint chuckle that gave me the chills.
“I know you’ve gone out of your way to say this to us and I won’t discount the fact that this could work,” Nikay began. “But have you forgotten about my powers? I can make them speak the truth just like how I forced you to.”
Ouch, she didn’t have to word it that way. But at least I know how much spite for me she has in her heart.
“Then that’s the plan ey?” Says Ezekiel. “We’re gonna be using Annika’s power to figure out where we really are.”
“I guess so,” my reply is in such a low voice that’s it’s almost inaudible.
We went to the house of the old lady with Annikka in the lead. When we got there, Annikka spared no time for small talk and immediately interrogated the senior.
“Which island are we in?” She asks while staring right into the eye of the old lady.
“Begone island. Yes Begone island it is.” The old lady was so joyous of her realization that she began dancing all around us.
“The ancestors of Begone island hear my plea… forget you again I shall never be.”
I was getting ready to seeing more of this queer ritual but a white flashed into my eyes, signaling we’re about to be transferred to a new location.
It can’t be the 12 of us again can it? How can I regain Annika’s trust if I’m not given the chance to be the only she can depend on?
Thankfully, this time around it looks like the heavens headed my call.
She looked at me shocked that we’re all alone here. And the first sentence she spoke to me is—
