Weeping Willow

You finally made it!

You finally made it!

Mar 05, 2022

Five years have gone by, and Sora is still not used to Hiro. She would sneak past him and go meet up with Catelyn, or she would sneak around the house, looking for some food to make herself instead of having Hiro make something for her.
Sora didn't like Hiro. He was not rude but because he didn't talk a lot to her and was barely around.
Today, Sora needs to meet Catelyn at the park again. She sneaks out of her room and peaks around the corner to check if Hiro was home. He wasn't.
Sora steps down into the living room and grabs a sticky note that's on the coffee table. She then rights down a note.
'Going to the park to meet my friend  ~Sora.'
She then picked up the sticky note and headed over to the front door. Sora opened the door, stuck the letter in the middle of the door, and then headed over to the park.
Instead of Sora hopping on a bike or riding a skateboard, she ran because a mile for school was coming up, so she needed to practice running.
If you don't know what a mile is, you grew up in a better school; the mile is where the P.E. teachers made you run a mile for the state, and running a whole mile was the teachers' main goal for the kids is to do.
Sora began to pace herself before instantly giving up and walking the whole way.

Half of the day was gone, and Sora finally made it to the park. She expected Catelyn to be gone by now, but Catelyn was sitting on the bench, still waiting.
She stuck to her word when she said she was loyal! Sora thought, running up to her.
"Oh, you finally made it! I was about to leave," Catelyn said, scooting over for Sora to sit down.
"I thought about running over here instead of riding my bike," Sora replied, sitting down next to Catelyn.
"Nice training! But..." Catelyn said before leaning closer to Sora and asking, "Did you give up?"
"No!" Sora lied before giving in and mumbling, "Yeah."
"I knew it!" Catelyn yelled.
Catelyn wasn't going to do the mile since she was an outstanding runner. So she wasn't training since she didn't need it, but that didn't mean she wasn't ever going to run again! She loves running, which is why Sora met up with her; she wanted tips on how to run a mile and not get a lousy score on it.
"So, Cat-"
"Don't call me 'Cat'!" Catelyn yelled, pointing at Sora.
Now she knows what it's like to be called something you disagreed on! Sora thought while trying to remember the time when Catelyn called her sky. Sora hated the name sky since it reminded her of a bully at school named Skyla.
"Sorry! So, Catelyn, can you give me tips on how to run the mile?" Sora said, jolting up from her seat as if Catelyn would teach her physically.
"I will tell you, not show you!" Catelyn said, pulling Sora back down onto the bench. "First, the best way of running and not getting tired is running for at least fifteen seconds then resting for the maximum of twenty seconds."
"And this will help me go faster; how?" Sora asked, a little confused.
"This will help you keep your energy up!" Catelyn answered, then chuckled and continued, "My little brother would never be able to do the mile." She then leaned back and crossed her arms as she looked up at the sky.
"How did this turn from running to your little brother?!" Sora asked.
"You should see him again. How about tomorrow?"
"Sure! But first, tell me more hints about the mile."
Catelyn leaned forward and started giving hints to Sora, telling her how to run correctly.

Hours go by, and Catelyn has to leave. They both exchange hugs then they both run home.
Sora tried experimenting with the hints Catelyn gave her. Sora ran for fifteen seconds, rested for twenty seconds, then repeated.
A couple of minutes later, Sora gives up on the hint, wanting to save the tips for later.

It's almost dark outside, and Sora finally gets home.
The note on the door is gone, indicating that Hiro was home. Sora quietly opened the door and snuck in, past the living room where Hiro was ready a book in. She opened her door and quietly stepped in, and shut the door.
Sora finds her notepad from five years ago. Over that time, Sora has gotten much better at drawing. She opens it and flips to the middle of the notepad.
Sora is stopped at one of the pages that contain a drawing of her mother, Cho, and her father, Mike.
"Miss you two," Sora said.
Five years ago, when Sora was dropped off at Hiro's house, Cho never returned. She was in a fatal car crash and didn't survive, while Mike was found dead on the floor at a party. Most say he got sober because of Cho taking Sora to a new home, so he gave himself an overdose.
Sora flipped to the next page, holding back her tears. She then wrote down all the hints Catelyn gave her about the mile.
Once done, Sora closed the book and flopped down on the bed. She closed her eyes and began to fall asleep while imagining her parents.
