It was a couple more minutes before we were met with a clearing and in the middle sat a beautiful moon lit lake. Myles's eyes lit up behind his glasses as the moonlight hit his face, he looked at me with a smile that spread from ear to ear. He walked forwards, not letting go of my hand and I followed close behind him smiling at how amazed he was.
He
stopped right before edge of the lake and just stares at the reflection of the
moon on the water’s surface. I couldn't stop myself from staring, he took my breath
away. I move closer to him and squeeze his hand. He lowers his head onto my
shoulder and squeezes my hand back, I rest my head onto his and we stand quietly,
alone, just us together before this calm lake that is just a few minutes away
from a hell hole.
"I like it here. With you." Myles doesn't move but speaks softly, I've waited for this day, this moment. I can stand hand in hand next to the most incredible person on this whole planet, the boy I like.
"I knew you would, It's peaceful and away from that shithole school. And... I like being here with you too. You make everything better." I speak back without even thinking twice, I could feel the heat rising to my face when Myles didn't reply. Instead, he moved as close as possible to me and wrapped his other arm around mine. I couldn't help but move closer to him and smile. This was the boy for me. He's perfect.
"I don't wanna go back, I wanna stay here forever with you. I really don't deserve to have someone like you in my life, but I hope I'm stuck with you a while longer." Myles smiles a small smile and sighs deeply.
"Oh, trust me, I'm not going anywhere. I don't wanna leave you, your all I have here, well anywhere really." I said back whilst moving my other hand to meet his hand around my arm.
"I hope I don't have to leave you. Hey, can we sit down? My ankle is a little sore from the fall earlier." Myles lifted his head so his eyes are level with mine and I spot and walk us to a wide tree which will block the wind. I wrap my arm around his shoulders and pull him into me, he curls up next to me and he rests his head on my shoulders again. The air was cold, but we kept each other warm.
“Hey Luke, do you think the school would ever accept us? Ya know cause we’re gay?” Myles asks quietly. I knew the answer, they would never. But I don’t wanna ruin the moment so I say what I think will make it ok.
“I hope they do, for your sake mainly. We’re different but we’re special. And if they can’t learn to live with it that’s their fault. At least we have each other, we can do this together.” I move my head to rest on Myles’s, I hold his hand tighter and hold him closer. I Like him so much, he’s so special to me, he’s all I have. I don’t want to leave, out here we can be us, no judgement from anyone.
Myles sighs gently and closes his eyes. I can’t fall asleep here, but Myles is in peace, so I don’t want to annoy him yet. I’ll let him sleep on me for an hour or two, but we can’t stay out all night. His breath was calm and quiet, he cuddled close to me to keep warm, I hold him tightly, so he stays stable and next to me. I never would have wished for something different, he is more than amazing, he’s kind and caring.
“I’m not gonna let anything happen to you, ever. I promise.” I whisper to him and press a light kiss onto the top of his head, he shuffles under my motion, wraps an arm around the front of my torso and squeezes my hand lightly. I could feel a blush rising through my face knowing he heard me and probably felt me kiss his head, although it didn’t seem to bother him which made me happy.
He slept for an hour or two before I had to wake him up to take him back to his room, I helped him through the gathered roots, through the tall trees and back to our rooms. We knew the consequences if Stout see’s the cameras, but we will help each other through this time.
We’ve got each other, that’s all that matters.
