"Not studying means not passing!" A girl speaks in a concerned manner as she enters the room. "What's the point in me tutoring you if you don't do homework or study?" A short girl with ponytails and a tall, darker man follows behind her. "Hey, I told my folks I don't do book stuff, they shoulda known!" the shorter girl replies. "Besides, you like hanging with us, admit it!" The man pipes up. "Well...well be that as it may, you still need to study!" She shoots back with a small smile.
Before a reply can be made, the shortest girl spots Alice and her face lights up as she heads towards her. "Oh my God, Alice you're actually here!" she laughs. "That's a first," the man smiles. Alice pouts embarassingly. "Sheesh, you guys act like I'm never here," she mumbles.
"Oh you know you love us!" the shortest replies. She leans forward on Lily's desk with a smile. "So who's this?" Lily politely gives a little wave. "My name is Lily, it's my first day here." "Oh how cute, I'm Maria," she says. Maria is on the shorter side, perhaps a few inches below Lily. Her auburn hair is kept in two, poofy ponytails, topped off with yellow ribbons. Her adornment of designer jewlery, heart earrings, a necklace and bracelet, suggests she comes from a decent amount of money.
Maria points to the man next to her. His bright, wavy pink hair shorts in the back and fades into a deep blue. His deep, jade green eyes stand out against his cool, dark skin along with his short and curly ebony hair. His attire is and bag are decorated with rainbows and small chibi pins. "This is Ryland!" He smiles and waves at her. "Hi sweetie!"
Maria motions behind her. A girl with almost shoulder-length, dirty blonde hair stands there, clutching her notbook. Two parts of her hair are pulled back into a mini ponytail, leaving the rest down. She dresses modestly, leggings covering what her skirt cannot. "And this here is Eva!" She puts her hand up to her mouth, mock whispering to Lily loud enough for Eva to hear. "Don't mind her, she's a stick in the mud," she giggles.
Eva's cheeks flush slightly. "I, I am not! I just know my priorities." She flips her short hair back, in a manner that suggests her status is above Maria for that reason. " I actually care about my grades unlike a certain someone," she teases. "Eh grades, shmades," Maria smirks. "Partying and fun tops that any day!" Eva groans softly, rolling her eyes at her disregard for education. "Oh you're just jealous you're no fun!" Maria laughed.
"Wha- I am not!"
"Are too. You spend waay too much time doing it. Treat yourself for once girl!"
"Reading and getting all A's IS treating myself!"
'What I wouldn't give to just bash their heads in...irritating brats.' Jason growls softly under his breath. Maria has long known that Eva takes grades seriously, yet she still pokes the bear with a stick, much to her amusement and Eva's displeasure. Ironic however, he views it that way when he himself does the same to Alice. 'At least she makes it enjoyable,' Jason thinks to himself, comparing the reactions of Eva and Alice when they're picked on.
Forcing a smile on his face to hide his true expression, Jason looks up to them from his computer. "Alright you two, cut the catfight," he chuckles. Their argument ceases in an instance. "Psh, what catfight? I'm just having fun!" Maria beams, walking with Ryland to the table next to Lily and Alice. Eva stays silent for a moment, biting her lip as she scuttles to her spot at the table behind Alice.
Jason focuses back towards his program. His eyes skim over the list, stopping at Lily's name, his heart almost skipping a beat. '...Blackwood? This...no this is a complete coincidence, it's not even spelled the same. Get your head out of your ass.'
Despite him yelling at himself to ignore it, his eyes can't help but secretly travel up to stare at her, unnoticed. Watching quietly as she giggles at the banter between her new found friends. 'It feels too perfect. I think this may be my favorite class now. But I have to take things slow. One step at a time, don't rush into it.'
"Lily, could you come here for a sec?" He asks, loud enough for her and the others to hear, but not so much the rest of the class. "Huh? Oh, yeah sure," she responds. As she stands up, Ryland and Maria give her a joking "ooooh" sound. "First day and you're already in trouble. I like you!" Maria calls to her. Ryland laughs while Lily embrassingly smiles and waves it off.
"What's up?" Lily peeps as she approaches his desk, staring down at him. It takes a good amount of his willpower to not eye her up and down. "Right now we're quite ahead of you in this chapter, only two sections from the end," he begins. "So I'll have you skip this one and join in on the next one. In the mean time, feel free to do other work or just hang out quietly."
He gives her a soft smile, one that secretly hides other thoughts. "Oh, thank you," she replies happily. It's a small rush of enjoyment knowing she won't have to scramble to catch up with the others. "No need to thank me," Jason said, seemingly nonchalant about it. Beaming, she turns around back to her seat. As she does, he finishes off attendance and rises from his seat. "Alright guys, lets get started!"
Love at first sight was always thought to be a tender, magical moment. But for young Lily, this moment begins the first step into her worst nightmare that will bring dark, buried secrets to light.
