Chapter 1: I Wanna Be a Kickass Ninja! Or Do I?

After my talk with B-Young I pondered on what it would mean to form a club.

I would need members and a teacher's approval.

I liked the idea of it, at first but now that I’m thinking about it, it doesn’t seem all too bright.

For one, I’m not too acrobatic nor nimble.

Like climbing a wall and some parkour would be hella cool, but I doubt I could do that.

I guess I could just sneak around at night, but then I would look like a thief or something.

(Thu-dunk) Door open

“Hey June, your mother and I are home”

“WELCOME BACK!” I yell from my room.

My parents own a restaurant in town.

I’ve been there a couple times, they serve Korean BBQ there.

My little sister and I would occasionally be dragged there to help out with the restaurant.

Neither of us really complained as we would get some BBQ ourselves after the day was over.

But ever since my sister Flunked, my parents thought it would be a good idea to give us a ‘little break’ from the restaurant.

I was watching some videos on my laptop, but was called downstairs. “HEY JUNE, CAN YOU COME DOWN HERE FOR A SEC?”

I sighed and walked downstairs.

“What is it Dad?”

“Your mother prepared some meal for your sister, if you could?”

“I’ght”

I grab the tray from the kitchen, and begin to head upstairs.

It looked pretty damn good, not gonna lie, a bowl of rice with tonkatsu(Fried Pork Cutlet).

(KNOCK! KNOCK!)

I tap the door with my feet.

“Open up, your food is here.”

(...)

No response, which was typical after the ‘tragedy.’

As I bent down to leave the tray on the floor I could hear a faint noise coming from her room.

It sounded like a video game, or anime.

I myself would’ve played a lot of video games as well, but ever since the fights at school, I’ve been constantly pumped up with dopamine restlessness that even video games don't seem thrilling enough.

I take one of the cut pieces of tonkatsu and take it for myself and head back into my room.

With the little time I have before I go to bed, I ponder on what kind of ninja would be the best for me.

Chapter 2: Draw Blood

It was Wednesday, my group was tasked with patrolling around the outside vicinity of the West Han High.

It was the usual bunch, Me, B-Young, Sung, Kim, and Boshik

There was no real structure to the group.

In fact all we do is just walk around and goof off.

“Hey Sung, you aren’t complaining? Something wrong?”

“Huh? Fock off Kim, compared to the other shit we have to do this is the least taxing.”

I decided to join in the fun, “Ya kim, wtf is wrong with you, beat the shit out of him Sung.” We all laugh.

All of a sudden an unfamiliar voice could be heard.

“We could do that for you if you want-”

We all turn to look, it appears to be some guys from South Gung High.

There were only three of them, but judging from their looks and how they act, they seem to be sophomores at least.

They wore their school uniforms which were dark green.

One of them even had their hair dyed green.

While another had shades.

And the last… had a tattoo on his face.

I could hear Sung from behind whisper, “shit, what do we do?”

The man with shades spoke as he waved his arms, “Awee, guys, guys, guys, it’s all right I was just joking with ya’ll, hahaha”

The man with green hair responded right after in a much deeper voice, “Chill it, Park-min, you're scaring these shrimps.”

I could hear B-Young whisper behind, “let's just leave, come on.”

We all turned and slowly walked away.

But the man with shades spoke again, “Ah, come on man, I said I was just j-o-k-i-n-g.”

“Besides, do you really think you can get away without saying goodbye to Hyung(Older Brother)?”

The man with shades grabbed B-Young’s uniform.

Realizing the danger we were in, we decided to run.

But not before trying to help, my friend B-Young.

I tried to kick the man with shades, but he didn’t budge.

Rather he smiled back at me with a shit eating grin.

B-Young himself quickly punched that face soon after.

The grip loosened and we ran.

We were being chased like rats.

Hoping over benches and sliding through pedestrians.

The man with shades sprinted full speed at B-Young, trampling over bystanders while doing so.

B-Young realizing this tried to make a sharp turn in the upcoming block.

I myself was too invested into my spirit to make such a sharp turn.

We parted ways.

Behind me was the man with his hair dyed green.

Compared to the man with shades this guy seemed more relaxed in the chase.

He kept a constant and steady sprint and it was impossible to shake him off.

I was pretty tired as well, I needed to think of something, fast!

Ultimately I stopped by a nearby playground.

I was out of breath, the man with dyed hair was also out of breath, but he was in a much better shape than me.

(Huff) (Huff) “Listen kid, I hope you're prepared to pay the price for making me chase you.”

I couldn’t respond as I was out of breath, I merely looked back at him.

After one last breath I quickly turned around.

I tried to run up the slide to get to higher ground, but he grabbed my ankle and pulled me down.

I tried to kick him off, but got punched in the face instead.

I grabbed his uniform and using my full body weight tried to slam him to the ground.

But it was impossible, before I could move he headbutted me, slamming me against the metal slide.

Afterwards, he grabbed my uniform and tossed me to the ground.

He continuously kicked my gut, I tried to grab his leg or shoe but he kept side stepping out of the way as if he was playing tic tac toe.

In my foggy vision I could see another individual running towards me.

The figure soon tackled the man with dyed hair onto the ground.

Upon closer inspection it was Sung, the guy who complains.

“W-w-ell sh–it” I whisper but it was audible

He yells back, “AND DON’T SAY I DON’T DO SHIT”

This moment of heroics was quickly overshadowed by a punch to the stomach.

It appears it was now his turn to get beaten the shit out of.

I myself was too tired to get up, or atleast move.

Combined with the pain in my chest and exhaustion, all I could do was lay and watch.

After a thorough beating, the man with dyed hair checked his phone, presumably to check the time, afterwards he quickly left the scene.

I was essentially locked to the school’s infirmary bed.

With what little energy I had I looked at Sung and said, “Thanks.”

He nodes, but doesn’t make eye contact.

Perhaps he regrets his actions I thought.

Perhaps he only helped me, cause I gave him so much shit about him complaining.

Not pushing any further, I looked around I noticed it was rather empty

I didn’t see anyone else but Sung and me in the infirmary.

I wonder what happened to B-Young, Kim, and Boshik.

Chapter 3: FIGH! FIGHT! FIGHT!

B-Young succeeded in making a sharp corner turn.

It gave some more distance between him and the man in shades.

“Finally, some breathing room” B-Young thought to himself

B-Young knew he had some relative advantage.

The man in shade’s sprint most likely was draining him faster than B-Young stamina.

All B-Young had to do was outlast him.

(RING~) (RING~)

“Huh? A bicyc-”

(Crash!)

B-Young was hit on the side by an oncoming bicycle, and fell onto the floor.

On the bicycle was a man with a tattoo on his face.

He casually got off the bike and leaned it against a wall.

His voice was calm and gave almost a friendly vibe, “Heh, you ran pretty good kid.”

“You’ve been in track and field or something?”

B-Young couldn’t respond, as he was catching his own breath, he could only huff and puff.

Soon the man in shades caught up.

(Huff) (Huff) “C-come… on man, (Huff) too… afraid?!”

The man with the tattoo replied, “no one is afraid of you Park-min, especially since you prey on the weak.”

(Huff) (Puff) “T-The hell (Huff) you talking about…”

“Oh, come on, you know you would wipe the floor with these guys on a one vs one.”

(Huff) “So what? Spill it Hyung(Older Brother) I ain’t (Huff), in the mood.”

“I’m say’in make this a bit more interesting, fight multiple of these guys all at once.”

(Huff) “I ain’t as skilled as you Hyung, just leave me and my prey alone.”

“You ain’t gonna get any stronger by not challenging yourself you know, humf, ight whatever.”

“I’ll mop up the other 2 guys.”

As he said that two guys appear walking up to them.

It was Kim and Boshik.

An unfortunate state of events. They assumed they lost their pursuers but it appears they made a wrong turn as well.

A brawl ensued, B-Young, before he could even get up was blinded by dust and dirt that had been thrown at him by Park-min.

Park-min proceeded to kick B-Young while he was down.

Meanwhile, the man with the tattoo on his head threw the bicycle at Kim.

Kim fell from the impact, unable to avoid it as he was too out of breath.

Boshik tried to help Kim by removing the bike, but was quickly slammed to the wall by the man with the face tattoo.

Boshik, however, was stronger than most.

After catching his breath, he pushed the tattooed man onto the ground.

“-Huh-”

The man grunted as he was surprised by the strength, but he didn’t fall to the ground.

Kim, who freed himself from the bike, punched the tattooed man on the back of his head.

The tattooed man was undisturbed.

He shifted his weight forcing Boshik to fall onto the ground, due to his inexperience.

The tattooed man turned to look at Kim, Kim himself pulled out a pair of scissors and a letter opener from his backpack.

The tattooed man whistled (QEEEWEE)

“Das, some fun toys you got there.”

Meanwhile B-Young who was on the ground was given a chance to stand up.

His opponent Park-min gave B-Young some breathing room.

B-Young took the chance and leaned against the wall to help him up.

“Oi, you seem quite energetic, heh.”

“Most freshmens I beat up stay down, but I guess you still haven’t learnt your lesson!”

As the man in shades says that he goes in for a kick.

B-Young tries to move, but is too injured to do so.

The kick lands squarely on B-Young’s jaw, blood spits out from his mouth and nose as he falls down unconscious.

The man with shades looks over to his partner, the man with the face tattoo.

Kim lunges his scissor at the tattooed man.

But the tattooed man grabs both of Kim’s wrists.

“W-Wat?” Perhaps the tattooed man is faster than Kim originally thought, or perhaps Kim was too slow.

Even in his confusion Kim continued the attack, with his right leg, he tried to kick the knee of the-

(SLAM!)

The tattooed man headbutted Kim, Kim dropped his weapons and fell onto the ground unconscious.

Boshik, the last conscious member, still stood tall.

The tattooed man waved his finger at him, inviting a charge.

“YAHHHHHHHHhhh”

Boshik charged at the tattooed man.

To the surprise of both the students from Gung High, Boshik threw dust and dirt that he collected while he was on the ground.

This caused the tattooed man to lose focus for a split second.

Boshik slammed the tattooed man onto the wall, an audible cracking of brinks could be heard.

“Shit, this bastard is stealing our technique.” The man with shades spoke.

The tattooed man regained his focus, he was pinned next to the wall but his arms and legs were free.

“It’ was a good effort kid, too bad you still have a long ways to go.”

After a split second the tattooed man wiggled his left arm into position, and elbowed Boshik’s head.

Boshik fell onto the ground unconscious.

Chapter 4: Missing In Action

I was unnerved the following days.

The official word from the committee was that B-Young, Kim, and Boshik were ‘recovering’ from their injuries.

It’s been 2 days since that fight and yet I haven’t seen them on campus.

For the most part Sung and I were stuck together as we were too injured to do normal tasks.

While cleaning one of the classrooms, I would talk to Sung.

“So… Have you seen them yet?”

“Nah…”

“4 days left till the attack on South Gung High”

“Ya…”

“You think we will be participating?”

“Huh?”

“Assuming we're healed by then of course.”

“Heh, I doubt the committee even cares, even if we were half alive they would still drag us to do something.”

There was a brief moment of silence between us.

I look out the window and look at the empty yard.

“I-I’ma go check up on them, you wanna join?”

I could see from the reflection of the window that he looked at me but then his eyes drifted away.

He touched his own face, where his bruises lied, and quickly retreated his hand.

He looks back at me.

“We’re gonna fucking die dude…”

I paused for a second to think about what he said.

It was probably true, in fact asking him to do this was probably unreasonable after he went back to help me, or atleast the effort was nice.

Soon after, the after school bell rang.

“After school tomorrow, meet me in the yard if you want, cya.”

I headed back home after putting away the broom.

It was the next day, to my surprise it was raining that day.

I took the umbrella from the shoe locker and went to school.

I don’t know about you, but I hate the dam rain.

The worst part is that my socks get wet and all soggy.

Of course there are those rubber rain boots, but it doesn’t matter once you get splashed by a car.

The day wasn’t very eventful as everyone was too moody from the rain.

(DINGG DONGGGG~)

And just like that school was over.

I grabbed my backpack and my umbrella and headed to the school yard.

There was a shader near the bleachers in which I went towards.

(Drip) (Drip) (Drip)

I sat on the bench underneath the shader, but as expected my socks got all soggy.

After waiting 10 minutes I could see someone approaching, it was most likely Sung, but I couldn’t tell from the umbrella and hoodie covering his face.

But I didn’t say anything.

The figure paused several yards away from me, as if contemplating his current actions.

1 minutes passed by.

(Drip) (Drip) (Drip)

The figure soon walked away.

It was a sour sight, but I didn’t complain.

It's not like he owes me anything, rather it should be me owing him a favor.

I get up from the bench and start heading towards South Gung High School.
