"Honorary knight, is something wrong?" I asked.
"Someone sat a trap on the road, the tire got busted. It is not safe, whoever planted the trap will come attack, and for Christ's sake, don't call me 'honorary knight' you're my partner, I'd like it if you call me something more intimate." Theodore took out the spare tire and started fixing the carriage. He suddenly stopped then countered an attack out of nowhere. It was a bandit that lunged himself on Theodore.
No sooner two-- no five more bandits started attacking Theodore, but he dodged them while looking unbothered. He took three down using the hilt of his sword, the two left were shaken up, but they didn't back down. From both sides, they charged at him, at the last second Theodore moved away and they ended up stabbing one another. It was horrifying to watch.
I left the carriage to check on Theodore's well-being, but it turned to be a mistake as a sixth bandit was hiding and he ambushed me then placed a knife close to my neck. "Don't move!" The bandit said as he brought his knife closer to my neck.
"S-Sire Th-Theodore...!" Help me! I'm scared. I wanted to scream that, but somehow I felt like I need to do something.
"Let him go and I won't make your death slow." The bandit hesitated, but then pushed his knife into my neck causing a small cut.
"Drop your weapon or I will kill your precious princess." Rude! I'm a man!
"Okay, I will, just don't hurt him." Theodore dropped his sword then the bandit's grip on the knife loosened. I took the chance to position myself under his chin then I head-butt him hard causing him to recoil. I quickly ran to Theodore who doesn't hesitate in taking his sword and started beating the last bandit. The bandit lost consciousness, but Theodore kept beating him. "How... Dare... You... Lay... Your filthy hands... On my love...!"
For a moment the Theodore who was chatting with me pleasantly, the Theodore who kissed me gently disappeared and was replaced by a very violent man. The honaray knight Theodore Black that my heart started to beat fast in fear.
"S-Stop... E-Enough!" I mustered my courage to shout these words which surprisingly worked. His eyes were back to his natural state, he stood up then spat on the bandit.
"Noah... I--" I recoiled from his extended hand. He looked wounded as though it was him who was beaten that I felt a sharp pain in my heart.
"Th-Theo--"
"Let me treat your wound, just let me notify the driver to report these bandits." The driver in question was hiding under the carriage when the attack happened. What a coward. I nodded my head then we went inside the carriage.
"Good thing I brought my first-aid kit in my luggage." He applied the medicine on my wound.
"Ouch!" The medicine stung and I let out a sound.
"I-I'm sorry, let me just..." He blew on the wound and I felt ticklish. He applied the plaster then closed the kit.
"What about your wound? Y-Your hands are bruised."
"This...? It's nothing, I'm not stabbed, and I used to get more injuries on the battlefield." I wanted to argue back, but I couldn't find the courage to say it out loud. Theodore washed his hand from all the blood then tied up all the bandits.
After thirty minutes the authorities took them away thanking Theodore for his courage and strength. I'm an idiot, Theo lost his cool because the bandit injured me even though it was a small cut.
...
..
.
Time passes and it's night already. We stopped near the road so the horses can rest. Theodore took out a blanket then offered it to me. "Sleep tight, I will be out."
"O-Okay, but what about you? It's cold out."
"I'm good, not the first time I sleep in the wild. I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable... I'm sorry for scaring you there... I just didn't want anyone to take you away from me after the hell I went through to be with you." Theodore is such an honest and kind man, I can't believe I felt scared of him.
"U-Um... I..." I hugged him from behind. "Sleep with me." I couldn't see Theodore's face, but I saw that his ears were red, and then he held my hands.
"Someone needs to guard you."
"Don't worry you lovebirds, I will guard out as a thank you for saving my life. I will call out to you Sire Black if anything alerting appears." The driver said.
"Alright, then I will take you up to your offer." Both Theodore and I snuggled close to one another. The weather is colder than I expected that I held him tightly for warmth. "Sorry, I didn't think that it'd be cold for you. I would have bought some heating packs."
"It's okay, your body is really warm. I like it, Th-Theo...!"
"S-Stop saying cute things or I will get hard...!" Theodore said.
"O-Oh! I'm sorry!"
"It's fine, I won't force you into doing something you're unwilling to do."
"Okay, thank you Theo."
"Goodnight." Theodore kissed my forehead then we both fell asleep.
The next day...
I woke up to see that the carriage is already moving and I'm using Theodore's lap as a pillow. "Good morning sleepyhead." I jolt up feeling embarrassed. "Don't stand up too fast."
"I-I'm sorry for you using y-your l-lap as a pillow."
"It's fine, you're my husband, all of me belongs to you and all of you belongs to me."
"Okay then..." I laid back on his lap which made him stroke my head gently.
"It's still early, rest all you want." I nodded my head immersing myself in his gentle touch and his warmth.
After a long journey we finally reached Theo's-- I mean our castle. Do I deserve to say that? Theodore got off first. I fixed myself then my crown. I need to look respectful and not humiliate Theodore in front of his troops. He offered his hand which I take with no hesitation. "Welcome to our new home." Theodore said then kissed my head.
I looked around to see that people are displeased to see me which made me hold Theodore's hand tighter in fear. I'm used to hostile eyes since this is how people look at me everyday, but I thought Theo's troops would be as kind as him.
"Theeeeooooo! Welcome baaack!" An energetic girl with short bright pink hair and large green eyes jumped into Theodore's arms. Is she his little sister? She looks so young. "Are you going to divorce prince Noah and marry princess Hina?"
"Stop talking nonsense, you know how I feel in this matter."
"Yes~ yes~ our leader is hopelessly in lo--" Theodore cut her off with a karate chop on her head.
"Sh-Shut up!"
"U-Uhm... Nice to meet you, I'm prince Noah Evermoon."
"I'm May Blackwell, I look young, but I'm actually twenty-three! And I graduated Evermon college of alchemy at age eighteen, I'm what you call a genius." May said.
"Whoa! you're five years older than me?!"
"Yes~ yes~ Nice to meet you." She gripped my hand with both of her small hands, suddenly her grip became tighter and she glared at me through her forced smile. "You are the prince that never bothered to write back to his husband, everyone hates you here for it~" Again with those letters...
Sensing my discomfort Theodore push her hands away and brought me closer to him. "Stop making my darling feel uncomfortable."
"But he deserves it! Theo! You never stopped writing for him and he never bothered to reply to any of them! I was there with you through those two years! You wrote hoping he might respond to one of them!" May shouted and some people started whispering among themselves. Theo couldn't say anything that he looked at me asking for help which I couldn't offer because I was too afraid to open my mouth.
"Enough! Prince Noah is my husband! Whether you like it or not you will treat him with the utmost respect. Any person who brings him distraught will answer to my blade!" After declaring that Theodore brought me inside.
The inside of the castle was very beautiful! It was extravagant, but at the same time had a warm, tranquil air about it. "I... I decorated this castle to your liking since I heard you don't like flashy things, but you never came." I felt myself tearing up at the thought of those letters.
The letters I never received...
Theodore took us to one of the rooms then closed the door behind us. "Please Noah... I am really not angry. I will forgive you no matter what the reason is, so please tell me... Tell me why you never responded to any of my letters?"
"I-I'm sorry, I-I really didn't get any l-letters f-from you... I-I w-was actually w-waiting for them... D-Don't be m-mad me..." Theodore was silent then he sighed.
"It's okay, I was just really disappointed when I went to our castle and you weren't there. I believe you, maybe my letters got lost or something." I started sobbing like a child. Theodore scoop me up then petted my back. "At least your reason wasn't that you never bothered to read them." Theodore kissed me as though to silence me. "By the way, this is our bedroom so rest up, it's been a long journey."
"Okay..." He placed me on the bed then tucked me in.
"Rest up honey."
