Getting to class, exhaustion lapped at my bones like water to sand staggering my footing as I stepped into class. The professor close behind as the bell above chimed aloud across campus. From there lessons droned on, tapping my foot against the carpeted floor as he explained the easiest equation. Things that I already know about. Feeling an arm against my back my body nearly flies from the seat.
“Wow babe, what’s got you all jumpy today?” Garrett’s voice hits the back of my ear, the internal urge to hit him with a chair become ever more tempting. Pushing his hadn off my back, I keep my eyes trained on the subject in front of us.
“Not now.” I whisper a look of disappointment crossing his face, ‘Score one for me.’ I thought as his hand finds my back once more, rubbing it as the class drones on. Mentally cursing the entire time till the bell sounded. Shooting up and gathering my books I make a beeline for the door. Out into the bustling hallway as Garrett’s voice tried to follow.
“Hey! Wait up!”
Grumbling I slip through the forming crowds as my mind wonders. Over the past three years the feeling in my every nerve drove me, made me sick to my stomach. Even the one-night stands became something of a nauseating occurrence. Until it just stopped.
Seeing that Newton was my roommate was some fucked up miracle to say the least. So, bumping into him on my escape from Garrett did not surprise me as much as it usually would.
His clothes where disheveled, hair an utter mess, and his face as red as a freshly picked cherry. The cause of such a look coming up fast. Jackson Fucking Parker, and he looked utterly enraged.
“What did you do this time nerd?” The question falls easily looking from the incoming werewolf to the mop of greasy hair that was Garrett closing in fast. Without a second thought I yank Newton by his collar, his body easily letting me move him. “Explain later. RUN!!” Pulling him through the thinning crowd Jacksons obnoxious voice is quick to follow us.
“GET BACK HERE YOU BAREBACK!!”
The insult was something I hadn’t heard in a long time, it being something only a hunter would yell towards wolves that choose to separate form their packs. But that’s not Newton, he would never.
“STOP MAKING FUN OF YOURSELF YOUR MAKING IT TO EASY!!” I retort over my shoulder without even thinking, a soft bout of laughter hitting my ears a second after words, and if my heart could beat any fast, I would be passing out right now. The snort that comes along with it something he tries to hold back as my eyes land on possible the only thing to hide us.
Yanking him behind a nearby pillar my arms move to wrap around his neck, he freezes at the touch eyes wide as we stand there for a good minute or two. They rush back curses falling from their lips as they search. After another long minute they move down the emptying hall. Reluctantly I let my arms drop from Newton’s neck.
‘We aren’t there yet…’ The words crossing my thoughts as we step out from behind the pillar. His crocked glasses looking every which way, worry clouding those beautiful irises.
“So, you going to tell me why that pompous ass was chasing you? or do I have to shove you in a locker to find out?” I question a smirk on my face, ‘Please get the joke.’ My mind pleads as Newton stops looking around to look almost down at me. ‘Has he gotten taller or is that just me?’
“Huh? Oh, shit yeah. Sorry fuck…” he curses running his hands through his hair.
The curses that fell always seemed to put a little surprise on my face but it was all to welcomed as groing up the only time he would dare let them fall was with a hand over his mouth.
But this, this was with a cofused look and wondering eyes as he runs a hand over the back of his neck the other fixing his glasses to the bridge of his nose.
“They caught me while I was getting dresses after last nights shift. Putting two and two together they weren’t happy to see me. Kept going on about how this campus was his territory and all that.”
“Does it smell like his area?” I ask as we start walking down the hall.
“Nah, he’s never laid claim. Already guessing he might try too now since I was out there though.” The sigh that falls from his lips as he rolls his shoulders sounding more like defeat then anything, but I don’t question him. Removing the keycard from his pocket handing it over to me. Which I take it as he walks away. “See you after class.”
“Yeah, yeah see you later.” I wave him off, pocketing the keycard I make my way to my next class my stomach filled with butterflies and a spring to my step.

‘What in the hell is up with him? He’s never jumped from me like that before. Especially full sprinted from me, and, and with that fucking freak no less.’
Rushing down the hall, I find the pompous prince of the school a few feet ahead of me. His breathing heavy and ragged. Looking rather enraged he barks out to his two lackies.
“Fucking find him!!” The lackies all but running into each other comically as he continues to shout. “That newbie is dead meat and that fucking no-good incubus…” He grumbles the last bites as he turns to walk away from his scrambling duo.
Those words catch my attention, slipping through the crowd to catch up I reach forward and grip his arm. Causing him to turn around, a look of surprise hitting his face. Probably expecting one of his lackies as he yanks his arm out of my grasp.
“What do you want?” He questions me, dusting off his arm as I fix myself upright.
“You’re looking for Newton, right?” I question, his eyebrows raising a bit in interest as he nods. “Well, that freak has been stealing something of mine. Whatever beef you have with him I’m all in. But the Incubus is mine.”
Jackson seems to eye me for a moment a questioning look against his features as I lift my hand up in a sort of agreement.
“Why do you want to help so much normie?”
That was the question I was waiting for, a smile pulling up as I lean forward to whisper hopefully no one beside the incoming cronies could hear.
“Because I know what you all for one, and two, I know how to deal with that nerd better then you or Derek could ever. Do we have a deal?”
The look of surprise across his face dies down just as fast as it made itself home. Reluctant as he was, Jackson takes my hand, shaking it in agreement as he questions me back.
“Now I am far to curious, what do you have planned?”
“I have a little something neither of them know about.” The smile hadn’t faltered only thinning as my arm goes to his shoulder. Leading him through the halls and out the building all together. “Now that freak won’t know what hit him.”

Why does class have to drag on like that? The usual side glances from fellow students also making my skin crawl under my jacket. Once I reach our room my body all but gives out, falling against the plush covers a groan pulling from my lips as Newton turns his head from his classwork. His frames falling slightly as he lays sprawled out on the floor. The droning mumbles of his professor pouring from his phone as he turns back to it.
“You are so lucky your professor understood you’re the definition of blind as a bat with your glasses. Mines such an ass!” I exclaim, moving so my head hangs off the bed. Newton upside down as he continues to jot down the lesson notes.
“Maybe if you stopped groaning you would actually get some work done for once.” He responds after a moment, the screen of his phone now laid flat against the carpet floor. His fingers moving through the stack of papers around him.
“But where’s the fun in that? Making somebody beat red is hilarious? Besides, I’m an incubus dear or did you forget? I can still do what I want no obsession in my sight like my mother.” The lie stings against my lips as it falls, damn well knowing that lying about it is just going to make it worse for me in the long run. But I can’t tell him, not yet.
Over the years, the one thing my mother had ever taught me was what to do once you found your obsession. Never, and I repeat Never push it away. For me it’s a bit to late he already hates me so, on my front not the smartest idea. But that’s what you call being a dumb kid.
“Like the new frames, making sure you can actually see the color this time?” Looking up from his work he reaches back to grab something. Confusion and a wave of shock hits my features as a pillow collides with my face. “Seriously?!” The humor against my voice is something I couldn’t hide as I sit up fast and look back at him. Taking the pillow back off the floor he places it back behind him with a nod, he’s damn well sure of himself now, isn’t he?
These last few weeks he’s come more and more out of his shell, far better than the first week to say the least. Hadn’t figured out if its because of the new environment or something I hadn’t seen yet. But I can’t help the soft smile that graces my face.
“You are so weird Nerd, I swear.” Shaking my head, I dig my fingers into the closest pillow Newtons focus thankfully on the scattered papers before him. “But you have made a fatal error.” Turning around I lift the pillow over my head, bringing it down to smack him hard in the face, or well as hard as you could with a pillow. “I am still the raging champion of pillow fights!!”

‘Shit he’s still got a good hit.’
Rubbing the side of my face he announced his claim before turning to sit knees bent on his bed.
“Oh, alright!” Jumping up, I pull the pillow from behind my back. “UNGUARD!!” I shout, and with that the war has begun. Pelting each other back and forth a smile on my face. We hadn’t acted like this since we were kids, and for a minute it feels like that again. Both of us dodging and weaving away from blow till we were out of breath. Barely catching them as the other would take aim.
‘Why is it he’s been so nice to me as of late? After everything, it’s as though a switch had flipped in his head. I don’t know it it’s a good or bad thing. It’s giving me a headache but nothing to bad…’
Taking a swing at his leg Derek falls onto the bed, breathing heavily and raising his arms into the air as surrender. Dropping the pillow as his wavered laughter dances across the air.
“Alright, Alright I’m done! You win this time P- Nerd.” He relinquished cutting himself off near the end as he lays his hand over his chest. Ragged breaths falling as I drop down onto my own mattress.
“Why?” The word falls from my lips faster than I could stop it. Sitting up on his elbow a confused look upon his face as I lift my hands to wave in front of me. “Nothing, never mind.” Quickly blurting out the hurt on his face was something I was not expecting. But he quickly pulls it back, his usual sideways smirk grazing his features before nodding and pulling his sheets over himself. Moving about till his jeans dropped to the floor and his tail whipped in and out.
“Goodnight nerd.”
“G-Goodnight, Derek…”
Watching his arm raise into the air he flicks it, and the lights die down. Drowning us in darkness the outline of his body moving for a few more second before coming to a stop. His slow breaths and slow movements of his covers being the only thing I could see within the darkness.
Pushing myself up so my back hits the bed board my eyes move to the ceiling as my other hand pulls my glasses off. Laying them on the side table as the blurry darkness dances across my aching eyes. After a few minutes Derek’s movements reach my ears the creaking of his bed catching his tossing and turning.
‘Why is this happening? Why is he trying to be all buddy-buddy with me now? Is he planning something like last time?’
Everything starts flying through my mind at a mile a minute, making my chest hurt and my head queasy. Running my hands over my face the urge to throw up becoming more apparent as time passed. Even though it was probably seconds compared to what my mind wanted it to be. Standing up, I push off the bed and cautiously making my way out into the hall.
Closing the door behind me, I make a beeline for the bathrooms. The hallway tilting as I land on the floor in front of one of the toilets. After a moment and a vein attempt to hold it back I couldn’t stop the waterfall of whatever I had in my stomach at the time. Groaning softly, I hold my head up with one hand as the other holds the rim. The tilting feeling not giving way now as time passed.
‘This is going to be a long night…’
