I smiled at the phone after hanging up with Conner for the second time since he had put me in this position. The omega stepped hesitantly into the office.
“Was that Conner?” he asked softly.
I smirked. “We really need to fix that terrible habit you’ve picked up. You need to address the Alpha with the respect his title is owed. You are so far beneath them to be using their names so casually.”
His cringe gave me a sick sense of satisfaction.
“Alpha Conner has asked that you remain out of the nursery from now on. He doesn’t want you to put stress on the baby.” At his confused look, I rolled my eyes. "I informed him of your condition the last time I spoke with him." I blatantly lied.
Skye’s eyes dropped to the ground, but he nodded silently. “I understand.”
I chuckled. “I’m not sure you really do, but you will soon. The baby is the only thing important right now.” I stalked over to him and took pleasure in the way his body tensed. “I’m so sorry to tell you, but they don’t want to talk to you right now. They have much more pressing matters to deal with.”
The light dimming in his eyes made me smile wider. I patted him on the head. “Don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll want to talk to you soon.”
It was the truth, I just wouldn’t be letting them talk. The way the trip kept being extended made me think that Skye would give birth before they returned and I would claim him before the alpha could do anything.
“Why don’t you run take a nap? You look exhausted.” I pushed him out the door. “I’ll try to have someone get you when the next call comes in.” I lied.
He didn’t argue as he slowly wandered down the hall, one hand resting lightly against his stomach.
I let my smile fall and pulled out my phone again. “Carl,” I snapped as soon as my partner answered, “come to my office.”
The sniveling wolf slipped into the office with an oily smirk on his face. “Are we on our way to what we want?” He asked.
I growled at him. “Keep it down! I’m still trying to figure out who the most loyal wolves are. If anything like the attempt to smuggle the omega out happens again, blood will be spilt. I don’t want to take such drastic measures with the other pack members until I absolutely have to.” I stalked to the window and glared out. “Twelve in the cells and taking away their phones should be enough to keep the others in line for now.”
Carl snorted. “I still think we should just drug them and make our own break with the omega. We can drop the brat off when the omega delivers and none would be the wiser.”
I spun around and slammed my hands on the desk. “You know why I don’t want to do that. I want Conner,” I sneered at his name, “to see what happens when you leave an omega unprotected. He needs to know that not all the wolves here will just blindly follow his rules. He will see the consequences of his attempt at changing pack ways.”
Carl smirked. “He does need to be knocked down a peg or two.” He concurred.
“Now, I am slowly breaking down Skye’s defenses, but I need you to make certain the other wolves stay away from him. Should any attempt to step in on my dealings with him, you are to do whatever to keep them from making the same mistake twice.” I leaned against the desk and stared the other wolf down. “I am trusting you to see to this. We can’t allow the omega to think he has any allies here.”
Carl licked his lips. “It would be my pleasure.”
“Good.” I let a self satisfied smile cross my lips. “We are well on the way to proving our point to Alpha Conner and his vampire mate. He needs to be reminded of pack rules.”
