Lyon is the son of the kings of his planet, and he fell in love with the prince from the planet their parents had an alliance with.
They met in secret every time his parents came to Lyon’s planet, and they fell in love. His name was nox, and to Lyn, he was the most beautiful person ever.
He knew everything about plants and flowers, he had some control over them. He taught Lyon about portals, and in turn Lyon taught him the violin. They found a way to communicate using small portals and violins.
One day, lyon said goodbye to his parents as they were leaving for another planet.
He always had free time when his parents left, time he used to talk to nox. So the third day he went to his room, closed the door so that none of the castle's employees would walk in, and took his violin. He slowly started playing, to alert nox. No greeting. Strange.
He picked up speed, knowing this would certainly reach him
No response.
So, hesitantly, he opened the portal a little more. And he saw no one
He left and went to bed, feeling uneasy. Nox always answered. Then again there was this one time when he had a long dinner to attend. That must be it, he has an event.
The next day passed, and Lyon got no response
And so passed the next day, and the next, until the 4th day, when the butler who was about to serve Lyon breakfast said this.
Sir, you have a letter
A letter? Addressed to him? Huh. Maybe it’s nox! Maybe he’s alone too, and he got time to write!
He excitedly opened the letter, and started reading with a grin on his face
Grin that was abruptly wiped form his face as he red the paragraph
“ dear Lyon. I’m Nox’s sister, Lavender . I know that nox considers you one of his dearest friends, so it only feels right to notify you of this immediately. Nox was badly injured in a battle against a kingdom allied with yours. We don’t know who planned the attack, but we managed to save nox. He is in the hospital wing, but it doesn’t look so good. I’ll keep you updated”
-lavender
So that’s why nox didn’t answer? He was sick this whole time?
A million thoughts raced across Lyon’s mind
What if he died? No, he’s strong, he’ll survive
What if his parents planned the attack?
They couldn’t have, right?
That’s not how it works
You don’t betray people
You can’t do that
Can you?
Days passed, and the only things that Lyon did was wake up, eat a piece of fruit, practice the violin for 4 hours, lock himself in his room reading, and stay up until 4 am just to see if nox would respond. As long as the portal is there, nox is fine.
Until a week after
He woke up, and didn’t check the portal
He went to get his usual piece of fruit.
He sat down
“You have mail, sir’
His heart stopped
He cautiously opened the letter, took out the paper, and stated reading
“Dear Lyon. Nox has passed. He died in his sleep yesterday, and I thought you deserved to know. The funeral is tomorrow, please come. He told me about you and him, you have to come”
Lyon was devastated. His best friend, his only friend, his lover, his soulmate had died.
He felt as though a piece of him was gone. The air felt empty
He got up, wiped his tears, said thank you to the maid who gave him the letter, and headed upstairs
He opened the door, and tried to calm down, but the room felt different, the portal was closed, the flowers on the wall were even beginning to fall off, and he knew they would stay for long.
Like nox.
He attended the funeral, he mourned, he cried in front of someone for the first time ever since he said goodbye to nox after his last visit.
Days passed. Lyon didn’t talk to anybody, he only played, and played and read.
He was adamant
He would turn back time
He would bring him back
No matter the cost
He finally found it, the spell. Ironically, it needed a portal
As he was preparing to do it, his parents walked in.
Good morning, Lyon
“Is that all you’re going to say to me?” Said Lyon, clearly about to cry
YOU BETRAYED THEM
YOU KILLED NOX
I’m sorry, but it was our alliance with them, our one with the most powerful planet. Even so, you’d only met a few times- said his father, wit seemingly no care in his face
WE TALKED EVERY NIGHT
WE WROTE TO EACH OTHER
I LOVED HIM
You…….what?! Said his father, angrier than before
Yes. He was my soulmate and you killed him.
He turned and walked away, ready to finish the spell
He powered the last rune, and hit it. Time started to go back, he’d done it.
Until his father walked in.
He got so scared he dropped the spell, and in turn merged the past and present, destroying his room in the process.
YOU WERE USING DARK MAGIC?!
skip to a week later, Lyon is in court. He lost
Well, he’d already lost. He was always lost without nox.
He accepted his fate, walked through the portal, and left his home.
He’d been exiled from his home for defending the ones he loved
He arrived in yunid’s world. And spent 13 years there.
He made a notebook, and tried to replicate the way nox delicately pressed flowers and leaves to collect data, his meticulous writing, to no avail. It looked like a mock of the real thing, it only rubbed salt in the wound. It hurt
Then, as if things couldn’t get worse, he started to die too. He knew it, the air in this planet was slowly killing him. He tried to stop it at first, but stopped caring about 7 years in.
He had accepted it
He was dying, and there was nothing he could do about it.
That was until he met yunid.
She gave him a chance, a chance to make him live for at least 4 years more.
He took it
Who knows, maybe he could finish that spell. If he could find a power source…
He did. A beautiful crystal. Purple when not powered, but turned a greenish shade of blue when energy was fed into it.
The same colour as Nox’s favourite flowers he would send with every letter.
A year later, he finished it.
He knew it would have horrible effects, much larger than the ones in his room. This could easily damage half of the country.
Did he care?
Absolutely not.
He’d been living for 14 years in a world that was killing him, why wouldn’t he kill the world too?
He was warned not to do it, yunid tried to stop him. Nat tried to stop him
He didn’t listen
This was his moment
He stepped into the runes, and started the spell.
The walls started to shake. The columns fell, the trees died
He didn’t stop
He had already stopped once
He wouldn’t mae, that mistake again
As the last tree in the forest burned, he saw a light.
The same light he’d seen in his first attempt.
This was it. He was going
Until…
*bang*
With a swoosh an arrow fired by yunid pierced through him.
This was it
He was dying
So this is what death feels like
It’s peaceful
It’s finally quiet for once
He thought he’d be there forever, floating in an empty limbo, alone with only his thoughts
But then he saw something,
He could see a glass wall. And when he looked through it, he saw none other than his soulmate, there, as beautiful as he last saw him, only much older now.
As they both faded away, they said their last words
I’m sorry
I’m sorry-
