Thrown by the cold,
You’ve finally got a bachelor button,
You have your carnations for this strange one,
And from the rot, ferns can grow
Daniel groans as he slowly woke. His body ached after his last visit to Doc. He didn’t know what his owner did, but his body felt like he had rolled around on a bed of nails. Sprawled on a towel, Daniel realised with a start that he was in a wide, open space that definitely was not his cell.
Well. Fuck.
Where was he?????
Looking around, the light grey dome-ish like room was absolutely barren, except the towel Daniel’s coils laid on. There was a large black screen like thing on one of the walls, and Daniel had a sneaking suspicion that Doc was watching him through the screen, somehow. He kept his face mindlessly blank as he studied the screen, as any emotion he showed could be interpreted wrongly and Daniel would regret it if he angered Doc.
He slowly looked around again, weakly pushing himself up, his arms unfolding and shakily trying to support his upper half. His tongue flickered out, scenting, curious, and in that exact moment, a well-hidden door just under the black screen suddenly opened, and The Hound, 058, walked in. Daniel went as stiff as a statue, refusing to move a single muscle, let alone breathe, large emerald eyes locked onto the other experiment. The Hound, as Daniel calls them, was the only other experiment he knew of, and he was petrified of them.
A mash up, two species forced together- with massive wings of feathers permanently stained red and black and a long scaled tail, deep blue and glimmering silver, The Hound had a blank, milky blue dead stare, their mouth sewn firmly shut with thick wires. Their sickly looking skin was tinged blue and black from bruises. The Hound walked stiffly into the centre of the room, and Daniel was startled to realise that the experiment had another Being slung over their shoulders. Dread filled Daniel rapidly as his mind rushed to all the different things this could mean.
Fighting the new creature-
Or-
Maybe a survival of the fittest situation???
Or… maybe Doc was trying to get more Beings? Daniel felt like he may be sick at the thought.
Daniel could feel all his blood drain from his face, getting dizzier and wishing he could hide and maybe cry or scream about how unfair this was, but still, he kept perfectly still as The Hound unceremoniously dumped the new Being on the floor and left via the way they came, the door sealing behind them. The second the door was shut, Daniel untense and collapsed back down, shaking from the close encounter. The Hound was almost like Doc’s henchman- it did everything it was told without protest, and they would get brutally aggressive if Beings made its job difficult. Daniel knew first hand how dangerous The Hound could get, so nowadays he never resisted.
His attention slowly returned to the new Being who was also shirtless, that certainly didn't help Daniels anxiety- He swallowed, and slowly pushed himself back up, arms trembling, and began to half sliver, half crawl himself closer. It was a boy- maybe a year or so younger than him?? Daniel felt something in his chest twitch with an emotion he didn't understand. The boy was shaking, terribly so, sweating and making pained whimpers. He looked rather odd, with strange looking scars markings just under his chest, and an odd shaped one with many points on his neck. The one on his neck wasn't the same pale brown as the ones on his chest, instead a sickly dark red. His skin was a soft brown, and his torso was heavily bandaged with those massive surgical bandages, locks of orangey-brown, fiery red and a greeny-blue that was so dark it was nearly black, hung in his eyes which squeezed shut in pain. Daniel was quick to realise what was destressing the boy so much.
He was growing scales.
Daniel stared in flabbergasted shock, watching as red, orange and yellow scales pushed through layers of the Beings skin, surfacing and causing bruises and droplets of red to form around them. Daniel searched for anything else that may be causing the poor thing distress, maybe he could help, he hoped. Sharper scales were pushing from his neck, and back, so Daniel moved as quickly and carefully as he could with his tail feeling like a block of lead, moving to circle the poor Being, wrapping them up in his coils and rolling them over so their weight wasn't on his back.
Daniel silently noted the severely deformed tail forming, and hoped that came out alright, cause if it didn't….. “Whether your body develops properly is all that matters! If it doesn’t, then well, I'll simply have to cut that out and restart, of course!” Daniel’s tail curled more around the Being, realising he was nervous for them.
It was so quiet in this new room, no humming of the light above or the flicker of it that made the shadows dance in his normal room. Daniel softly hummed, folding his third and second arms up, letting his first sprawl out and tap, making a steady beat to his shaky song. The little Being was deliciously warm, gosh, and seemed to get warmer and warmer with each scale he grew. At least he was whimpering less, his head nestled on his arms, breathing smooth and quiet with only occasional stutters.
And then he moved.
Daniel was immediately thrown into panic again.
F U C K.
WHAT SHOULD HE DO!?
In his worry over the poor distressed Being he had totally forgotten that this small, distressed Being was ALSO one of Doc’s other EXPERIMENTS. An experiment, which could do practically anything. Daniel didn’t know what it’s purpose was, or if it had one, but he had put himself in a very stupidly vulnerable position. The Being whined softly, and his eyes fluttered heavily, making a pitiful whimper against Daniels scales.
But…..
Daniel thought back to when he first grew his limbs. How scary it was- how lonely he was, in that silent, cold room. He pursed his lips, nervous, and softly groomed through the Beings hair, which had rapidly changed- the fringe a soft yellow fading into a reddy-orange at the hair on the nape of his neck. Small near black grey green spots on the back of his head were shaped like pointed ovals and Daniel ruffled them lightly, scratching slightly at the others' sculp.
And the Being went boneless. Daniel made a frantic sound, and pulled his hand out of the Beings hair, fearful he had, like, broken them or something. And then he froze when he realised that the Beings chest had started to…. Was it vibrating?
Daniel swallowed nervously, but when he moved, he noticed the content, relaxed expression on the small Being, and realised…. Maybe the vibrating was a… good thing? Maybe? Hopefully? Daniel sighed, and softly dragged his hand back through the Being hair, and they sleepily lifted their head up and nuzzled into it, the vibrations growing.
Again- there was that small trembling feeling in his chest, and his tail shifted, curling around the searing hot Being in his coils. He slowly relaxed, content with the Being that nudged and pressed, and Daniel would shift to ensure the little one wasn’t hurt in any way. “What did he do to you?” Murmured Daniel finally, scratching just where the hair started and the little Being shuttered, the vibrations gaining a sound, a low lazy rumble. The feeling grew, and Daniel turned it over in his mind. Was he fond of the little Being?
Fondness…. That's a good emotion, right? Feeling contentment or happiness with someone. He remembered looking it up when he was allowed to have Docs small google screen- letting him learn and understand things. Doc… was mean sometimes, yes… but he didn’t want stupid experiments, and it was a cruel fate, to see but never to have. To know but never experience. So Daniel was allowed to ask for books, although he normally didn’t out of fear of refusal. Fear of wanting.
Don't get attached yet…. They are still yet to awaken….
Daniel sighed, a small exhale of air, and curled around the Being, smothering them in cool smooth scales and soft skin, nestling close.
Hopefully….
Daniel wouldn’t regret this.
