JiHo packed away his work from the latest case. He gave his desk a final look as he slipped into his dark pinstripe suit jacket. Everything was in order and he supposed, so was he.
He stepped out into the hall of the investigation wing and made his way toward the elevator. He should be thinking about the new case, but all he could concentrate on were his growing questions about Nari.
After Yoo SangHoon told him about her uncle's death day, he had an idea to take her to dinner that Monday. When he started to speak of it after his lunch with Yoo SangHoon, she seemed not to hear him.
When she picked him up to drive him home, he tried again. This time, she interrupted by commenting on the bright, late afternoon sun. He had looked through the window and didn't find it any brighter than usual. She was rubbing her forehead and could barely hold her eyes open.
When they reached his building, he suggested she cancel any more appointments. He was relieved to learn she had no more that day. She had been crying. He could see it in the swelling around her eyes.
Yoo SangHoon had said he was taking her to do more shopping, so he called the CEO as soon as he reached his apartment. Nari had cancelled their afternoon outing, stating she wasn't feeling well and asking if they could go the following day.
For the remainder of the week, she didn't speak to JiHo. He didn't know if it was because he had led their relationship to become that way or if something personal was making her keep to herself. He wondered if she was still grieving for this long.
He tried to book her for the weekend. He was determined to get closer to her as soon as possible. Everyone who meant something to her had died, and she was about to lose someone else. He never knew Yoo SangHoon to worry, and if he was worried about Nari, JiHo knew he should worry, too.
She didn't approve any appointment requests, and when he texted, she didn't even read the messages. When he called, he only reached voicemail. He left two but she never called back. He contacted Mr. Yoo, who said Do-Yun had spoken to her. She told him she needed to take time for herself, so he didn't bother her.
Walking through the doors of the law firm's entrance, JiHo saw her parked and waiting in her usual spot. She was reading on her tablet again. He set his jaw and hastened his stride. He wasn't going to allow her to freeze him out this time.
