Ethan nods. They both are looking at the selection of movies on tv, discussing them every now and then. The subject of the movies has made them talk more than usual, it was nice for them to talk about something other than school and Ethan’s home life. 

Eventually they decide on watching a comedy, laughing throughout the movie. Jack is just glad to see Ethan happy. After the movie is over, they both get ready to sleep. 

Jack in his room and Ethan on the couch. “I’ll wake you up in the morning.” Jack says to Ethan, saying goodnight and leaves. It takes a while for Ethan to sleep. 

Ethan always has troubles sleeping, more because of how anxious he is every noise he hears is usually something to jump at, expecting his mum to storm in. 

But it’s different now, he’s no longer near his mum. He’s in Jack’s house, and Jack would never hurt him intentionally like his mum. Ethan is a lot more relaxed knowing his mum isn’t in the same house as him, but he’s still anxious. 

In the morning Jack switches off his alarm, goes through to the living-room and sees Ethan sleeping on the couch. He looks peaceful yet tense at the same time, like he was ready to be violently woke up at any time. 

Jack gently shakes Ethan to wake him up. Ethan opens his eyes, seeing Jack and is calm. He didn’t jump when I touched him this time, I guess that’s progress Jack thought to himself. Jack hands Ethan food. “Breakfast” he says, sitting down beside him to eat his own. 

“I don’t get breakfast” Ethan says looking at the food, pulling his legs towards his chest. “Well you do now. Oh and here” Jack hands him £5. “This is for lunch in school, and snack at break time if you want. A drink too. If you need more money just come see me and ask.” 

Ethan tries to give the money back “I can’t take this.” Jack refuses. “Are you telling me you never had lunch or breakfast ? When did you even eat ?” “At dinner. You know yesterday when you told me I didn’t have to finish my meal ? Well, I would need to finish my meal at dinner, even if I didn’t like it.”
